    09:50 Unless you have acoustically transparent screen, you shouldn't put the center speaker behind the screen. And if you have 4K or 8K screen, it's rarely acoustically transparent because the traditional way to make it acoustically transparent was to make if full of small holes. 4K resolution is high enough that any holes in the screen cause problems.
    Having the center below or above the screen is fine but you should make sure that the second row can *see* the center speaker or they will get much worse dialogue audio. (This works because ears are around the same height in your head as your eyes. If the center speaker is too low and you cannot see it, you cannot either directly hear it and you'll be listening bounced audio only.)

    • @Antimonkat
      @Antimonkat 2 роки тому +11

      at any reasonable seating distance, the holes don't make any noticeable difference with even a halfway decent screen weave even at 4k. all pro cinema's have speakers behind an AT screen, it's fine

      " And if you have 4K or 8K screen, it's rarely acoustically transparent because the traditional way to make it acoustically transparent was to make if full of small holes."
      For higher resolutions there's a lot of weaved screens that are acoustically transparent and can handle a user sitting much closer than a perforated screen. The tradeoff is gain is usually around 10-15% lower on the weave screen vs a perf. (0.85 vs 1.0)

    Subwoofer placement definitely matters. Room modes are a real thing and you can get huge dips in bass in certain seating positions if you are not careful. 2 subwoofers definitely helps even this out but it is still important to place them correctly. Doing a sub crawl will help in this regard and also running room correction software will help as well as long as it has a separate bass management component, ie Dirac Live, Audyssey XT etc.

    • @Antimonkat
      @Antimonkat 2 роки тому +1

      yeah but at the same time it matters less the more subs you have, and in his case he has them in differnt planes, vertical and horizontal. to, he's running 4 subs, with 6 drivers, depending on how he is running his towers anyway. Obviously wih the room config the subs can only go so many places without being in the way, it'll be fine, especially if he doesn't obsess over seat to seat consistency, long as they get time and phase aligned.

    • @DJTimeLock
      @DJTimeLock 2 роки тому +3

      As Dan said the frequencies are so low that their wavelength is so big it'll practically fill the entire room regardless of where they are. What you should however note is the reflection of those waves as the reflected waves can counteract and indeed create "dead space" (look at 2 water drips falling into a pond and how their waves cancel each other out at certain parts). But other than that its not that big a deal (and tbh you gotta be real unlucky for that to happen anyway)

    • @KoenvdW88
      @KoenvdW88 2 роки тому +2

      Except for the fact that Audyssey is the worst room correction software in the world and hates subwoofers. Sub placement matters only if it's a ported sub where the port is aimed at you and you've only got reflective surfaces. If I can get away with just putting a balled up pair of socks in my soundbar's ported upright sub and having it sound fine in a very reflective room, Linus will not be running into issues here. The only times I've had to do a sub crawl in the past 10 years was when someone had set up their speakers with Audyssey and I had to correct it for them...

    • @Antimonkat
      @Antimonkat 2 роки тому +1

      @@KoenvdW88 oh there are worse...arc didn't even work til recently. and no one like yamaha's implementation. Audyssey is fine if you help it with the editor and don't give it complete crap to start with. Bottom line, if you have 2 or more (high quality) subs you're going to be ok, unless you are in a very challenging room. And I doubt the kids or his wife are all that picky anyway.

    • @joegibes
      @joegibes 2 роки тому +3

      For a small room with two subs, it'll probably sound fine wherever - but it's worth working on the placement to get consistent bass at most of the seats.
      Also probably worth floor to ceiling corner bass traps and acoustic panels at first reflection points... The acoustic treatment would be a nice project, maybe they can bring in someone experienced to teach us!

    To solve your projector light bleed issue when watching various aspect ratio content you'll want to consider swapping to something that supports an anamorphic lens. • @Antimonkat

    Any speaker or subwoofer with a port that is aimed at a wall will be highly sensitive to its position relative to the wall. The frequency response (using the PC2000 sub as an example) will show a large peak at one frequency and a large null at a related frequency. These frequencies vary depending on the distance of the port from the wall. While the auto-calibration feature of a receiver or processor will attempt to compensate, that compensation will result in large EQ boosts/cuts which affect both phase response and system headroom. With this many speakers in this size room, headroom is not so much of an issue - but you may find that you can get better results with much less correction with speaker placement that takes the port location into account. Looks like a fun project!

    Congrats on the theater! This was a goal of mine in college. I saved up, didn't buy my first car like most folks (I can't drive for disability reasons) - so instead I built a theater in my bedroom (aka Dad's basement). That was 20 years ago (eek). But I know that moment when you first turn on the projector or get the sound working.
    I've got an SVS sub from that era and my friend's joked I stole it from a movie theater.
    I don't get to use it these days as I moved into a small apartment when I moved out of Dad's house and haven't landed in a house of my own yet (thanks housing market disaster). But when I do, I'll definitely be reviving the theater.

    Love the house videos. I've always heard use a white screen if you have a super light controlled room. You get more brightness and therefore more contrast.

    Gotta add an amp for those towers and center!! I just did last week for the towers (Parasound A21+). Huge difference from bass response to just sound stage and separation from it. Now I just need to save up for the a52+ for the surrounds and center
