I’m going to do it ASAP! I’ll be 50 in two years when my youngest graduates and I can sell my house. I love my friends and my job but I can’t afford this house by myself much longer. I’m scraping by to give my kids the stability they need. But as soon as they can be on their own (or with their dad if needed) I am out! I want to see and do ALL the things before I’m too old to enjoy it all. I told my son I’d love to be a cashier at a gift shop in Yellowstone- he looked at me like I was crazy- but honestly, that’s what I want to do!

Liz, let me first say that we love your channel! RV full time living is not for everyone, though. We dabbled in it for a while, but it wasn’t for us. My wife and I are similar in that we like to have a permanent place to call home . I have to believe that some due diligence research on your part would have avoided the awful location your home was located in. For our part, my wife and I have found that having a “sticks and bricks” home is much more secure than living full time in an RV. In fact, trips in our RV are more special to us BECAUSE they aren’t day to day living - they are trips to “get away” and see something new. Different strokes for different folks I guess!

    • @LizAmazing
      @LizAmazing  Рік тому +8

Hi Alfred! Unfortunately we bought that house in the summer when traffic was much less. Even talking to the neighbors did not reveal the problem. Their homes were situated such the noise was not an issue. The sellers of the home had passed some years prior so we couldn't ask them. It was just dumb luck I guess. So glad you tried fulltime RV life and have now found what works for you. Thanks for your kind words, and for watching. Appreciate you helping me get closer to 100k!

I have to agree, the RV trip would be fun, but not full time. I have seen 100 videos about RV, and only one showing how you empty the dark waste tank. And that's about as many times as I would ever want to deal with that per year. I do sympathize with their home buying mistake. I made a commitment to a job once, during summer. Same as she said, the world is a different place in most states in the summer. Traffic was nothing, and then it was 2 hours longer to get to work in the Fall. Don't buy anything or make huge life choices during summer, unless you live in permanent summer like SoCal, or Arizona or Florida. Also, when you buy homes, people flee like flies, because it is not about them. You almost need a realtor and then a paid advisor who is not on a commission to get it right..

We have been RVing for 40 years and absolutely love it. We have traveled for months at a time all over this beautiful country, and we have always owned a home.
Ten years ago we purchased our current home (with cash made from owning and selling our other homes over 30 years). It is on 10 acres in the Sierra Foothills with a detached shop and RV garage. For us having a beautiful home to come back to is very important. Being retired we still have the freedom and resources to travel in our RV whenever we want, owning homes has helped make that possible. We do not have to worry about where the money is coming from.
Owing Real Estate is more than simply a home base it is an investment in future financial security. Paying rent will never gain you anything other than a temporary place to stay, all that rent money is gone.
I hear what Liz is saying here and agree with many of her points. But for us we also want a home where we can have family and friends over and make memories also.
For my wife and I we find that having a "sticks & bricks" home and an RV work great. We are all very fortunate to be able to make these kind of decisions, freedom is truly priceless!

Hitting my 7 year anniversary of full time RVing. I can't believe it's been that long. I could never go back to a sticks and bricks lifestyle. I don't like staying in one place too long. Our homes have wheels for a reason. I started work camping last year. I got to spend 3 months in Santa Barbara CA and next month I am going to a work camping job in the Park city Utah area for the summer. Can't wait. The people you meet too.

The sunrise and sunset bought back memories. I lived on Key West for a few years and had two jobs. One early in the morning at a hotel and watched the sunrise over the water and the other at a gas station and watched the sunset over the water. It was awesome.

If anything will keep me going it’s traveling and meeting people without the stress of constant hospital appointments which genuinely achieve nothing but depression. I’m fed up with being told what I can’t do anymore because I’m ill and so I’m challenging the medics around me and going forward with my dreams. I have complete medical insurance anywhere in the world so I’m free to roam around the country choosing the climate that best suits me and my dog. She’s a service/care dog and it’s like having a best friend alongside me.

My wife are 18 months away from retirement and plan to move into our RV full time as well. We currently have our motorhome at a seasonal park and every time we go up there, it just feels so relaxing and we are so at ease. It was great during Covid as we had an escape from the house and is becoming more like home all the time. One thing we both really like is how friendly everyone at the park is, how giving people are and the interesting lives people have lived. Many people are full-timers who stay in the park for 6 months to be near family and then spend the remaining 6 months of the year travelling the continent.

We have never been full-time rvers, but we have enjoyed exploring since purchasing our first pop-up tent trailer when our boys were 4 and 8 years old back in 1988. Our best family memories are from our RV adventures. We're in our seventies and still enjoy hitting the road, and we're about to downsize from a 34' motorhome to a smaller 25" motorhome that will be easier to handle while still providing us a home on wheels. Aside from exploring new areas and sites, you are so correct about the sense of community amongst RVers and that you meet so many interesting people. For the most part, most RVers don't care what kind of rig you have or your financial status and just enjoy sharing experiences and conversations about the RV lifestyle. Many of our friends in our housing community can't understand why we continue to travel with a RV, but they are often very interested what we have to say about it. Our goal is to continue to explore as long as we can and there is just so much more of this country we would like to see. Thanks for sharing you thoughts and experiences!

Tip about how to avoid the disaster Liz experienced with her dream house-turned nightmare: Visit the neighborhood during the day during the workweek, and also on the weekend. During the weekend trip, take the time to knock on the doors of neighbors of where you could live to ask them their opinion of the neighborhood, e.g. traffic, type of neighborhood, etc. Doing so when I house hunting some years ago kept me from buying a place downwind from a huge pig farm, and if you know how awful the smell can be, you know why I chose to bail on that too-good-to-be-truth home offering.

