Have owned the Excite 1.5 for 6 months and this review is nothing but "spot on". The underpowered engine is more than made up by the spec, look and drive. It's a joy to drive. Perfect, honest and accurate review on all counts. Well done!
The car looks dull
Is the engine bad?
@@divinesalon339 it's underpowered, but I wouldn't declare 'bad', and to be honest, I'm driving normally with good fuel consumption. Best I've had is 62.8mpg but I live in a very flat area. I think if you have steep inclines/declines the engine would piss you off in terms of power. I've done 21K from new and engine has remained sound so far. It ain't going to set the road alight but fine for sensible driving.
@@leeamos187 thanks ive just purchased this literally now. I dont speed or drive fast. It will be used as a family car 2 children. Mainly going to and from work and school run. And somtimes visiting family wanted somthing that wont cost alot on fuel or insurnce but that still looks nice without paying a fortune.

All modern cars are dull metal boxes, unfortunately don't think there's an exciting or attractive car on the road today.
It’s kind of refreshing to watch a female car reviewer. Nice review! Shoutout from a MG ZS owner in the Philippines.
Thank you so much for watching 😁
are you for real? They are mostly women these days.
It is nice to see MG still going, looks very similar to the Ford Eco sport, love the MG underdog status though, love the massive V8 they put in the original ZT 👍. Great review Tish 😉
This isn't the same MG as before. The new ones are actually chinese cars. When MG Rover went int administration the brand and assets were sold to a chinese company that since merged with SAIC.
It's sad now. Its mainly unreliable Chinese crap
for sure for those bot of anti-china with agenda@@jamesh5717
@@jamesh5717 …zzzzz
@@jamesh5717 Only it isn't crap....you want crap? Then try a British Leyland Morris marina or a Austin allegro...I should know, I had both. Now they were crap and VERY unreliable (and that's why British Made cars by a British owned company (BL) failed and now is consigned to the history Books!)_
Had a 2021 1.0T Auto Exclusive for a couple of months, for under 20K new (discount found) its astonishing. Even the fully automatic electronic handbrake works perfectly. It drive really well and is perky, super spacious, comfortable and extremely practical. Also no one has a clue what it is! the front is a bit of a homage to Jag SUV's to the point its hard to tell at a distance. The Only annoyance is the auto stop, not good when sat at a junction with an auto gearbox, if your trying to get away quickly. We have got in the habit of switching it off when getting in but I wish I could find a way to disable it for good.
Not too worried by the NCAP, unfortunately it was tested at the point NCAP upped the game and demanded lots of electronic aids as standard, most of have survived many years with just ESC and anti-lock brakes. It does have blind spot and cross traffic radar now and the car feels plenty sturdy.
I got is with expection of trouble , same 1,0t ,then it is found too good for urban , best value of my 30+ years of auto-experiece
Great video Tish.....Love the Manual handbrake.!!
Definitely less to go wrong.....
Those 360 cams blow my mind 😮
You are a very good reviewer and easy on the eyes. Honest and unbiased.
thank you
Oh my god your a bad creep you
The review excellent, the reviewer even better.
I prefer the manual hand brake but that's just what I'm used to and I don't get how the motor is getting bad reviews as I love my car. It's a great all rounder.
Manual handbrake all day long.
💯 manual hand break! Getting our MG next week and can’t wait
I had no idea about the existence of this vehicle. You will definitely not meet such in the Czech Republic. Thanks for raising awareness, smarter every day.
Why would the Czechs buy Chinese junk when they can buy Skoda?
@@leeenfield3404 True, I rather pointed out the uniqueness of such a car in our market. After 12 years of driving Skoda Group vehicles, I solved it by buying a Suzuki friend. it wanted a change
@@ludoweet Suzuki is a good car.... any car that is VAG is likely to be well designed and made👍
Truly annoying when people only mention 'apple' car-play, when there are far more Android users on the planet. Other than that, great review
Just test drove in Thailand
You get a 8 speed auto and full size electric roof and air-conditioning as standard also electric seats as standard at a smaller price 😆 🤣
They are made here now as well as China great review Thanks
wow even more for your money!
Who needs dual climate control anyway ? ... You're sitting 12 inches away from the person next to you !!
