    6.2 owner here, keep a close eye on your harmonic balencer, they give out over time and wreck your crank if you're not careful. The humvees have upgraded cooling fans you can bolt on for extra cooling and it does help tremendously, make sure your starter has a supporting bracket or your block will crack. The fuel filters for those engines kinda suck so don't be afraid to swap em for a conventional style filter. Electric lift pump wakes the engine up and makes it easier to start. Hope this helped!

    I hope you cantilevered the bed mounts in some way to help add support to the frame, a wheel lift hanging off the back WILL cause the frame to bow & bend right above the rear axle. I had to remove my bed/tanks & add C-channel welded to the inside of the frame for reinforcement. I've got a 19.5 tire/wheel package, a spring pack made with 2 semi-truck leaves & 3-leaf overloads. I doubt (and absolutely don't recommend) you'll be using yours like I have in my pic but yes, that is an actual 15' U-Haul truck. I've also pulled 20 footers with it in the past on occasion but for very short distance, truck pulls them like a dream due to the extra-long wheelbase. When I was first branching out into towing for U-Haul, it was all I had but I don't use my rig like that anymore, finally able to afford an MD & actually do it right.
    Get yourself a $200 TowMate off FleaBay & you'll have wireless lights. GREAT looking old truck, let's keep this old iron moving while we have fun watching the newer stuff fall apart! 🤣

    Not for hire great job on the Dooley….. couple of things your strobe light I think you have to register that with the town… as for your remote they also make a wireless remote that might adapt to your lift… I used to run a UD car hauler in a junkyard and it was a remote handheld man was a great… other thing is for hauling junk cars and moving them you might want to check into a transit plate from the state of Connecticut…… because you don’t have a junkyard or repair facility for a plate….Also if you go over think it’s 10,050 pounds you need US DOT numbers and the name on the door and a MED CARD. IF YOU WEAR GLASSES. YOU MUST CARRY EXTRA PAIR WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES …. I go with magnetic signs and run it that way that’s what I used to do good luck with things love the video junkman

    • @OnusofStrife
      @OnusofStrife 2 роки тому

      If he is Intrastate he doesn't need DOT until you hit 18k per CT regulations. He'll probably be pretty close with a car on the back but hard to say without knowing the trucks gvwr.

    I had a 79 GMC 1ton with a Holmes 440 out back. I added the same type of wheel lift to it but I also had extra springs added to the rear for added support. The wheel lift was awesome. I added an adapter that slid onto the lift so I could tow my bass boat to the lake. When I got the boat trailer tires a foot or two into the water I would stop and extend the lift pushing the boat into the water. Then I would walk on the lift to get in the boat and never get my feet wet. Made it easier to load the boat too. That wheel lift was the best thing I ever did to that wrecker.

    as far as the wheel lift drooping look into -theres a hydraulic valve that free flows when you are running it and locks the hydraulic fluid when you stop. It'll keep it from moving. Also as others have said, always keep the engine running while youre running it, I've been left stranded a few times back in the day that way. Good luck👍

  • @angryyank

    When running pickle forks you only need to use a good set of tire straps to have it secured well... Then go to your DOT & take the tow truck operator tests, pass them and use the truck as a repo truck.... Then you can also do a few tows alongside it for some good mooolah.. Also I wouldn't recommend runnin the pickle forks directly off of the battery... I was taught to run them with the engine running.... It works directly off the battery BUT doing so can easily overheat & put extra load on the circuit & batteries... Then it can risk a chance of blowing a cell and killin the batteries.....

    Watch your oil pans with that setup. There is no tilt on a WL300 so carry a couple of 4x4s to put under the tires so you can get a little extra squeeze on the L arms. That will also be helpful on unloading on slanted ground.

    Nice square body crew wrecker layout. The 6.2L Detroit V8 just adds to it's awesome value. I'm curious if when you did the row bar or flatbed, did you consider long-term using Raptor coat or bed liner for rust resistance? Even in the side toolbox interior that would solve potential rust issues. Like the layout though. I'd add some additional rear LED flood lights for backing up and additional for service work to see your vehicle hooked into after dark. One can never have too many lights after dark. Maybe also add-on a spare tire mount up against the headache rack by the cab, too. Awesome truck though, as these vintage square body trucks are definitely better for tow truck conversion due the multitude of available parts out there and their lower cost to insure & register yearly. 👍👍
