Jeff Woods is probably the best rock and roll Journalist around, people in the biz actually want to be interviewed by Jeff , he asks question that actually pertain to the Musician , the man knows his Rock, makes me proud to be a Vancouverite !
Best Hagar interview I have ever seen. Love the fact that Mr. Woods actually read Sammy's book in detail, asking as many questions about Sammy's childhood as he did about the VH blowup. And as always - Sammy answered all questions with a ton of detail, humor and heart.
I just finished the book, picked it up at my library, and was blown away by it. I could not put the dam thing down! I never really knew much about Sammy Hagar, never really followed him, and like many lost interest when Roth left VH. However, this book has made me respect this guy for what he's been through and he's just a good soul through and through. Put it this way, nobody can call themselves a Sammy Hagar fan without reading this book.
Thanks very much for this Jeff. I've been a fan of Sammy's since he joined Van Halen and although I have their entire collection, I think they were a better band with him as a vocalist. I am a singer/songwriter myself and I'm so tired of the crap that is presented when it comes to "interviewing" rock stars. This was a pleasure to watch from start to finish because it is disarming yet informative. I love his perspective. Passion must come first. Clearly, you share that outlook. Great job.
Thank you for sharing this interview--for free, to boot. Sammy, you answered so many questions I had about your perspectives so many topics, I really appreciate you doing this. We share a lot of the same perspectives, believe it or not. I got a new book to get, too! I hope I can meet you for a while someday; we'll definitely have to do a little jamming. Never lose sight of the one who's blessed you in this life, it affects not only you but the people you influence. You're an avenue for blessing others because you yourself have been blessed, and I just want you to know it's reached me and inspired me.
Sam I am honored to get to that insight to your life and career.. brother I feel your spirit, your an inspiration to those of us that have like minded ideas
That was the Best Sammy Hagar Interview EVER, what a great Guy, I love all Van Halen, But Sammy is just so well rounded and talented, I do not know why David Lee Roth fans always have to insult the Man, he took Van Halen to a whole new Level, well Done Sammy.
Sammy is so cool. I’m going back listening to 5150, OU812 etc... check out “Feels So Good” off 812. A hidden gem. I could listen to Sammy all day. God Bless bro you’re loved!
Very Good interview. Jeff Woods did a Great job: knowledgeable, definitely actually read the book, a big fan of Sammy's but didn't slobber all over him and let him talk without interjecting. Then there's Sammy. Damn, I love that guy! And for all you haters and fuck Van Hagar minions, Sammy can STILL sing. Not only his hits, but David Lee Roth's hits, too. Good interview!
Van Halen had more #1 albums with Hagar, and more #1 singles with Hagar. Entertainer or not, Van Halen was at its best with Sammy! He took Van Halen to the next level. Its a shame that Eddie had to go thru his drunken stooper
the book is AWESOME.....grew up hearing him on the radio and records when I was a kid...I had older sisters...never got into him....now at age 45 I'm a huge fan......he lived the life and was a good guy...IS a good guy!
First saw Sammy on his "3 lock box" tour. They tore it up. The guy put everything he had into that show, like it was his last. Great band, super tight. Sammy scaled the light rigging and sang amongst the stage lights above the band. Outdoor venue's are great for that. He still has that energy though, minus the climbing.
He's obviously a good guy. I don't care for his music but so what? That's all subjective, but he's a good man. I like hearing about building apartments and how he'd partner with family members, let them run the units, and take care of people regarding finances without giving handouts. Caring and class.
Sammy strikes me as the ultimate example of what a positive attitude can do. He has his beliefs and his personal views about life but I think deep down it is just a positive can-do attitude. How many rock stars do we know that are so honestly charitable? Look up his history of charity and philanthropy and you will see what I mean. He is driven by far more than personal success.
Are you serious? I dig him too but one thing to consider, without the 'entertainer', there would've been no Van Halen for Sammy to join. The 'entertainer' was a key part of a band that defined an era while influencing popular music. Sammy was around during the time that the 'entertainer' made VH1, VH2, Fair Warning, Women and Children First', 1984 along with the other albums but he certainly didn't define an era or influence a generation like the 'entertainer' did.
I'm a huge VH fan, but Sammy seems more forthcoming & engaging than both of the VH brothers combined. No disrespect to the brothers. Sammy actually seems to enjoy doing interviews. Up until this vid, I never thought Sammy was as cool as he is.
Samy Hagar was so much better for Van Halen than the entertainer was. Hagar took Van Halen to a higher musical level. Look at Van Halen now back with the entertainer. It's a sad thing to see. Very sad.
The interviewer has that classic cheese late night fm sound. Like a simpsons character. Gotta say Sammy everything you touch does well and that’s not by chance. You believe in what your doing and the good karma is reflected in it. CHEERS!!
Omg Sammy I SO agree and yet I’m a fan. ? 🤣 I stopped meeting celebrities because it was unfair. People don’t realize they’re people. They have lives. Had I had this many people up my ass I’d have the celebrity life. Lodie
IMO, even though it's probably all true, Sammy shouldn't have got as detailed and graphic about how bad off Eddy was then(esp since Ed is famous). He could've just explained how Ed was bad off at that time and battling drug and alcohol addiction and that it made him irrational and very hard to deal with, etc. He didn't to have take it to the point of embarrassing Ed so badly even if it's all true. And esp if he had any hopes of them being friends again. Personally, I've been in many bands and if another member was acting like Ed was then and it broke up our band, I'd still try to be discrete and I def would never go for the jugular. Sammy could've got the same point across without completely "outing" Ed. Most of that should've stayed behind closed doors. Again, esp if he had any hopes of one day repairing their friendship. They could've discussed all that between them when they met again. The truth is, most of that was none of our business.
to barret707... i am not going to allow u to denounce GOD.. wheather u like it or not, believe it or not, GOD is still GOD, and very much alive and well, here and now! the issue is, do u want to accept GOD and get to know him better, and let him connect with u? we all have free will. even GOD wont try to force u to do anything u just wont do. but keep in mind, there are consequences for everything. GOD set things in motion, and we cannot change those things.( though many keep trying)..
It was a great book tour for him because nobody questioned the lack of validity of his smear campaign against the Van Halen Bros . Like why is it OK for Sammy to sell his Can't Drive 55 song for Konami's Ridge Racer Type 4 videogame commercial YET it's some big sin if a couple Van Halen songs for TV commercials ?
Well, you know, Sam is a balanced human being, from what I hear. I don't know how you could not work out any issue, for the most part. So, VH in mind, Dave Roth, seems to be unbalanced. Hearing Dave talk, he is out there, not grounded, really kinda strange, just listen to him sometime, he sounds nuts. And Eddie, I see an unstable person, that Al just follows..Van Halen should have stayed with Sam, they were the best band in the world, the Mighty Van Halen. Sammy could still sing, Roth is shot, can't sing to save his life. That's my view point.......bro's, wake up...time is running out, Al, Ed......leif🍁
in reply to barret707 - i guess u didnt read my the paragraph above ur comment here. listen, i am not debating religion or beliefs. i am simply stating a fact. GOD is a fact! we were all similarly, and uniquely (and marvelously) created by our father (GOD) in heaven.. and it was also he that created life and all things. (keep in mind though, that the story of adam and eve explains our corrupt human nature, and the test of our all our lives is to determine if we will choose GOD or our own way

