This is a long time struggle I’ve had. Of course, am now an expert on timing the ‘second’ key turn to catch the prop spin. We really appreciate your videos on the ‘misc’ topics!
Kevin, the most common issue with wiring for the starter is the 2 ground cables, one on the motor, one onthe battery/chassis.. the next most common error I see is a loose cable crimp on the starter cable at the starter. Wiggle all the connections on the cable to check em. goose
Thank you Jim.. we have done several of these mods now.. the common thread is the grounds.. Aviat needs to improve the grounds. the number one spot is the battery to a/c ground.. it needs to be removed, sanded, and mounted with An/AS washers.. and move the ELT and any other lug grounds to the starter mount bolt.. additionally, the engine ground seems to Always be loose. The Level 2 modifications are in another video where we change to the ERZ 8011 starter, and #2 cable, with thin strand Copper grounds.. That turns it into a beast.. Im also will be seeking approval for a solid state relay somtime in the future with double the current.. I tested one on my plane and it was awesome. THe White Rogers relay is old and very inefficient.. thanks for watching goose
