  • Doing my first trail race, first marathon and first ultra. Follow along as plans change. It's a day I'll never forget, the rugged beauty, laughing, crying, the pain, the challenge, the weather (cold!), the support. What it takes to run under 14hours to get the silver buckle.
Any questions leave a comment and I'll get back to you.

Congratulations. That is a tough 100K course and your efforts and remarkable time was truly awesome. Fantastic video too. I completed my first ever 100K just a few weeks ago and definitely going to do another one next year.

Well done! You've really captured what it's like to do an ultra... having done the 50 on the same day - I'm amazed at your effort getting down Kedumba pass and back up to Scenic World on legs with 90k on them. Now I have a taste of what I'm in for in May! Huge respect!

Sorry to hear UTA was cancelled this year :( alas I really really struggled at the end as I couldn't bend my leg, due to peri tendonitis which occurred in the first 10-15km, it steadily got worse as the day went on.. took me close to 6months to recover, as it became proximal afterwards.
My biggest advice would be knee warmers if its cold for those steps etc in the early parts.. ease into it and stay warm. After ~45km everything hurts, but aside from my hammy it mostly stayed the same, it's more a mental game! Enjoy the experience, and the emotional roller coaster. Remember just to keep moving, even if you're in a rough patch there's light (literally) at the end of the tunnel (finish line!). You'll smash it when you finally get the chance to run it!

That was a well put together video with fantastic scenery.
It was an amazing effort by yourself to not only complete the run but to run it in the time that you did.👏👏👏👏👊👍😃

Well done!! Also great footage - I attempted this in 2019 and did most of CP4-CP5 in the dark so was great to see what I missed out on! Doesn't look quite as intimidating as how I remember it :) Unfortunately I DNF due to knee issue at 78km, but am back this year to finish it.. Amazing effort to get that done in under 14hrs, congrats!

I guess it's going to be 2023 now.. good luck. It's definitely an amazing experience / course. As I understand after 80km there's not much to see (just glimpses of Katoomba from the valley floor), so I'm very thankful I got to see the sights while there was daylight!

James finished a bit over 18hrs. He got held up at a checkpoint, as they couldn't find his bag drop and it had some mandatory kit in there that he needed for the night run.. he did amazing to keep going through the night to finish!

Cheers mate. Just under 4500m elevation gain. It's what made this such a challenging event for me.
