Nirmala Rajasekar - Wonderfully articulated and answering the questions with so much dexterity, with so much aplomb as you're playing the veena.... Kudos to you for being so eloquent about the current (sad!) state of affairs prevailing/ ailing the field!! Heartiest congratulations. Take a bow 🙏👏👌🙂

A very nice interview . Congratulations to both the interviewer and the artiste being interviewed.I would like to mention here that my aunt and Guru,Smt.Kalpagam Swaminathan always used to say that an artist should always focus on the art,and not bother about accolades or popularity or rewards, and that everything is God's will. She followed that principle in her life, and she was able to practice and perform till her final breath.

Enjoyed the layered Q&A and Lec dem format of interview. Veena in gayika baani of playing really does justice to the diction and melody part of music.

Enjoyed the video nirmala sis, admire and relish your concerts even though I have very little knowledge about music . I mostly choose your Veena concert because it is instrumental and is a treat to my ears and my soul .

Excellent points! Music is beyond language and beyond words! If it sounds good to the listener, if it touches their heart, if it raises a numinous response, it is good music.

Fantastic interview that covered in great depth. The duration was so short and I wish more parts are planned to continue this discussion forward. Every point is so true. My grandmother and my mother used to keep singing Ragas when I was a child. They were not professionals but they had the rasana that unknowingly created an interest in me. Already to listen. This is missing today and it results in seeing diminishing audiences. Carnatic or any form of classical music must be part of the early school curriculum in the respective regions and that alone will keep this great art form gaining more shine. Also it will develop the local identity. Carnatic music should not be seen as a money making profession. This should be proudly taken as a contribution to ones culture. Not necessarily Carnatic. But for any art form that is linked to one's culture. Great vidhushi Kalaimamani Nirmala Rajashekar has done the same by balancing her work, life and art and has succeeded to great heights and also creating great talents through her school. She is one of those who has made our culture and it's beauty so visible in other countries. Hats off to you.

Concert duration is now less. Except ing academy and Krishna gana sabha which have 2.5 hours all sabhas in Chennai 2 hours for senior. JUGAL BANDHIS and FUSION are now in fashion. Even in weddings only fusion is arranged nowadays.

    Namaste ma'am
    You have said everything excellently.
To enjoy the instrumental music one should have good knowledge. And the vocalist can take good sangatis from an instrumentalist.

Music both instrumental and vocal should b maintained like the yesteryear musicians. I am a music teacher. I hve attended many concerts where people could not even sit and music for one hr. Sometimes talking or eating in sabhas. They attend only certain artists. We should attend concerts of youngsters rendition of music and encourage them. It’s very sad that audiences hve the liking of listening to patent songs. This should change.

Music in general has cultural bias. Instrumental music doesn't have language bias. So, vocal music must have superb and sublime content. Instrumental music doesn't have this restriction or pre-condition.
