Just bought one of the garmin striker 4 vivid. Its my first fish finder and i was scared of using it as I'm a bit of a tech phobe. Its surprisingly easy to use and also backed up with great videos on UA-cam like yours it makes it even easier to use. Many thanks .

So if I'm understanding right, as it's mapping, it will show you depths and possible holes where fish could be?

Any tips on transom mounting, routing the wire or interference from the engine ?
Hey Bruce! Thanks for the praise 🙏
General Transom mounting (should be as close to the center line as possible without interference to the flow of water over your prop.) I normally mount them 1/4” lower than my hull as well.
There are good written instructions for how and where to mount included in the box!
Wondering the same here...My Striker 4 only shows the GPS speed on the Overlay Numbers (upper left corner) at lower speeds
it's more accurate to map at speeds lower than 10mph.
They only work up to about 10 mph.... Worst unit I've ever owned and not having GPS real maps is ridiculous
will this help you get back to where you started if you get lost?
Just wondering how much memory is being "eaten up" when mapping?
Also can you download your contour map from the unit to a computer?? ie print out contour maps later.

I can answer that bc I have one not a lot of memory at all it can hold something like 2million acres something crazy like that and no I can no hook up to computer
that bathymetry map only available on that tiny unit? cannot be move to android or computer?

I believe you can continue “recording” even when you change the view. But let me try it out and get back to you.
I confirmed this weekend, as long as you turn on the quick draw feature prior to switching screens it does record in the background.

Does the unit save the maps created if you disconnect the power. Will they be available next time I visit that lake recorded?
Yes it saves them.
When creating a wpt it shows wrong date, how to adjust to the correct date ?
Can you save the map and name it for future use? If so how do you do that?

You cannot add maps, you record them as you go but there is no means of connection to another device. Yes the maps will be available for use and potentially assist you in locating fishing.
Why does mine only have a green box with yellow background? I never get a formed map?!!

While you are using the quick draw maps will it tell u the depth on the contour lines? I see it tell u the depth in the top right corner but I was curious if it showed the depth on the actual map on the contour lines?
Hey Dillon, great question. I don’t believe the actual line will display the depth. I will mess around with the settings to see if that’s possible.

Yes this is a question you'd think is most important to answer. Why make a video and the most important question is not answered. Will this recorded map be used in your navigation in that area next time you go out!!

Yes and it can record millions of acres of maps that you will have until you delete them yourself.
How many feet to each side of the boat does this unit map. I know you said it depends on the depth. So does that mean if it's 12 ft of water, it maps 12 ft to both sides?
that will depend on your transducer's cone/beam width. The lower the kHz the wider the cone (wider path mapping). However a higher kHz is likely to provide better resolution. And dual beam transducers perhaps provides the best of both.

What happens if you are using this feature on a reservoir where the depth changes with the season, and can change as much as 40 feet,
My understanding is that it recognizes depth/contour changes from trip to trip.
What I'm doing is recording while our lake is full so I don't have record later. Fishing here gets pretty slow during the winter, so I just coast it and enjoy the wildlife while recording the bottom. 🙂

The regular does not have quickdraw maps.
How fast can you drive and still get a good map reading?
It works good for me at Full speed (25-30 mph) when the water is at least 10 ft deep or so.
@@FishingFinAddict that's pretty sweet. I ended up getting the helix 7 MSI gps g3n . Hooked it up yesterday and tried it out. Luckily I have 2 lakes both a mile away from my house. Fishing FinAddict I just figured out , when you buy the cheapest of something, you don’t get all the features. Haha I wish I could load a map in but it’s still a nice little unit for the $100
Got to have the plus4 or plus4 cv. Slightly larger screen and mapping feature with the plus version and CV is the clear view sonar.

In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.
if you dont have power οn the boat, what can you do? Could you charge it from home?Or it needs power all the time?
buy a small 12 volt battery at walmart found in the sports department. you will need a small charger to recharge them. trickle grargers will work. i use mine ice fishing and installed it all in a portable box and mounted the finder on the lid. works great
Run on a battery that will come with mount, wires, charger and transducer if you buy the kit. Otherwise your local baitshop quite possibly will have the battery, they're fairly common. A fully charged battery in good condition should last more than 24 hours even at the highest settings.
You can find them as cheap as 25.00 up to over 100 for lithium. Maybe a solar charger to charge while using it. GL
How do you use the striker to get back to your return point, so you want get lost if you go far out
I’d use the waypoints. Make a waypoint when you launch. You can return to the waypoint.
Add multiple waypoints as you travel to create a route then you can follow waypoints in reverse order. You can name and store this route(s) for future use.