    • @LizAmazing
      @LizAmazing  Рік тому +5

That's a bullet you dodged for sure. We actually did talk to neighbors but our lot was so very noisy while next door neighbors were not. And we bought in the summer when school was out and traffic much quieter. Just bad luck I guess. Thanks for watching.

That all works in a normal world but our world has been far from normal in the last 3 years now..In our local real estate market here in AR if you find a house that you like for sale, you don't have the time to do all the research on the neighbors ect. Most houses sell within the first 24 hrs so that doesn't leave time for any of that. Basically, if you can find a house that you like, you better snatch it up before someone else does! Sooo many people are fleeing the big cities in search of a more calmer and slower (quality) way of life these days. We have a motorhome that we use but absolutely can't wait till the day we can sell off and hit the road full time too! There is soooo much to see out there in Merica!!! Some people love full time travel others don't. We love it!!!
We totally relate Liz!! Rock on girl!!!! 💪

Many love RVing till ... they don't. You're still young and healthy but as you get older, things change and NOT for the better. It is always good to have a place of your own (house/apartment/home base) to come back to, ALWAYS. It is always nice to see your kids especially grandkids and NOT just few times a year (we see them daily). Trips .... do you really need a $100k+ RV to take trips, how about a van, you can either camp or stay in a small motel, and after few months or so of traveling, you can always come back to your home base.
Good for you that you love what you're doing, for us, we love traveling and sightseeing as well but to a point, after few months we cannot wait to get back.
Good luck to you in your travels.

We already did! Last May 1st we moved into our motorhome and haven't looked back. We are coming up on one year and have no regrets at all. We have decided, at least for the foreseen future to stay in Nevada and see the state we were born in and have lived in for all our lives and yet, haven't scratched the surface of what it holds. Maybe, eventually, we'll check out surrounding state areas, we've talked about Quartzite. But, for now, for the most part, we are learning more about our home state and loving it. We do talk about having a homebase, a place to park to make modifications and necessary repairs when we want to and for mail and to recharge occasionally, but otherwise I don't see us living in a sticks n bricks again.

I'll share a story for you in case you are reading these comments Liz. wink.
My older sister is 63 ... her and her husband are 20+ year Military Vet's... for many years they RV'd and camped, and hauled their Jeep or 4 wheeler. We would Camp at this great place in Virginia, I'd meet them there. About 2 years ago, when her husband finally retired (he's younger)... they took the RV across the USA....for a month....stopping at their brother's in Utah...down into New Mexico....etc.
When the housing market hit some peak numbers ....they sold their home in Maryland,
moved to "The Villages" (over 55, in Florida- yes THE bubble), parked the RV in storage, sold the 4 wheeler (sold the boat).
They had a mutual friend from the Military network with them to score a great home at The Villages...they joined clubs, swimming, golfing, RC (radio controlled) boating club....on and on ....clubs for everything, AND, party's at the square all the time...
Discussing this subject with another person who tends to need more "alone" time (like me) ...seems ...we get re-charged by Nature and solitude....our conclusion is....some people re-charge from socializing and being with others more.
Maybe they will get the RV out of storage someday...it's only been 1 year...
from: Mike ( at 62 years young, still riding a regular bike... yet, those e-bikes are cool for sure)

We reduced the noise with new windows, but are still hitting the road full time in a year for a few years. Always wonderful to watch one of your videos. Great post Liz! Sure, I am not full-time RV yet, but I am happy to say very minimalistic. All the clothes and items I care about fit into my RV. Sure there are some extra items in the house - a couch, TV, a bed and some tables and kitchen items but they are only things that can be gone in a moment. Would I give up the house completely?… Maybe, and many days I think - yes! At the moment it does serve as a reliable spot to do larger repairs, collect mail, designate an address for government things, and a ‘go-to’ if things on the road get really problematic. Also, if for some reason my kids needed a place of refuge, it is always there for them. Love your post Liz, you are AMAZING!! - Maarten.

One more thing…. the video you did on ebikes…. someone in your feed mentioned that Progressive doesn’t cover ebikes and my agent told me that they did when we signed up with Progressive in 2019! Well, I fired off an email to our insurance agent to have her double check if Progressive is still covering our ebikes….. NOPE, as of 2022 they will no longer cover them so I need to get a separate policy for those 2 expensive ebikes! So thank you for your video and the person who replied on your feed! Your videos help so many folks out there! My agent was very surprised about the changes! I love that RV’rs help each other! Keep up the good work!👍

Happy for you and all who break the chains placed on us by society. I bought a house for my mom and I've been debating on buying one for myself but I don't want to I want an RV so I can enjoy this beautiful country so many never get the chance to see. Thank you for sharing

I like what you said about meeting different people in live, yet we really are much more alike than we think. We all want good things for our family, good health, etc. And yes, media wants us to believe otherwise. Despite what we see on the news, there are more good people than bad!

I could do without a house. But I would still like to have a small cabin on some land to go back to once in awhile to gather with family or local friends.

The key to humanity is making friends with every type of person out there. Every race, every gender, every religion and every belief. Only then can you begin to understand the bigger picture and have empathy and compassion for all.

So true, we may not get to live our retirement dream. Full time RVing was ours. After losing my fiancé in June, I bought a minivan and doing some urban camping and adventuring on my days off. Because tomorrow isn’t promised!