Sammy is one of the real iconic rockers. Chickenfoot is not his best work, Van Halen should thank Sammy for aiding in Van Halen's success; in the ten years Sammy was a member. Montrose, awesome band. Awesome front man.
Sammy, st this point it isn't as important to cut a new CD with anyone as it is to keep affordable live performances going. The festival good feeling vibe of concerts is fading fast. So many greats are dying or unable to play. Get out there with good musicians, play your own music and play everyone else's too. There is decades of great tunes not being played because the original artist are dead or not together. Play it all.
uhhhhhh noooooooooo, GOD is a fact. and by the way, so is jesus christ! give him a chance! he changed my life and he will changes urs too! ( if u let him) ???????????
Your Faith is things you hope for but haven't seen. Don't confuse what you have Faith in and the reality that it is just that, faith not proven fact. The problem with religion is those believing it want to impose their values and faith in others, no way.
God does exist but not in the old man with a beard in the sky. God is not Santa Claus but an omnipotent being not of flesh but of energy. My theory anyways
reply part #3 barrett707- to make things better, more understandable,right... listen, if u really want to talk about this. get in touch with me off youtube, and i will explain it all to u.. i have been connected to jesus, and GOD our father, for many years now, ( by my own choice) and i can tell u many stories of how they have worked in and thru me in my own life and many others. i cannot and will not deny this truth, or reality, and infact, i know poeple need to be made aware this.