I’ve got the Striker Plus 5CV Unit and the QuickDraw Contours doesn’t seem to work. I start the recording and move at a trolling speed and it never draws any bottom maps. Am I missing something?
Hey Jason, that doesn’t sound familiar to me. I recommend that you contact Garmin directly. You may have a bad cable or transducer unit.

I’m having this issue as well with my new vivid 4+ cv. It’s like there’s no gps connection, it just shows me sitting in one place and doesn’t move.

It's a great little unit. It's crazy what you can see with their "clearvu" technology. But one thing it's lacking is that it doesn't come with maps or the ability to add any. But, if you get a plus model, you have the ability to create your own maps with their Quickdraw Contours feature. For us, since we primarily fish areas we're familiar with, it's been more than enough.

@@cjhoelmolina You cannot upload or download maps or routes with Garmin Striker. You can add waypoints by entering coordinates from Google Maps/Earth though.

Hey there i just got a striker plus 4cv, ibe only used it once but, it wouldnt do the "contours" of the lake as I went over, it was pretty much just a line on a yellow screen of where id been, any ideas??
You need to try different speeds.One guy told me 20 to 25 is max you can go. but there might be different variations to depth and speed. But also if the mapping is green its working but yellow I think your either going to fast or something else causing it to not get a reading properly. Maybe transducer fastened incorrectly too. GL
Is it possible to store and export the created maps to be able to share them with others?
The unit does not have a memory card slot so info can't be saved and shared that way, but according to the Garmin site "You can share data if two compatible devices are connected using the blue and brown wires on the power cable or using the User Data Sharing Cable". I'd check with Garmin for info on this.

So are you telling me I can not use this unit as a regular GPS unit out of the box? no maps or detail are installed on this thing ? I just got one for my work boat and haven't been able to get any charts just a boat in the middle of the yellow screen that does me no good .
Boo Hoo, thanks for watching. This model doesn’t have much fanfare or bells and whistles, which is why the price is more competitive than most units. But the chirp and sonar features are awesome. Hope you find what you’re looking for out there!
Yep. Junk. I just dropped some good money on a unit for my offshore boat and still no map.
It's a GPS with built in contouring map building. No promises are made of pre-loaded maps or the ability to load maps and there are neither.

@@suzuka8235 Just found out no map. I Installed it all the way. The guy at the store said it had what I wanted. I would see the rivers and sand bars just like my old antique one. Should have just bought a used cell phone! Now I'm stuck with this POS and back to my cellphone for maps.
What transducer are you using?
it comes with one already.
Stream Rolling is right. The Striker products come with a transducer. We've got an installation video (linked in this video's description) which shows what comes in the box.
Does the transducer that comes with the unit, allow the flasher system to work? Or do you need a separate ice transducer? Thanks for the video!

The boat transducer does work with the flasher view but you're not getting the same view from the angled boat ducer you will from the coned ice ducer.
I have one and what I need to know is how to navigate. Mainly, if I’m here and I want to get back to this location, how do I do that? On the Garmin in my truck, I just tap on the little car and it will ask if I wanna save this point and then name it, and it will carry me back to that location. How does the Striker do that or will it?
There is a button to drop a marker.
As you are moving keep adding waypoints to create a route which you can then backtrack to where you started. Routes can be named and saved for future use.
Anyone know how to get the map that you’ve drawn off the unit?

Does the speed of the boat effect the accuracy of the recording?
In shallow water and at fast speeds (more than 25 mph) yes it can.
Why does mine give me a pencil thin line regardless of how deep the water is??
It should offer you the ability to zoom.

Got the stricker 4 plus cv. .. i like the clear view but i wish it had a real gps.. i don't like this contour thing,, it reminds me an old computer game i was playing when i was young called .ultima lol
Any i got my striker 4 plus cv for $140. Brand new from someone who got it for free in a fishing tournament. I spent a day fishing and though the river had no fish,,,and only after 6 hours fishing i realized that i did not activate the fish icons.. lol. If i had more money i would probably go with a built in gps one.. not the striker 4.
just bought the striker plus 9 SV... The reseller told me that I could get maps via the Quickdraw Contours community... But can find any way to do it... Since any info keeps talking about a SD card.... It doesn't have a %&¤#%& SD card slot! Can it or no?? Anyone???

Pathetic at best, downloaded a chart from community charts, it was totally inaccurate and could not transfer from my phone to the striker 7cv. The chart showed depths of 20 to 30 feet, when in fact the water was 3 to 12 feet.
