The 49ers were punching the ball out of Irvin and Emmet's hands to create turn overs and creating miss matches everywhere. They had a game plan to win and the Cowboys just played catch up. Jimmy Johnson would have prepared for that game a month out and studied that 49er team like his life depended on it. He actually would have noticed it was a stronger team and that it had to be prepared for meticulously. Read his book and how hard he prepared for dangerous opponents and how he drove the danger into his player's minds for weeks before hand. He studied teams like a general and worked out every little advantage he could squeeze and every strength of the opponent that he could nullify. There is no substitute for top class coaching and the 49ers had it to go with their new strong team and the Cowboys didn't. What did rank amateur Jerry Jones get out of the defeat? All he got was we need to draft Dion, we need to draft the shiny star. Jimmy Johnson the professional got rid of a star... Herschel Walker... to get the resources to build a tea. A team which he then coached at a great level. Jerry, in the age of the salary cap already trying to pull his team apart spent his resources on a star to solve his big game problems. Incredible. Just such a blind dumb amateur. The 49ers came to Texas Stadium the next season in Nov 95 with surprise surprise a coach and a plan and just won again. Jerry's expensive new star didn't make one shit bit of difference. In fact if anything it was worse. Something you thought was made brutally obvious in the NFC game of Jan 95 at Candlestick. But Jerry just couldn't coach his way out of a wet paper bag. If they had kept Jimmy they would have had a genuine fighting chance against the 49ers in that NFC game, a real chance provided by a real coach and a professional game plan tailored to beat an intensely examined and totally appreciated opponent. Three in a row would actually have been possible. Not easy. But genuinely possible. Thanks Jerry for being a glory hunting dumbshit.
Great comment. I always thought coaching defincencies were what nearly cost them the super bowl against Pittsburgh as well. There was no way in hell that game should have got anywhere near that close. Winning in spite of the coaching, indeed.
Every Cowboy player from Moose, to Woody, to even Troy Aikman said they won in 94 and 95 on just talent alone . The Cowboys always knew they were better than the Packers and between 93 to 96 at Texas Stadium that proved to be the case. The 49ers achilles heel would be the Packers in 95 to 97. Still I really think the death knell for the Cowboys was when Jay Novacek and Charles Haley didn't play in 96 due to back injuries. Both would retire from the Cowboys and without Jay Novacek's down the middle or intermediate pass plays the Cowboys looked lost on offense. Kevin Williams was no second receiver. He just disappeared that 96 season and Alvin Harper was a bust in Tampa who we could have used in 95 and 96. Charles Haley was the heart of that defense and without him you could see the defense giving up more big plays. Still I believe the game that teams realized the Cowboys were not the same old dominant team was the third game against the Colts. They were 21-3 and they let the Colts come back. A Jimmy Johnson led team would have never given up a double digit lead and yet after a missed field goal at the end of the game that hit the crossbar by the Cowboys, I knew this team didn't have the talent to make it back.
It's interesting to note that Barry Switzer holds the NFL record for most playoff wins (e.g., 5 playoff wins) by a head coach in their first 3 seasons on the job. From 1994-1996, Switzer's Cowboys were 34-14 in the regular season, 5-2 in the playoffs, they appeared in 2 NFC Championship Games, and they won Super Bowl 30. That win resulted in the Cowboys becoming the first team to win 3 Super Bowls in 4 years. If you add the fact that Switzer won a National Collegiate championship as an assistant coach and 3 National Collegiate championships as a head coach, one could argue that Switzer is one of the greatest football coaches of the 20th century.
Agree. He was put in replacing a coach that brought in the talent responsible for the turnaround and since the dynasty fell on his watch, he takes all the blame. What people don't get is that free agency and the salary cap which was the killer kicked in around 95 so even Jimmy would've been hard pressed to keep the team at the level it was. As the talent aged, some of it like Aikman, Emmit, Irvin among others was simply irreplaceable, some of the top talents of all time.
@@clickman443 I agree. The 1992 Cowboys were the last team to win a Super Bowl without free agency and the salary cap. Jimmy's 1993 Cowboys had to deal with free agency, but not the salary cap. Barry's 1994-1997 Cowboys had to deal with both free agency and the salary cap. The salary cap was the main reason why Jimmy's 1996-1999 Dolphins didn't come close to matching the success of Johnson's 1991-1993 Cowboys.

A lot of things went right for SF in that NFCC game of 94, a few plays and the Cowboys weren't playing catch up. The 94 NFCC was the Super Bowl that year.