I have genuinely always thought this!
You obviously don't have a menopausal wife...lol! Believe me, they're a Godsend.
Thanks for the Video. I still like the the fact that I can use my Hand Brake. I like the control and there is less technology to go wrong.
The price of this car is amazing. So many features packed in at such low price.
It really is no surprise their sales have doubled!
@@AutoSocialUK yeah, good to see UK and Chinese collaboration working out for the best :)
what about the rust issue with the car? have you had a chance to look at the subframe especially at the rear of the vehicle and check? would like to know
Much prefer a manual handbrake. For the Electrical handbrake you don't need to check it is sufficiently engaged. However a manual handbrake is larger and easier to locate and grab quickly in an emergency. It is not dependent on a functioning electrical circuit to operate. It won't suffer the problem of failing to release the wheels when you want to drive up a hill in wintry conditions when wheels might be slipping, and won't automatically release if you happen to release the clutch by accident. A manual brake lever gives the driver greater control. No complaints for the manual handbrake on this car, apart from making sure it is sufficiently engaged when parked.
Steering is very light. Great for ease of urban driving, manoeuvring and parking, but I might get a little nervous long distance driving on the motorway- not much feedback to the driver, you hardly feel the wheels bumping the kerb.
Reasonable leg room, good ride height, I found the visibility not an issue.
Suspension very much in the German style- quite hard when compared to French cars like Renault or Citroen
Power, feels decidedly under powered if the car is fully loaded with family etc and you are trying to overtake on a dual carriageway or motorway.
Verdict; a fun run about, though you might want to be more cautious when you overtake others. Good boot and loading space. Quite impressive. And no complaints from passengers.
Would I buy one: Well just might!
Personally it kind of feels brilliant ditching automatic climate control option and a separate display for climate
Cause it's either the coldest side or warmest or just turned off
Cost effective too
If you live in Indonesia you can get electric parking brake with auto hold and start stop engine button from entry level Activate, mid level Ignite and flagship Magnify with panoramic sunroof
The electric version on their website appears to still have the old dashboard (instead of this new 2021 facelift version) and as such still includes physical temperature dials instead of touchscreen - which is also smaller. I suspect this will change in time also? Great review btw! Your videos are getting really polished now and a real pleasure to watch! Keep up the great work! 👍👍
You're a very refreshing presenter, ma'am. With all do respect, you're much easier on the eyes than most of your male counterparts. Well done and thank you for your professionalism!

Buying an MG supports the Communist Party of China. People that care about their own economy buy products from people/companies/brands that are designed and/or developed and/or researched in their own country or ally country. The people that work for those local companies, in free democracies, then buy other products developed in their own country or ally country and that keeps their families and friends in work and making money. Stupid people buy direct from Chinese brands and send every single penny out of their country and destroy their own economy and eventually their entire free society because they are cretins and/or greedy and/or want things they can't afford, and rather than wait and save. They are happy to screw over their entire economy in the pursuit of self-gratification, selfishness, and ego. Buying CCP owned brands and products fuels Chinese R&D and weakens free economies. Your children and your children's children will suffer as a result of your choices. This is not hyperbole, it is fact.
@@craigo2656 my child is a communist !!!!!
This is weird to look at since I have had an Electric version of this car for the past 6 months. The great thing about electric is that most get the engine right, we can talk about range and battery all day long, but the electric engine is undeniable braking down less often than a ICE engine. If I had gone fossil again I would have bought used, not first generation and mostly Skoda or Toyota. The MG is a great value electric car and most likely a great value as a ICE car too, I'm just sceptical to the engine. The ICE engines are an engineering marvel, but that's also the problem with them even if they are new. I remember with horror my fathers brand new 98 Passat, in and out the workshop all the time. The newer cars where better, but usually there was always something - My MG EV - one time - needed a software update. There have been one thing though. It have sometimes not been able to turn off, lucky there is ctrl+alt+delete function: Brake+speed+startbutton - it resets and everything is fine.
I've owned it now 4 months and I. Don't think the engine is underpowered if it does 0-60 in 10.6 sec then it's not slow . I think it's a. Good car for the money as for duel zone climate control u don't need it. I can pick a few faults on the range rover that costs like £70,000 as I used to have one. Now I have two of these they are fantastic. And the 7 year warranty is something that only kia gives u.
