Thank you. I am in similar situation as yourself. I try to be a lay Preacher in my local circuit and live a Christ centred life but modern family and culture grips my focus and attention like a prowling lion. So I know I must be patient in all I do. And know that I can find Christ in all and everything I encounter. 🙏
Wonderful. I am a Christian mystic. I don't try to be. Just it seems God's always with me and sometimes breaks the rules for me. You know . Miracles. I just want him with me always. And here he is.
Just circled back to your channel after finding it last summer - If you have a reading list of the texts that have aided you the most on the mystical journey, such as ancient primary sources, insightful secondary sources, etc., that would be awesome!!!
Far in a wild, unknown to public view, From youth to age a rev'rend hermit grew; The moss his bed, the cave his humble cell, His food the fruits, his drink the crystal well: Remote from man, with God he pass'd the days, Pray'r all his bus'ness, all his pleasure praise.
For being someone educated in the Bible and assumed theology. I’m genuinely shocked you are a Protestant mystic and haven’t gone down the Eastern Orthodox mysticism route. Especially if you read the desert fathers like St. Anthony who was literally beaten by demons
Christ is THE Christian high priest/mystic. There is plenty of "mysteries" to ponder over in the gospels. Most people overlook them every single day. But they are there hidden in plain sight. Look and you will find them Once you find a mystery, let the pondering begin.
I believe it’s all about true humility before the Lord, and in the past, and particularly we see many of these mystics, truly humble, not wanting attention upon themselves, but to study the ways of God, and his word to get closer to him four obedience to his will Manny today are trying to seek after special knowledge to put themselves in a higher position and this is a very vain enterprise, Solomon, sad, seeking after knowledge puffs up a persons, ego or self so when we look at mystics today, we have to weed out the ones who are real, and the ones that are self glorifying much like today’s society wants to claim victimhood because they believe that will give them a moral high ground, but it is Vanity. I see many of these “mistakes either trying to look like John the Baptist in a very disheveled way, or others who grow long beards, but you notice they are dying parts of their beards because they’re vain. it is obvious there are too many self-righteous people trying to present themselves as mistakes. There are real mystics there has been. But you have to be aware of the charlatans. The Lord is very aware of them, and he will expose them to those who are genuinely seeking God’s well. This is why Christians need to get an education on gnosticism one of the greatest heresies. There was even found with the Pharisees, trying to claim they were. More knowledgeable when in fact, they were seeking for knowledge to use it as a weapon. This, you must be careful of.
As far as the path: I would point to Therese of the Child Jesus, and the Holy Face(Number 6.24?). Of Lisieux. Her little way is the path we can see. I wonder, having read Thomas Merton's book as well - the Mystic becomes such: when their practice becomes their very essence. Kenosis? Community of Friends - Ecclesia and koinonia...
From my understanding of christianity it would be very hard to delve into great depth of mysticism, to me its a religion that bunds up spirituality with the fear that is induced so as to stop people from straying from a fairly narrow path of spirituality.
The true mystics neither resisted nor disregarded the authority of the Church or of the state, as Scripture clearly commands us to submit to both. Moreover, in the early Church, mysticism and the hierarchical Church were often intimately intertwined, as the great bishops were often the holiest of saints, like Athanasius, Augustine, and Chrysostom. Anthony left the desert at one point to go defend the Church against heresy.
I don't think I'll ever understand the need/desire for Jesus or Christianity (religion in general). To me, it seems the goal or focus would/should be on Henosis, Oneness with the Divine Source/GOD. Basically the raindrop falling back into The Ocean, where all of us raindrops originated. From GOD we came, to GOD we return. Clean and simple.
to think that Christianity is the only way, especially christian mysticism , well quite obviously this must be recognised for what it is, it is dogmatism, and a belief of supremacy. If you believe these then you are shortchanging yourself. Every religion is within God, buddhism has the most direct teachings, it is very similar to the gnostics. Advaita Vedanta also very direct teaching, the western churches were created as businesses, the truth isn't taught by the churches. The experiences had by christian mystics were not a result of the direct teachings of the churches, the mystics pushed there mind in a way that enabled union with god but it wasn't taught, whereas the buddha and advaita vedanta teach directly how to experience that unity...."Unity", there is only one unity, and belief you are superior to other "religions" is creating separation, which is not unity. My first mystical experience of unity I was age 11, I was from a western atheist family, but my family believed in doing the right thing, ethical and respectful of others, not I am superior, or others are inferior. God isn't in a church, the church along with all space and time is within God...... Do you understand ? Until it is your direct knowledge you don't know, knowing is a result of direct knowledge, you currently believe in hearsay.
Putting buddhism and Vedanta on a pedestal above what you call "western religions" and dismissing the latter as "businesses" might make you feel superior, but really it just reflects a orientalist western ignorance of how eastern religions have functioned throughout history.
@@360.Tapestry Yes, I did feel it was a bit harsh but the topic is important and the most hated person is the one who speaks the truth. Understand, it is the ego that puts up a barrier, it is also the same ego that prevents unity. Dropping this ego (at a very deep level) is what Jesus was talking about when he said "be still and know I Am God".... "Be Still" is the stillness that enables absorption into unity with God..... I'm not just repeating something I read somewhere. Good on you for engaging, it's an opportunity to understand. The ignorant think they know and will not engage with something that contradicts there dogma.
Thank you for this most beautiful talk. Please guide me to the group of friends ... the friends of the Mystics because I too want to belong.

You have no idea how much I needed to hear this, no idea ❤❤
Excellent definition of Mysticism. I always point to the Title of the work by Brother Lawrence. Practicing the presence of God.
Look up the article about prelest on OrthodoxWiki.
You explained to me the kind of Christian I was when I decided to be a Christian as a teen; the one I always wanted to describe myself as.
So many beautiful seeds to sow...thank you
Thank You…🌞
Thank you 💞🙏😊
Brother I love your content. It is exactly what I was looking for. I'll play so that your channel explodes. God bless ☦️

The most profound mystics are regular householders. It is the highest skill to maintain a practice while living in the world.
Amen

Can I get some good book recommendations here in the comments? 🙏🏼🙏🏼 I have a deep calling to ancient Christianity

Thomas Merton was deluded as he mixed Zen Buddhism with Roman Catholicism.

All those saints are Orthodox ☦️
They did disregard the authority of the state when it went against the commandments of Christ but otherwise they generally submitted to it.

Why religion?
What are some Christian mystics he’s talking about?