What people miss about the 1994 Dallas Cowboys was the fact that for most of the year, the players were injured. Going into the playoffs they were better. But some still had some nagging injuries. Emmitt Smith pulled his hamstring against the Packers in the Divisional Round and while he got 2 touchdowns against the 49ers, it still wasn't enough. Jimmy or Barry coaching the team, you can't simply go all the way to win the Super Bowl with an injury riddled team.
Michael Irvin have said many times that once Jimmy left they were less sharper and a less disciplined team. The practices were no longer tough, a lot of players were no longer getting in shape, lots of the players were having off-field problems like drug use. Barry Switzer was not qualified to be coaching the Cowboys, the Cowboys had the worst head coach in the NFL at that time. They went 12-4 with the worst head coach in the NFL. If Jimmy was coaching the 94 team, they probably would have went 15-1.
What is conveniently forgotten by football "experts" and most Cowboy fans is that of the Cowboys 4 juggernaut squads (e.g., 1992-1995), the 1995 Cowboys scored more points, gave up the least number of sacks, committed the least number of penalties (e.g., so much for the lack of discipline claim), won more games by double digits, the O-Line had the most combined Pro Bowl appearances (e.g., 29 Pro Bowls) in NFL history, and they had the most Hall of Famers... 1992 (4), 1993 (4), 1994 (5), 1995 (6). The weird thing is that the 1995 Cowboys were 6-1 without Deion and 6-3 with him. Fortunately, Deion took his game to another level in the 1995 playoffs.
the o line had one hof player, larry allen. your statement is all over the place. the very first super bowl winners, the green bay packers had 11 hof players, 2 on the o line, jerry kramer and forrest gregg and a hof head coach. also, in 95 dallas had 695 penalty yards on 90 penalties, in 92 they had 650 in yards on 91 penalties,
@@joeblow6100 You're clearly a proponent of accepting the better and ignoring the bitter. The 60's Packers NEVER fielded an OL that had 29 combined Pro Bowl appearances. This "one hot player" reference doesn't address the undeniable fact that no team in NFL history has fielded as many Pro Bowl offensive lineman as the 1995 Dallas Cowboys. Last time I checked, none of the "other" greatest offensive lines (e.g., 71-73 Dolphins, 1975-1977 Raiders, 1982-1984 Redskins) in NFL history had 5 players that made at least 2 Pro Bowls. You also ignore the viable argument that if it wasn't for his 1994 car accident, Erik Williams would currently be in the Pro Football Hall Of Fame.
@@pjtheory Well like I said the Packers had two offensive lineman that made the Hall of Fame and the Cowboys team had one. So I don’t know what makes them that great. They should have won 4 straight. Thanks Barry, for that chest bump to the ref at a crucial time against the niners in the NFC championship, costing us a 15 yd penalty after getting into the red zone.

This America's Team presentation is a freakin' mess. The Cowboys were 10-2 after defeating the Chiefs on Thanksgiving, yet they state that the Cowboys were 9-2 after that victory. They spend a decent amount of time covering the 4th and a foot regular season loss against the Eagles, but make a bizarre editing choice by deciding that this would be the ONLY America's Game program to not cover a team's Divisional Round Playoff victory. The Cowboys 30-11 victory over the Eagles in the Divisional Playoffs is included in the America's Game DVD extras, but it is a hollow inclusion when considering the time spent on the 4th and a foot game in Philadelphia.
The curse of jimmy johnson my fellow cowboys fans we suffer another season with an early playoff exit different year same results don’t matter who’s the coach players only thing that stays the same is the owner with the biggest ego in sports history that ran a back 2 back super bowl winning coach we only won in 95 because didn’t matter who was coaching Jimmy’s team it was loaded!! It’s not an coincidence that when jimmy players got old the playoff success stopped and we can’t even sniff the nfc championship game let alone the super bowl the curse of the football gods is on cowboys won’t win another super bowl until jerry and his sons are long gone I guess when their great grandchildren are running the cowboys we mite win another super bowl im hope & pray they sell the cowboys which I don’t think it’ll ever happen
Jones at his best can only build a good roster, not a Superbowl roster. He even today still wants to win his way, even though he knows his way never worked
You can't say Barry did a bad job. Y'all needed lousy officiating to win that 94 title game. Blatant pass interference on Deion with 6 minutes left that would've put the ball at the 6. Is there any doubt we come back to win that game if we score on that drive?
People don't get it.. Jimmy Johnson wanted out. As the NFL knew the Cowboys would win 5 more Super Bowls. Before the other teams caught up...Why they started the Salary Cap..The NFL wanted Parity. So Jimmy Johnson seen an opportunity in Miami. Where he liked boats. So the Miami Dolphins come knocking...Just how it was. As teams replaced coaches every other 3 years... But the NFC East has won more Super Bowls..Then any other...