Love the review
great car for 18k
you have to pay that for
a used one. I'm old fashioned
I like a manual hand brake.
Good review. You can get the ZS with the 1.0T and a 6 speed manual as well. The engines are definitely a weak spot for this car. Shame they could not put a turbo on the 1.5 as with the HS. Also, the car needs climate control.
Great video, Tish! Tbh I thought MG didn't exist anymore, and after looking into it, my theory about being bought out by a Chinese company was correct. It definitely seems like a good cheap car, but the lack of a rear armrest, no auto climate, only forwards and backwards passenger seat, and finally, the 5 speed transmission, clearly show that there was a lot of cost-cutting in this vehicle. Despite that, the interior quality seems to be pretty good, and it certainly isn't bad looking on the outside, either. And that acceleration run... good god is that thing slow.
Tish with the car knowledge and great review. Total snack I must add 😋
Another brilliant review again! Well Done! 👏🏻

Thank you so much Rob, that is very kind!
I would recommend avoid the manual, since it only has 5 speeds.
And plus, I prefer the electronic handbrake, but not with the manual gearbox.
I edited the comment.
I would agree. Although if you only want to drive manual it’s ok as long as you don’t live anywhere Eugh too high inclines.
The 1.5 is great in town, slow on motorways, it needs a good bit or right foot. The car has some minor niggles I would design out. To be frank for the price they are excellent. Look on the roads and you see how well they are selling. I went into town the other day and saw 3 in a minute then add mine, 4. My dealer says they sell like hot cakes. His issue is that MG are opening dealerships at pace this Will affect his sales.
Needs tinted heat reflecting glass. Leather seats make you sweat on longer drives. Steering is pretty heavy. Engine is a bit weak
Yes. I agree with all these points
I love your review and personal insights, very informative and incredible useful pointers to consider, appreciate it! I've decided to go ahead and purchase this vehicle after watching this review. God Bless you and have a great day!
Thank you Kenneth, I appreciate the support. enjoy your new car!
Thought about looking at the 1.5 but living in the Yorkshire Dales, as well as traveling to Manchester frequently I don't think I'll bother now after watching this review 😕
i watched and enjoyed yoir video. Warmest regards from Dean in Brisbane Australia.
i saw one of these earlier and thought it was the electric one. that blue looks really nice.
The metallic blue car with " Tania 1 " registration plate that I kept coming across driving around today is very similiar to this one ( T ) if you are curious babe. 😘❤
Great information
You made the car so much more interesting well done Tiger
If the 1.5 was a a 6 speed and turbo charged I'd buy one tomorrow.
I much prefer the manual handbrake 😊
Can’t believe it’s got a 360 camera , electric seats and digital display but no keyless start.
Keep up the good work 👍
Thank you Jack and thanks for watching!
Mg zs looks very nice car I like manual handbrake like your new car reviews thanks👍❤️
good test ...i like this car , it's a "simply" four cylinders ( rare in the actualy cars productions ) ..no turbo better for fiability ..;even , if it take a little more time for climb a hill ...lol :)
MGs have always been underpowered!
Surly depends on the incline of the hill
Brilliant review
Thank you for watching
Always a sucker for a pretty girl and what an excellent presenter and fabulous review too. As for the car, I like it as it offers good practicallity and plenty of features and equipment for very reasonable money and I love the instrument display. Great job, thank you. I detest Auto Handbrakes, they just confuse me to be honest.
Thank you so much for watching Jeff!
@@AutoSocialUK Your very welcome!
Great video. Could you do one for the 2022 version?
The MG ZS is launched in India as MG Astor. This review was useful
What will be the fuel efficiency of 1.5 ltr engine
@@razerrazer8242 According to the UK Brochure it should be between 14-15kmpl. The car is heavier than then Seltos/Creta) and Taigun/Kushaq if you are comparing to its competition in India.
The engine has similar power and torque figures as the 1.5 engine of Kia/Hyundai
My wife has a 2019 Mazda with an automatic handbrake and I hate it. I inevitably forget which way to press the button, or it doesn't disengage properly.
