The 49ft Jeanneau has taken the lead from all other contenders to be the most grounded boat I’ve had the pleasure of dealing with and currently sit a top the list with 4 groundings. Based on the data from last year, this might be the last time we have to rescue this customer this year…but only time will tell. Both this year and last year he ran aground 2x early in the year and then didn’t run aground again for the rest of the year…so do you think he manages to stay off the sandbars the rest of the year down here or is a snowbird and goes back up north for the rest of the year?

The old man will be fine. After a lifetime of hard work, when he never had time to sail, it's good to see him enjoying his new boat in protected waters. I hope he never becomes content just sitting at home in a chair even if he gets stuck a few times.
We like repeat customers. Keeps our lights on. Thanks for the videos.
We sure do! Thanks for watching these videos and my coffee Daniel!
Nice job cap. Seemed a little stubborn at first but she came eventually. My Dad taught me a little thing yrs ago never pass anything over water to someone where you make contact over the water, if one of you accidentally fumbles it, well into the water it goes. If you drop it on there side or yours no harm...
Thanks Vancity!
He needs to rename his boat "Googanmeister". 😂
At least he had his sails down 👍
Hahaha. That's true 😂
Is Beryl upsetting your weather any? Liked your tec for getting him free.
Thanks Colin.
No. Not in the slightest. It passed so far south and then to the west that we haven't had any changes up here. Wish we'd get some of that wind though, it's been so hot and humid with almost no breeze the last 3 weeks
Awesome job captain ken. Keep the camera rolling- you never know what’s next!
Thanks capt!
I just love watching your videos they are awesome and educational, THANKS
Thanks Brian!
It was fun meeing you at the boat show (I was a little star struck). Happy to have a renewed membership. He was suddenly set free like he was on a rock or coral. Great job as always. Love these videos.
Hahaha. Thanks Patrick! It was nice to finally meet the guy behind all these comments!
I'm glad you stopped by and we got that membership renewed for you even though I hope for your sake you never have to use it! 😁
Nice big boat with nice big chart plotter he doesn't use 😅
Pretty much...
Nice job Capt!
Thanks Mick!
Wow. Bless his heart. lol👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
nice job
Thanks superape!
Nice job as always Cap.. new sub to your channel
Thanks daddysails!
Just pull it in tight!🤣
Yep 😂
So Capt Ken do you get many calls for groundings inside the channel markers?
I can't remember every job I've done, but I'd say I've only had maybe 3 that ran aground actually inside a channel...right outside the channel, yeah tons of those 😂
49' is obviously WAY too much boat for this guy.
Whats the draft of that sailboat? My old Coronado 30 was supposed to have a draft of like 4.5 feet with a trim tab that could be cranked to fine tune your course ... like a tiny rudder on the back of the keel. BBBUUUTTT someone changed the keel and that boat easily had 6 foot draft, and no trim tab. I bet I could find bottom better and faster then anyone else in the Northern hemisphere!! I'm probably the Workd champion bottom banger. Lol
I can't remember exactly, but I think it's around 5.5
@CaptKenO I know it can be frustrating when you get close to 5.5 feet... but that still shouldn't be too much of a problem, even in Florida.
It's really not an issue if you stay in the channels and pay attention to your depth finder. There are a few spots in the area where they wouldn't be able to go in the channel, but they wouldn't really have a reason to go there
@@CaptKenO Lol. Yep been there more then once. Lol
How do you run up on ground with todays navigation equipment. Serious question.
Around our area the shoaling changes so fast that sometimes the navigational aids are no longer correct including the ones on chart plotters/gps units. This can create problems for everyone, especially for transients. who are just passing through. I’m assuming this guy is probably a transient boater.
Not paying attention to charts and/or depth finders. Where he ran aground was a tricky area, but he boats in this area plenty, so he should know better
Did you pull him off with just one engine? Looked like only one was in gear?
Both were in gear
Set that depth finder a tad deeper and turn it way up. 😇
LOL 🤣
Question. How many times can you use the BoatUS membership for towing and soft ungrounding before they cancel you?
I believe it’s 5 times in 12 months or at least that’s what it was when I worked for them..
Not enough if you don't know the local water.
I've heard it's five times a year and then they may not renew your membership...but I haven't actually found anything that states that specifically and it sounds like even if you do they don't automatically kick you out...🤷
I have been a BoatUS member since 1989 and have used the once.
Did you have it full throttle to get them off bottom
This boat won't let me use full throttle when doing a static pull and limits it to about 3/5 throttle...and I was using about 3/4 of what it would let me use
What do you do differently with a winged keel? Thx
Really just more careful and cautious. We don't want to spin them too hard and minimize the heel when we do pull. If they're really sitting on their keel, we'll wait for a higher tide. Them having to wait out there for a higher tide is less important than making sure we don't break their keel
Non boater here, doesn't it beep somewhere in his boat like the car does when you're about to hit something?
If you have the sonar transducer and instrument installed. The transducer is about $1400, installation requires cutting a hole in the bottom of the hull, so that will be expensive, and the actual glass display which could be 3 or $4000.... Unless you're doing ocean crossings and want to be on the lookout for semi submerged shipping containers, or a commercial fisherman looking for schools of fish, it's much easier and cheaper to just follow a chart and stay in the friggin channel.
@CaptainRon1913 Oh I see, that makes sense to me now...I didn't understand how everyone is hitting bottom on this channel. So they're basically not paying attention. Thanks for the answer
You can set alerts for shallow water, and this guy could definitely use that 😬
Again people who have a lot of money and no sense 😱
Pretty much 😕
Watching him tie you up this guy needs to go back to school before he goes sailing again. He will be back for another tow out soon.
I'm sure he will 😊
My thoughts exactly. He was lubbardly in the tie/untie as well as helming the boat once back in deeper water.
You’d think they’d offer to buy you dinner by now! Did you tag something with your props at 9:12? I thought I heard that cringe worthy sound there…
It was the line jumping over something on their bow
I had to stop watching Ken. You tell him to "pull it in tight" and all he does is ties the line in a knot with a lot of slack left in it. This guy is no sailboat captain, he's an amateur boater who needs 'pro' sailing lessons.
It actually almost worked out...he needed to leave a bit more line and I would've been able to reach the bow cleat 😂
Theses people need a new hobby obviously….
Nah. If they did something else, we'd lose a good source of income 😂
Hadn’t thought of that…suppose you’re right …Hang in . You’re doing a great job out there …