Thanks to Jeff for this. Sammy is always "on", but this was a special interview. I really enjoyed this.
the best interview I've ever seen take place!!! :-) ,Sammy you are the best and you were interviewed by the best hands down beautiful!!!! :-)
What a GREAT interview !
One of the best I’ve seen with Sammy

This interview shows what a difference a GOOD interviewer makes in an interview. Sammy was great, but Jeff is just phenomenal.
Thanks very much for this Jeff. I've been a fan of Sammy's since he joined Van Halen and although I have their entire collection, I think they were a better band with him as a vocalist. this is one of the best interviews... Great insight into the Red Rocker..
Sammy is a total class act, great interview as well. I enjoyed this
Can you imagine the legacy of great records we'd have had if Sammy didn't leave VH? What a shame
I wish Ed had stopped smoking twenty years ago.
Sam I am honored to get to that insight to your life and career.. brother I feel your spirit, your an inspiration to those of us that have like minded ideas

A really good interview. Good job to this Jeff Woods dude. Sammy really is a champion.
Sammy is so cool. I’m going back listening to 5150, OU812 etc... check out
“Feels So Good” off 812. A hidden gem.
I could listen to Sammy all day. God Bless bro you’re loved!
Good, insightful interview with Sammy. Much more indepth than the typical that just focuses on the Van Halen days. Nice work!
Very Good interview. Jeff Woods did a Great job: knowledgeable, definitely actually read the book, a big fan of Sammy's but didn't slobber all over him and let him talk without interjecting. The most honest, down to earth, and hardest working man in rock music. His autobiography is truly inspiring. Much love Sammy.
Hagar has a rare combination of appreciation, enjoyment and perspective. "Know thyself" .. often said, almost never embodied.
You are a healer Sammy. Good music is good medicine!
Love Sammy awesome interview
Van Halen had more #1 albums with Hagar, and more #1 singles with Hagar. Entertainer or not, Van Halen was at its best with Sammy! He took Van Halen to the next level. Its a shame that Eddie had to go thru his drunken stooper
Mark Copfer They also made far more poppy, radio bait music.
+Ryan Doyle 1984 strongly hinted that they were already headed that way
Hey Mark. I liked VH with Dave, but with Sammy, I loved VH. A sound I could really appreciate....
In high school most of the kids loved VH because Dave was a good front man. But with Sammy, the tune became just good music.
Sold more albums with Roth. Debut album and 1984 sold like 10 million each.
"Having confidence is really important." - True. Thanks Sammy! It's the most important.
Sammy ..you are a healer, and an inspiration to so many. Thanks for everything brother.
the book is AWESOME.....grew up hearing him on the radio and records when I was a kid...I had older sisters...never got into him....now at age 45 I'm a huge fan......he lived the life and was a good guy...IS a good guy!

what a fantastic interview!! and for once its not all about van halen.
didn't Kenny Aronoff play wih Chickenfoot in Oklahoma?
Red rocker is the best. Thanks Sammy!!!
Best interviewer ever
Jeff Woods looks like an older James Hetfield
Definitely! He does look like him.
I thought it WAS Hetfield for a few mins.
Uncanny resemblance.
Excellent!!! Nobody rocks like Sammy!! ♪
Yep Sam's the man :)
Your the Best Sammy. 🎸🎶

my kind of man. much love Sammy
Sammy were those apartments on Pepper in Fontana?
This interviewer looks like James Hetfield's non-alcoholic brother
I LOVE YOU SAMMY \m/!

Sammy is the man.
maybe he shouldn't have tried to call the shots for the future of VH while ed and alex were in the band...?...hello?
THE REDROCKER IS KING!!!!
i love Sammy
Sammy's just down to earth and humble!!!
"There's a lot of fakes out there, fake rockstars" lol

The problem is new rock music isn't promoted. It doesn't matter what rockers put out, it is as dead as big band music was in the 1970s.
