During my recent visit to Bilgin I was inspired to start thinking about buying a boat for myself. The research that I made took an unusual direction and led me to the amazing Metal Shark Boats military manufacturer...who can also build yachts!

Amazing boats. They are located about 40 miles from my house. I have loaded a few of their small boats on 18 wheelers for shipment.. I was loading 2 boats up when they were building the catamaran. I still have pictures of the build.

You’re finally getting it David!!! The reason Nick is so successful is that he gives the viewer a complete tour without fancy shots and angles which distort the results.
I notice also that Dennison is upping their game with more interesting and complete videos. (No doubt they learned a thing or two from Nick when they brought him to Miami 😉)
Hopefully you can simplify the video aspect of your channel and get more into the “meat” which would be showing your clients the most complete tours in a reasonable time frame.
    Cheers! 😉👍🏻😁

Now that’s my kind of boat. I would have so much fun with that 40ft hull. As a former member of the RNLI and as a Royal Navy veteran, I love boats that are designed to take on some gnarly weather conditions and the 40ft model looks perfect for rough weather cruising. If you ever need a crew member to go out with you in some big seas then give me a shout 😉

The yacht La Sultana (which is for sale at the moment) is a conversation from an old soviet Ferry. It's a beautiful superyacht from the exterior, but the interior is something else the wood carvings are amazing and the pool is just perfect use of an old feature

There's is a father son boatbuilder, and that boat with the nice full hull may be built somewhere near London on the Thames, they build a very very good quality thick steel full displacement hull for fisherman. Just though of it, Otterham creek boatyard by Alan and Nathan Diddams. They built one recently called the Thamesmore out of Gravesend. It's 32ft and 12 ft wide with a I think 170 hp beta marine. That would be a great little trawler that is seaworthy and at 7 knots most likely sips fuel and would certainly make a nice single room couples boat, use your imagination. Yes a very pretty hull.

Aah David. You've got the bug. Binge watching boats for sale ( Aquaholic) and others. It's addictive which is why you have so many viewers, more to come. The freedom of being in your own boat is incredible. The only cure for the bug is to buy one. As Nick would say, it doesn't matter how big or cheap the boat is, you're on the same water with the same fantastic views as a superyacht. Another great video thanks 😊

  • @jacquesmertens3369

Nick's channel is popular because Nick has a nice thing to say about just any yacht, even when it isn't worth buying.
If you take everything with a grain of salt and form your own opinion it's still useful information though.
As soon as I have the money to buy my own yacht, it would be one with an aluminium or steel hull, just like that military yacht.
But before doing so I would carefully check the availability of spare parts. If the army gets rid of something, it could indicate that they can no longer service it.

I actually looked them up a few months ago.
Hull designs for the mono hulls are great for areas where speed in moderate to fairly heavy sea states is important. But not super efficient hulls for cruising. Quick jaunts where comfort is less important than time like for fishing off shore or getting to a meeting is the goal is where they shine.
Have you looked at proper trawler designs or semi planning types? 10 knots in comfort and at a tiny fraction of the cost in fuel is not a bad thing. But boy those Metal Shark designs are something to look at!

As a former Army grunt, I like the conversion of military ships to yacht. I have a question on the _Chartering_ aspect we haven't dealt with much recently: Is there an active market for chartering yachts in the Pacific area? Or is yacht chartering mainly in the Mediterranean and Bahamas?

    • @opcn18
      @opcn18 2 роки тому

There are yachts for charter in many places, but the bulk of the super yacht charter scene shifts between the caribbean and the med based on season. No matter where you are there are more clients who can afford to charter a 55 foot boat than a 55 meter boat, so even if you're in seattle or hawaii or New Zealand it'll be easier to find customers to keep your boat full and keep the books in the black if it's a reasonably small vessel.

If you are interested in more "rugged" boats, there's Finland's Kewatec shipyard. Their boats are aluminum built, and their 1450 Offshore and Squid 1250 are exactly that: patrol boat hulls converted into little adventure yachts. You can even order them in naval gray paint. Had the same dream, Googled Navy ships for sale, found Type 24 Destroyer. Keep helicopter hanger and landing deck, rip off the rest of the upper deck, replace with aluminium structure and large windows, fall asleep thinking how do I get it to Turkey or can a UK yard do the work.(Dreamer Ex.Upper Gornal).

    Is 40 defiant's hull aluminum?
Yes it is, missed it on the video
By the way, a question for you David, what do you think about non painted aluminum hulls? Both for looks and praticality wise. Thanks

Yes - it's an aluminium hull and superstructure. I'm not sure about the practicalities of a non painted aluminium hull to be honest, but if it is possible it would be my preferred choice.

@@Yachtsforsaleblog Though leaving raw aluminum exposed would be ill advised (I have background in aviation maintenance related to the topic), there are a variety of marine-grade clear sealants that may preserve the look you're going for while also preventing corrosion.

I always thought just how great it would be to turn my ship, The USS BADGER FF 1071 into a super yacht.
My ship had a crew of over 200 but I really doubt that it would need even 50 to run it as a super yacht!!
It already has a helicopter and the hanger.
I just believe why scrap these Navy ships when they could be awesome yachts?

Hello! Did you ever get more information on the yacht tender. I just discovered this model two days ago and have been looking for more information on it. I emailed them today for more information but of course with it being the holidays I don’t expect a quick reply. But yes I was thinking about if it’s possible to live on it full time.

@@Yachtsforsaleblog David! You and me have very similar interests when it comes to the personal boat we would buy ourselves. Have you heard of “Van Der Heijden Yachts” they make a “Hayden Flybridge” that you might find interesting. But also could you find out about them. There is only a few videos on UA-cam about them. Thank You Very Much!

If you want to buy an ex military/ Police boat, wait for the hurricanes to hit the Caribbean. They were ten a penny in 2017/18 after Irma and Maria hit.

There is a certain Super Yacht Captain who may have some extra time on his hands. He may be available to teach captaining skills.
