Entangled Life is a wonderful and fascinating book about mushrooms. I had no idea what an incredibly vital role they play in so many different aspects of our lives.
I am so glad I found this channel. We have the same taste in books. I started Jamaica Inn last night after being in a reading slump, I found this book thanks to you and another video. I loved Rebecca, so I know I’ll love this. ❤
I had a good reading month in January as well. For once I'm actually ahead on my goodreads challenge instead of behind. I also read a T. Kingfisher book in January. I read and really liked Thornehedge.
The chicken is awesome. T. Kingfisher has a wonderful sense of humor. I understand the comparison of Nettle & Bone and Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Faeries. I want more books with that dark cozy vibe.
@@TheBookCastle I would like to ask for help. I'm interested in a fictional book about the life of Mary Shelley. I found 35 on Google but I am interested in a recent publication that I have seen reviews on in 2023 (But can't find😂). Thank you so much! I thought you might know or have read it.
I just finished The Last Devil to Die and thoroughly enjoyed it, just like the others. This series was your recommendation, so thank you! Wow, I wish I could say that I had read seven books this month!
"Entangled Life: How Fungi Make Our Worlds" is a great read for both the mushroom aficionado and the mushroom curious. Worth it to spring for the illustrated edition.-- gorgeous photography.
Nettle and Bone-one of my favorites by T Kingfisher so glad you enjoyed it! Magpie Murders was good as was the second one I thought. The Cloisters I really liked especially the plant skull cover 💀 Addie Larue was highly rated by me at first but on reflection after awhile I unhauled the book which says it all. I am putting off reading The Last Devil - I don’t want to cry 😢
Your issues with Addie LaRue is exactly my issue. You live forever but you remain the same? Your thoughts are the same? It was such an interesting concept though. I even tried rereading it but I couldn't get through the flashbacks because nothing happened.
Yeeesss my thoughts exactly on Addie LaRue 💔 I really wanted to love it and I loved the concept and the writing but everything else was just meh 😕 but I’m now definitely picking up nettle and bone, it’s been on my tbr anyway ☺️
I def’d Addie Larue. Now I don’t feel like I was wrong haha. Nettle and Bone will be here any day now. I just ordered The Magpie Murders based on your review 😊. I recently finished A Dreadful Splendor and loved it immensely (for those who love gothic mysteries, 5 stars for me). The last book I read was The Rift (picked up on a whim used at library shop, very good). But now, I am starting When the Moon Hatched (which just arrived). 🤞🏻
❤📚 I enjoy your reviews so much! I've read Nettle and Bone, as well as The Cloisters. My thoughts exactly on both, and I rated the same. The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue on my read list ... may rethink that decision. 😉
I'm a horror fan and I had the exact same thoughts about Near the Bone! I've had Nettle & Bone and The Invisible Life of Addie Larue on my TBR for a while, now I know which of the two to prioritize 🤭
I'm so glad to hear you review of Addie LaRue. I tried really hard but it was so boring. I think I made it halfway. It was repetitive and the concept was just beat down in the first hundred or so pages. The main character was boring and I just didn't care what happened. There was nothing to be interested in.
Not a mushroom book, but an eel one (lol): there's a Swedish book called "Ålevangeliet" ("The Gospel of Eels" in English, I think), which is about this guy and his dad who used to go eel fishing together when he was a kid. Every second chapter or so is about eels as creatures - I never knew there was that much to say about eels, but apparently they are very mysterious😂
I'm also thinking I need to be more generous with my 5 stars this year although I'm also trying to be more judicious about what I read, to not get caught in the hype of certain books. I just finished Betty by Tiffany McDaniel which is a 5 star. Beautifully written and so heart-breaking. I also gave a 5 star to Hamnet by Maggie O'Farrell in January.
I was surprised to enjoy Nettle and Bone because I’m not a big fantasy reader. It’s a fun read… I wouldn’t consider it to be horror at all as one person commented.
I read The Cloisters in January as well, I agree its a slightly forgettable book, I liked the start of it but I felt like it could have gone deeper into the topics
Hi new here, I read 11 books in January The Good Girl's Guide to Murder Series by Holly Jackson (4 books) The Sinister Booksellers of Bath by Garth Nix The Family Next Door by Sally Hepworth Spaceboy by David Walliams Witch by Mark Brownless 1689 by Amy Cross The Library of Lost and Found Phaedra Patrick The Reading List by Sara Nisha Adams
yes it is a bit of a record for me, last year I only read 1 book in January. Since I have been watching booktubers I have been reading way more books. @@TheBookCastle
I also felt sorta luke-warm (or luc-warm? Haha...) about Addie LaRue. Solid 3 star I think, I would have liked the focus to be more on the different historical times, but it always came back to Luc, and their "relationship" didn't do it for me. Also the book took me 3 months to finish it, partly because my work schedule is pretty tight but also because I was never really that hooked, although still invested in some way.
I’ve only seen the TV adaptation of Magpie Murders and it was great. I recommend it! (Så den på NRK og den het «Siste kapittel», men klarer ikke finne den der nå…)
Yeeees!!! 👏🏻 Magpie Murders and Moonflower Murders were my favorite books of 2023, just wonderful!

I am with you on Addie Larue, very underwhelming. I love your videos 😊
Great wrap up! I still have Magpie Murders on my list. I need to get to it soon!
Out of 104 books last year, I only had two 5-star reads, so I feel you.
I need to get back to Nettle and Bone! I picked it up like 2 years ago and couldn’t get into it but I think I would like it more now!
The chicken is awesome. T. Kingfisher has a wonderful sense of humor. I understand the comparison of Nettle & Bone and Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Faeries. I want more books with that dark cozy vibe.
I'm happy to hear your thoughts on Nettle & Bone. I've wanted to read it, but I am not huge on horror. I'll move it up the TBR.
I also loved the last devil to die! ❤but the the Stephen part hit me hard.
Right?? Me too!

You sold me Nettle and Bone! I've added it to my wishlist :)
Hope you enjoy it! 🥰🥰

Thank you!! 🖤🖤
Agree with you 100% about Addie LaRue. Beautiful writing, but very repetitive.

I’ve read that one!! Really fascinating (and I agree, who knew there was so much to know about eels 😅)

Yaaaay for Hamnet! 🥰
The Magpie Murders tv show is also very clever and well done.
I felt the same way about Addie Larue. I think that’s why I dropped it after nothing was happening
I was surprised to enjoy Nettle and Bone because I’m not a big fantasy reader. It’s a fun read… I wouldn’t consider it to be horror at all as one person commented.
I agree 100000% on TILOAL awful! I DNF’d at about the 1/2 point. Sadly, that was my 1st Swabb book and I won’t seek her other work out
I read The Cloisters in January as well, I agree its a slightly forgettable book, I liked the start of it but I felt like it could have gone deeper into the topics
I wonder who classifies Nettle and Bone as horror 'cause this is surely not it 😂 Magpie Murders piqued my interest.

Hahaha that pun cracked me up 😂😂

Jeg har hørt så mye bra om den!! Får håpe jeg finner den et eller annet sted (hvis ikke kommer den sikkert tilbake til NRK til påske!) 🥰😃
I started this and when I was reading how the husband was treating her I got too mad! So I put it down
