Good to have you back. The warm sun light doesn't always reach the bottom of the canyon but that is where the water flows. May the love of the Lord be upon you during your times of trouble.
Fur lines canteen covers are the best my buddy and I would put cold water into our canteen before Trumping around in the woods in the Texas summer heat the water would always stay cool thanks for bringing back the memory
Glad to do it Paul.. you're right about the cool water.. the insulation in the carrier will keep it cooler than the ambient air temperature for sure..! 🐻
If you keep an esbit type fuel tab in that little side pouch you always have fire to get your twig stove going. Gather a handful of finger thick twigs, light your fuel tab, set the canteen cup with the stove attached over the burning fuel tab and start feeding your twigs into the stove opening at the bottom. Super simple, no need to build a fire to get it going, and it’ll burn as long as you like, with your little fire always safely contained.
Saw you handling the oval artic canteen. The oblong, artic, mug that fits on the bottom of those is a great bit of kit. The shape helps it fit into your pack or pocket if you fancy travelling light.
Those covers do well to cool the canteen also, just pour your boiled water into the canteen, put the cover on and dip it into the river/stream/lake... the evaporative cooling will cool the water inside the canteen quickly.. (at least thats what us jar-heads used to do..!!)
I can't leave no messages with your black bear.Facebook is blocking me behind everything.I can't even give a message to blackie. So I kinda like screwed me, I.Guess my attorney have a nice day

Thanks for the video. Those G.I.cooksets are great. So good i have bought a good number of them. GREAT KIT. Much better than some of that modern stuff.👍👍
@@baileybrunson42 Well I've got the Arctic canteen set also.like new. The canteens are stainless steel. Anders and Frary.
@@baileybrunson42 Thankyou Sir. I constantly care for them and they are my pride and joy. No fancy new stuff today can match this quality of G.I. original surplus kit. 👍👍🇺🇸
Good piece of content here, Bear. The only thing that I would add if I had an Army/Navy store around here would be a couple packs of purification tabs. They might not taste very good, but better than nothing if you cannot, for whatever reason, start a fire. And, the pocket is right there in the pouch, so there’s that. Thanks for sharing!😊
Great video, Bear! I don't yet have a canteen cup or stove; but, I do have a Finnish canteen that I carry in a Dutch canteen pouch. I have a USGI UCP field coat, though. People always ask me about here in Newfoundland, Canada. Love your videos (and Blackie's, too, of course). Hope to see you on the next live!
Bear , Thank You Sir for sharing, I've got two of canteens cup stoves, 4 U.S. canteens, 4 covers . My gear is from late 70s and early 80s and my WEB Gear or LBE Gear . Looking forward to the day I see you on the trail . God Bless Y'all ,You and Mrs. Bear.
First, I would recommend that you get him his own set of basic equipment (build that ark before it starts to rain) if he never uses it you have an extra set.. Thank you for the kind words I enjoy those pictures too.. you ask about the canteens.. I have both plastic and metal canteens, personally they are both really good but I've always been kinda partial to the metal 🤫..! 🐻
Thanks Bear, I love that set up, it's lighter weight than some of the steel canteens and stoves. If you don't have any alice clips for that cover you can lash it down with 550 cord like some of the old school spec ops guys did with their gear.
Thanks bear. I enjoy cooking cheap, gourmet meals in my canteen cook set. Even just practicing on a stump back by our woodshed. It gets me outside for some alone time, even if it is only 80 feet from my house.
You're welcome Scott..! I understand how valuable that alone time can be (even if it's only 80' away).. even if it's just a few minutes to allow you to decompress..! 🐻
Where are you from James..? Blackie has a Fall and Spring Gathering at the Geneva State Forest every year.. the Fall event is in two weeks. There are already plans coming together for a visit to Kaufman's..! 🐻
Hi Bear, very nice! I have the Nalgene canteen also. I have both styles of the canteen cups too. What bums me out though, my cup with the butterfly handles doesn't lock. Unless I'm doing something wrong? I bought it at a surplus store and it's genuine surplus. I set it away and I have to find it again and play around with it some more to see if I can get those butterfly handles to lock. Or maybe I need to get a new one. I know Blackie did some videos on the Alice pack. Don't know if you've ever used one, medium or large? I can't seem to ever get enough of those videos. I have both sizes. And have spent quite a few years trying to get my medium Alice dialed in to where it's not too heavy, but at least able to do more than one day out in the woods. I don't do hammocks so I've been on the never ending quest of finding a lightweight tent that isn't some obnoxious color. About a year or so ago, I bought one of those French military tents, this one actually had the zip up screen walls also. Haven't tried it out yet, have only set it up in the backyard to see how it sets up and to make sure everything was good on it. I still have to seam seal it real good before I actually use it. Take care and try and stay cool in this scorcher of a summer. 👍🏻👍🏻
Jeff, when you find your cup bring the handles back till they touch. You'll see that they are slightly offset. Continuing pinching and you'll hear the "click" when they engage.. I think my pack is a large but I'll have to check and see.. thank you for watching..! 🐻
I have an identical canteen cover. Just wondering where a soldier might put it on there pack or harness. Because the snaps are not the easiest to resnap you pretty much have to come to a complete stop and use both hands to resnap it. In a military situation seams like it could be hazardous to your health. I have ended up tieing a rope through cap holder and leave it unsnapped.
Bear, can you do a video on a fresh water fishing kit that works around South Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana ? I'm transitioning from Ozarks creeks/waterways to south Mississippi and fish don't seem to like rooster tails or the kit I have at hand. Thanks! good canteen video

@@baileybrunson42 yessir! At just 26 years young I feel like I'm one of very few from my generation clinging to a dying art in the cast iron cookin I was raised on. All this new fancy stuff they're coming out with will never hold a candle to some well kept cast iron and I have a few pieces to prove so that have been feeding my bloodline since back before the Great Depression.
