I had one exactly the same, bought it in Cardiff but had not passed my test at the time, never mind I was young and foolish still drove it all over the country loved that car,it was my first car.
My first car was the later 1500 version. Lovely cars with an unusual fwd configuration which wasn't without it's issues. You did need to spend most weekends tinkering however to keep them going. I upgraded to a Dolomite Sprint. Looked similar but a completely different beast.
I had a green one of these, J plate, when I was a student in Glasgow around 1980 (so I guess around 9 years old). Cost me £200. I was at the lights at Sauchehall Street (thankfully the quiet, near-university end) when I tried to pull off, and was met by a thumping noise and a waft of steam. The engine had fallen off its mountings and tore off the heater hoses. It was towed home and fixed. Lovely thing, great dash, but I suspect the rear wheel drive versions of this bodyshape were nicer to drive.
