  • The Sewing Machine Collection & Singer Archive cared for by West Dunbartonshire Council becomes Scotland's 39th Recognised Collection of National Significance.
It is the largest publicly accessible collection of its kind in Europe with machines from 130 different manufacturers from Europe, America and Asia that document the development of this technology over nearly 100 years. It also documents the workings of the Singer factory at Clydebank providing a unique picture of the area's industrial links and the social history of the people who worked at Singer's.
Managed by Museums Galleries Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Government, the Recognition Scheme ensure Scotland's most important collections are identified, cared for, protected and promoted to wider audiences.