Thinking about buying one of these
The lack of tinted windows, rear privacy glass and adjustable reach on the steering column are a very unusual and spoil a great vehicle
Yes unfortunate otherwise it really would have ticked most boxes. However, i think lots of people are still willing to put up with those small issues
Rear tints are easily added cheaply
No mention of Android Auto, but I assume it's decent enough.
Honest Review!
Love from India!🙏🏻❤️
Thank you for watching
@@AutoSocialUK Actually, it made me think about this vehicle and compare it with Taigun and Tiguan.
automatic handbrakes always fail. Always.
And then your car is stuck, can't drive it anywhere, and you need specialist equipment to get the car towed to the garage, because the handbrake is stuck on, so they need to put it on skates, which isn't covered by breakdown insurances (yes, even AA)..
Manual handbrake for the win.
India receives a special 1.3 turbo with 140HP and 220NM
And Level 2 autonomous driving
Its my first time seeing someone complains because the height of seat is too high. I mean should we as well put proper expectations? This isnt a race car, its a family small SUV? People that will have interest in this are people that would like their seat up high? Isnt it?
Hi, my job is to share my genuine feelings about cars with other people. I have driven tons of SUVs and found that seating position for my personal preference was a lot higher than in most SUVs. Just sharing my thoughts as I have them 👍🏼
Am thinking of picking up an Excite model with a great offer on at my local garage.
Not sure whether I want the 1.5 petrol version though 🤨
All I would say is go and test drive to see what you think. Is the hybrid out of your price reach?
@@AutoSocialUK there's a great deal of £185 deposit, £185 per month, I don't really want to spend more
above anything else would like to see the anti perforation treatment or anti-rust application to the underside. big issue with these cars and sadly completely put me off buying one. then again, cheap as chips compared to everyone else you get what you are given with the chinese.
Auto hand brake take getting used to but manual are simple no learn curve between various set ups
I personally think this will suit you

@@nataliecahoon4908 i don't drive it often if I'm honest. When I have driven it I've found it to be a nice ride, the engine is very quiet (forgot to go up into 5th on the motorway for a bit without realising ☺️😂). It does take a while to pick up some speed, especially up hill! Your vision isn't great out the back/side windows but the cameras are pretty good to assist with this. I use Android auto and my wife uses apple car play and both work fine on the lovely big display. Overall we are pretty pleased with it 😃😎👍 hope this waffle helps ☺️
@@williamwood395 your doubts are right 😂 still like the car though. Lol
Good work tish. I still haven't got used to the electric handbrake but its good to see a manual. I would have thought that mg would have made the 1.5 engine more desirable than the 1.0ltr. They are offering fantastic value for money and a great warranty.
I think an electric handbrake is just another step into lazy driving isn’t it. I actually saw dash cam footage of a ZS rolling down a hill.... wonder if that one had manual or hybrid
@@AutoSocialUK obviously someone used to brake hold and an electric handbrake 😂 forgot it was a manual handbrake. Yeah along with auto wipers, bit lazy too.
I enjoyed watching the Video Review. One ☝️ of my favourite SUVs 🚙
It definitely is one of the more appealing isn’t it!
Nice amount of space in this car , I'd probably go for the 1.0 turbo though.
Elic hand brake dear to fix if goes, manual better.
For those of you who bought an MG ZS in the philippines be our guest for buying it in the ph
100% Chinese. The Chinese bought the rights to MG Rover and paid Ricardo to set up a company to transfer and train the Chinese. After moving to the former MG site in Longbridge, after the intellectual property transfer and training was completed, the Chinese closed Longbridge and laid everyone off. These cars are not in any way British or European. And tempting thought the price and warranty is, the residual values will be low, and a warranty is only as good and honest as the company who honour it.
www.mgcc.co.uk/saic-design-opens-advanced-design-studio-central-london/ Designed in the UK though. I also think there is a design studio in Birmingham.
@@danielparrott8339 That's industrial Design. A few art school types drawing pictures. I was. talking proper Engineering... mechanical/electrical and electronic design.
I really like these. They look good inside and out.
As a driver, I have only driven manual five speed cars with a manual handbrake, and being honest, I would prefer a manual handbrake.
