I have a complete (7.2.4) Def Tech setup with this center speaker (front 9080 towers, 9080 SR, 8060 rear towers /atmos toppers, x2 DN10s). This center channel shines and pulls everything together!
I have run this 9080 for 5yrs with the towers and dual svs subs in a small to medium size room with NO issues with integration! Bass curve is solid, dialogue and imaging are superb....sounds better than movie theaters....This center channel flat out rocks!! Just connect it as regular speaker and let it eat....bass knob adjustment is intelligent and is not just a higher volume setting either.
I wouldn't use this center subwoofer with the subwoofer out , I would use the center preout on the receiver and set center to "Large" 👌, and love the sound of Def Tech Towers , never owned a pair , but have Demoed, really nice
@@Kpaceguy kinda like the way I would tell your buddy to set up his Powered Towers. If possible , I wouldn't pump out LFE out of the towers, I would just run them Large and have a good subwoofer for dedicated LFE. Interesting experiment though with just running the Center Sub.
FYI that woofer in the center channel is not meant to replace your subwoofer, but to complement it, it’s just a three way speaker that sounds amazing and you should NEVER feed it LFE from the receiver read the manual please! I have it in my LCR with a pair of BP 9080x which also have a 12 inch active subwoofer each and still they are not meant to replace your subwoofer. That role goes in my case to a 15 inch DN15
I have the towers and I use them full range with no LFE and love the sound. I did use it with the LFE and I thought speaker level gave a fuller sound. Yes, the LFE gave stronger bass, but in my room it just wasn’t as good of a sound overall. It’s like some of the bass was missing. The speaker level sound gave more than enough bass and I even turned it down a little. I’m using a Pioneer Elite 505 (5.2.4) to push them.
Definitive Technology recommends not to use the LFE inputs on the back. They spent a lot of man hours blending them. If you turn the knob on the back to raise the sub levels, they are still blended. I have the same CS9080, BP9060 towers, and the CS9040 for the Center front height channel along with 2 DN12 subs and one Klipsch RS-112SW sub. I have no issues with even bass in my setup
Def tech 9080 here with 5.1.4, and DNR 12 + yamaha 3080 all set to large and phasing sub in at 40hz, extra bass on 3080 yama allows for the sub and center along with CLR and SRSL sound amazing phased in correctly. The CS9080 is amazing when paired with a rec that can really bring it out.
It may sound counter intuitive to this product line. However, definitive technology engineers state that you should not use the line in for sub. A year or so back. I watched definitive technology videos where they were explaining how to use their built-in subs. And they state to just run speaker wire and let the speaker itself cross over to the sub and again, not use the line input. I feel like they basically said they had to have the line input because of marketing department kind of deal. Anyway I suppose the ideal set up for this product is that all your Speakers in your System are this nine thousand series and you run no subs except for the ones built into each speaker using only the internal crossover. At least that's how they present to use the product line.
No go for this center channel cuz it's full range speaker and the center most of the dialogue and a lot of action happens so it's not meant to replace your subwoofer It's meant to augment it and this is an amazing center channel speaker
Totally worth the money. I totally agree with you, run a dedicated subwoofer as well. I have an 11.2 surround system with 2) SVS PB 2000's. The low frequencies this center channel puts out is good for low frequency voices but it will not assault the room like dedicated subs. Unfortunately my cats love to walk across the top. I put a pet deterrent with plastic spikes on top to keep them off.
It's pretty fairly rated. It'll hit 24 with decent output but it falls off a cliff after that. It's not hitting 24 at dedicated subwoofer volume levels
Center doesn't make as much sense as mains where their placement is close to where you would normally place a sub. Lower frequencies aren't as directional so I never sense a break from one speaker to the other which is where I think having a sub in a speaker would be advantageous.
First love your videos, I mean no disrespect but read the manual. I own the previous series and by no means is that center made to be a dedicated sub it is only meant to complement and play lower and fuller.
Thanks for that guy for sharing his speaker ( i think ive seen a video of his before🤔).… Anyways i think having a sub in the center channel and or esp in the the left right speakers or a dedicated sub for them is the way to go. For a while i was using an old RCA labyrinth speaker from an old stereo it was a left channel speaker but i was using it for a center, the reason being it had a built in woofer when laid down on its side it looked like a center channel and had two bi wire type inputs one input for the voice speakers and one input for the woofer after hearing how it sounds compared to a regular center with no woofer i cant go back and infact want to add an actual sub to the center. so ive been looking for a center like this but after seeing this video its not what i thought because my understanding is that unless you use it with lfe input the only output from the high frequency inputs will be the basic speakers no sub when using as a center? Its a cool idea maybe for a studio or apt but would be better if allowed to use the sub for the center only.... guess ill have to build one! 👨🏻🔧 Great videos as always keep it up👍🏼
Don't use the line- in. They highly recommend not to. That's way on the new line they don't give you the option. This speakers are really met for someone that dose not want to have subs but have good bass. I have owned these and really did enjoy them but if you are running true subs you maybe better off looking elsewhere.
why are you comparing a subwoofer to a center channel with a built in subwoofer 🤦🏾we all no that’s no comparison we wanna know does having a built in sub give you any real benefits in music movies tv

Wow that's nice of him. I always heard great things about this centre channel

You couldn't do that. You'd have no mids and highs you'd only have a weird sounding subwoofer
@@Kpaceguy Brah....
@steverosales2616 oh I get what your saying!

Yes I THINK his receiver has pre outs so it should work

I would definitely love one of these. I have the 9040 towers and the 9040 center. I love these speakers
This is a bad n miss leading review!... This speaker is simply amazing and it's definitely worth it.
If it's bad because you disagree then I'm happy. That's what audio is all about
You don’t need a LFE line to run this speaker as full range it has internal crossovers. It’s one thing to disagree another to be wrong.

I was going to ask this question, that way it's just a Large speaker.
Yes I think you're right about your theory
I'd run it with the crossover set to 40hz and let the internal Crossover network of the speaker figure it all out.
Hi, how did remove the plastic on the connection ?I have a red and black plasticin front of mine!Thank in advance
Are you talking about inside the terminals ?
No it was the little plastic that cover the gold terminal.I remove them with a needle.Thank you so much for the answer

Have you measured it? How deep it really can go?
It's pretty fairly rated. It'll hit 24 with decent output but it falls off a cliff after that. It's not hitting 24 at dedicated subwoofer volume levels
Are you using dedicated center channel or lfe output?
Tried both but in the video it was LFE
What happened to the side panels?
He bought it used
Thanks for saving me from buying this center speaker
One other minor thing, Def Tech says the center only needs 1” of headroom above the center.
