    What pillow or pillow substitute do you use?

    Wow Ryan your editing is flipping amazing!!! Absolutely love the layout and your voice is captivating. Totally forgot about what you were taking about 🤣. Oh yeah camping pillows, had my Trekology pillow for years now and it’s never failed but I use a baby pillow case on top with my down jacket and anything else I choose to stuff in there. Once again an amazing video buddy look forward to more 👏👏 ATB Lee 👍

      Thanks Lee! I dont think anyone has ever said I have a captivating voice.... so thanks for that :P I think thats a good call with the pillow, adding some extra padding would certainly make it better, I think I just like to have things which do what they are intended for without modification if you know what I mean? I did try the old clothes in a stuff sack method but could never get it right. Thanks for the great feedback, really appreciate it! Ryan

    Great video Ryan, really polished and a good structured delivery. I use a trekology pillow but never find it very comfortable. I sometimes just use my dry bag with my down jacket inside.

      Cheers Paul, yeah I think that see,s to be a common theme, its a great option on a budget and for the money it is definitely better than nothing. I know pillows have been done to death, but, wanted to start out with something a bit more straight forward while testing the new video format, I am going to be reviewing some of my other items of kit over the next few months.

      Thanks Rob! Really great to hear you like them, the editing on this one was a bit of a step up from my usual, but, I am hoping to improve the quality of my videos in the new year. I did not manage to check your videos out last night, manic at home currently, but, it is on my todo list, nothing better than chilling out with a bottle of wine and some good old wild camping videos.
      Happy Christmas!

    That intro man 😮👌 Currently got the aluft with a flannel pillow on top but like the look of the nemo

      Cheers Adam, yeah I am pretty happy with it, tried to make it as short as poss so it did not detract too much, not sure if I will use it on every vid though, we will see. Yeah the aluft is not all bad, i just never really got on with it. But, comfort is so different from person to person. Thanks for watching!

      @@ryanrunningwild I think it's good to add a little memorable tune & intro on your vids myself. I know what you mean its not super comfy

    I use the Trekology one you presented. I agree with your pluses and minuses. To increase the comfort of the Trekology I personally recommend 2 things:
    1) Inflate it at roughly 75% for optimal comfort
    2) Wrap it in a T-shirt or a Buff to get a soft touch

    • @ryanrunningwild
      @ryanrunningwild  2 роки тому +1

      Thats a good shout, especially the slight deflation, I was going to mention that but I completely forgot! Its a shame that it falls short on the comfort side as for the price it is a pretty well designed pillow to be fair, but for that price you have to make some compromises.

    Wife and I have been using the sea to summit aeros last few years. It's as comfortable as an air pillow can be, which is about 50% as comfortable as a proper pillow in my experience.
    I have yesterday decided that sacrificing another 200-odd grams (and a lot of pack of space I reckon) on a Thermarest compressible pillow (small) for £22 quid plus postage might be a goer.

    • @ryanrunningwild
      @ryanrunningwild  2 роки тому

      Cheers Andy, just had a look at the thermarest pillow, certainly looks comfy! I think that getting a good nights sleep is worth the extra weight personally, I would quite happily carry a couple of hundred more grams if it means my neck is not sore all the next day. Let me know how you get on with it!

    Hi Ryan I am going to sew a couple of loops onto this pillow to allow for a strap, good review.

    I've got the aluft 2 and after spending the night on Kings tor last night I've decided after 7 uses that it isn't very comfortable and I used my body warmer instead. Its decent enough for the price though

    • @ryanrunningwild
      @ryanrunningwild  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah I think you are dead right, its not the best / most comfortable pillow going, but, its cheap and better than nothing. I think I have got my monies worth out of it for sure!

      Evening Ceri ( and Kat!) Its horses for courses isnt it? we are all different and will what works for one will not work for the other. I have wanted to do a video on the pillow for a while, and thought a comparison would be a bit different to a standard review. Cheers for watching, and I am glad you enjoyed it!

      I am sure he is quaking in his boots :P Cheers though, I put quite a lot of effort into this one. You are mad, my neck would be ruined if I slept without a pillow lol, but, we are all different eh? Thanks for watching Dean :)

    Hi Ryan thanks for uploading very interesting! this idea of budget verses expensive kit is only an option if you have the money for me and maybe a lot of campers but not all!, gear and it’s cost is relative to what the item is! for me if I can get a £2 pillow or head lamp ect and it’s good for me great I’m performance over form always.!but with somethings like a walking rope or a good pair of boots you have to pay the price. Thanks again subscribed and all the best simon

    • @ryanrunningwild
      @ryanrunningwild  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the input Simon, I know exactly what you mean and budget is quite a subjective term. I was just going to do a review on the Fillo pillow as I know there are already a lot of videos out for the Aluft, so I thought it would be something a little bit different to compare the two as I had them on hand.
      A pillow is not essential, and If asked the question I think my response would be similar to yours in that there are far more important pieces of equipment which you can buy which justify spending the extra cash.
      Glad you liked the video, and thank you for subscribing, it is very much appreciated! ATB, Ryan

    The second time I used it (trekology), it developed a slow leak. Thoroughly disappointed with this purchase.