It is likely that my next car will be six speed, so that would take a bit of getting used to. Chances are, it will have a manual handbrake too.
You’ll be surprised how quickly you get used to 6 gears - you’ll probably keep forgetting to use the 6th, until you realise it’s noisy on a motorway 😅
What's your worry with an electric handbrake? Failure? The power keeps the brake off. In event of failure the brake engages, like a truck's air-braking system.
I go to sleep when the word aggressive is used 🤣
Love the review. But I wouldn't consider purchasing this china made MG. At least not anytime soon given their failed history of being known for being notoriously unreliable. They even went bankrupt years ago because of it. Here in our country (philippines) where some MG's are already starting to fall apart after only 1-2yrs of use, parts replacement take 9-14mos because none are available. Their warranty might be 7yrs but you'll spend most of it waiting for parts that may or may not become available. The seat foam becomes deformed w/n 1yr, the engine mount rattles w/n a yr, and headlight moisture is a problem at yes...w/n 1yr. Worst part is MG doesn't want to fix the headlight issue because according to them "it's normal". Owning one is going to be a huge headache.
Failed history and bankruptcy was from a totally different parent company. SAIC has purchased the name of MG after the failure so it is now a totally different company and products. I’m not sure about falling apart but delay in parts there is some truth but not 9-14 months. Condensation in headlights are indeed normal, have a quick google. Each country is run differently and the handling agent for MG is also different. MG UK and MG Europe is a separate handling company.
I prefer everything manual gear box handbrake windows everything!
Great review, just what I was looking for. One question regarding the seats, how much of an issue is sweating? Should I let this put me of buying one as I have a 40 min journey every day
Do not buy one of them MG ZS I've had a problem with the head gasket blown only got 14 thousand on the clock it's been in the MG Garage for 5 weeks and they are and still tried to say it's our fault my wife only use it for work she is a nurse we have been treated really badly I should have found it up today they have not Tuesday 10th of May
If you want a nice ride you need to go Citroen or Lexus. I drove an MG yesterday and yes it was a bit harsh over the bumps 👎
Naturally aspirated engines you don’t change gear going uphil you thrash the gear your in .
I don’t think much would have helped me get up that hill any quicker 😂

I heard these rust on the seams and welds
The metal was treated with anti corrosion after being welded and in some case around the boot areas not at all .
Thus a couple year old car showing early signs of rot underneath
@@mark-1rc502 yes I have seen the rumours going around online. Although lots of happy owners without the issues too. Still a worry
MG need to dump that 1.5 engine, better off going all electric than use that engine.
Nice review by the way
Great review
This car is the worst I have ever driven. What a massive mistake this turned out to be. Spends more time in the garage than on the road. 3 months after ownership had a new gearbox. A month later was a engine sensor.
The screen is very poor with lag and constantly crashing... even after several updates. The car is under powered and is dangerous due to the will it / won't it pull off at junctions. Very unpredictable!
The metal the car is made out of is very thin and weak. Year old and every sil when you open the door is dented. Really wanted this car to be good but it's light years away from being a good car.
great video, Love the ZS and do prefer a manual handbrake .
Interesting to hear everyones opinions!
beautiful county. i like there very much. also the car is very nice.
It is very pretty this time of year ☺️
What annoys me the most about these cars is that whenever i hit the search button for the original ZS, I get spammed by this.
I’m sorry, I might live in the past but I do not associate MG with Chinese-made electric SUVs. Sad to see what happened to such a glorious brand.
I see they updated it already new headlights and infotainment look a lot better even though the car isn't that old, As you pointed out tish they are still far behind on the gearbox and engines, good review.
Yes and added the centre armrest and blind spot monitoring, all good little upgrades for an already pretty good car!
I have seen an acceleration test on the mgzs 1.5. It can't even reach 160km/h after flooring it. Even the Mitsubishi mirage 3 cylinder naturally aspirated engine is faster than this. The suzuki jinny is also faster than this. I think it's a waste to money to buy a car that struggles to climb a hill
For those who complain ZS being underpowered, get a ZS EV! That one can even startle a Subbie STI, Evo X and a Tesla!
Ale Pani śliczna jest 🤗❤️