@12:23, they said he never was the same after his accident in 1994. However, he was a first team all pro in 95 and 96, he made the pro bowl in 96, 97 and 99. It sounds like the car accident didn't slow him down at all lol
After losing to the 49ers in the middle of 1995, the game we were at with Rob Vigerzi. Jerry signed his deal with the devil. His price. Win this SB but forever after, every big game will be 1994 at SF and 1995 SF at Dal, for every big game after... Down 0-21, 8 minutes inro the first. Game over before it started as big favorites Goin in. Bezelbob paid his end with the Larry Brown TD's. Jerry thought he was smarter and could beat the devil like Charlie Daniel's, but that's a song.
He signed it after the 4-1 play in Philly. We were shook. He signs his deal after that game. Devl pays off with that unexpected SF loss the last week. We win now in AZ and we are #1 seed. Listen to Rich D, we got on the plane as one team and a different when we landed.
That day marked the official beginning of the end for this storied franchise. Twenty-six years later, they are an absolute laughing stock and the league punching bag. And the owner, who everyone thought was hell-bent on winning, is perfectly content with his $8 billion dollar jackpot. R.I.P Dallas Cowboys.
As a 52 year old who has never coached a game of Football, this team convinces me that if I get that collection of talent I can win a Superbowl... What a used car salesman Barry Switzer is/was.... Even at Oklahoma he paid players more, and sold them on himself better than other coaches, and that's why they won, better players on the best steroids until my Canes kicked their asses in 86 and the 87 championship game.
Jerry is the only person who hasn't been replaced so the problem stayed in place and is still in place in 2024 the Cowboys are 3-3 and we know the season is over. Jerry said he was all in I don't think Jerry knows what all in is. Jerry needs to step down and let Troy do what John Elway did for the Broncos but Jerry Jones ego is still stuck in the 90s he still wants to win a superbowl without Jimmy's players. Sad what Jerry Jones has done to us Cowboy fans just so he can stroke his ego thanks for fucking up my high school time and my kids lives watching the shit we had to watch the last 30 years
The irony of Jimmy Johnson was once he got his second chance with the Dolphins they were only decent, nowhere close to great. As much as he prepared for opponents he wasn’t good enough a coach to win a division in his four years in Miami
Can you all imagined if Jerry never made that "500 other coaches" comment and Jimmy would stayed and won the 3rd straight Super Bowl, Jerry's ego would've gotten even bigger! After reading Swagger, I would go as far as to say that Jimmy didn't want to give Jerry the satisfaction of winning a 3rd straight Super Bowl after that "500 other coaches" comment.
Unfortunately this is the last time we won the Superbowl last time we won the NFC championship and getting to play in the NFC championship game 26 years later we have won nothing damn
Jerry Jones wanted to prove that anyone, and I mean anyone, could coach the Cowboys to a World Championship with that roster. So what does he do? He hires Barry Switzer.
I hear people say Steelers were the better team,if so they would have won so stop that crap. Cowboys won end of story. If Neil O'Donnell had thrown the game Bill Cowher and the rest of the team would have made Neil disappear jimmy Hoffa style. Just think if Jimmy Johnson had coached that game, game would have been over in the first half.

True, Erik Williams car accident sure didn't help either
Barry wasn't as bad as people thought 🤔
the o line had one hof player, larry allen. your statement is all over the place. the very first super bowl winners, the green bay packers had 11 hof players, 2 on the o line, jerry kramer and forrest gregg and a hof head coach. also, in 95 dallas had 695 penalty yards on 90 penalties, in 92 they had 650 in yards on 91 penalties,
@@joeblow6100 You're clearly a proponent of accepting the better and ignoring the bitter.
Also that packer o line had 14 all pro seasons combined. Your cowboys line had 10 combined. Last I checked all pro means your are the best in the league not just your conference. 🎤⬇️
They should have won 4 straight. Thanks Barry, for that chest bump to the ref at a crucial time against the niners in the NFC championship, costing us a 15 yd penalty after getting into the red zone.
The last time the cowboys won the Super Bowl I was like 4 or 5 They need to win it this year we've waited long enough
Irvin and Bill Bates were the only two players who were Cowboys with Tom Landry as far as I can remember and I was a Cowboys fan since the ice bowl in Green Bay
Jim Jeffcoat and Ken Norton Jr. as well.
Mark Tuinei and Nate Newton both played for Landry
The first Super Bowl I ever watched.
I love how people are surprised Jimmy Johnson walked away on top with a loaded team, after he did the same exact thing with the Miami Hurricanes.
This attitude of jerry is why we haven’t gone back Garrett and now McCarthy
Still can’t believe Deion got away with the most blatant pass interference in the 94 NFC Championship game.
Still can’t believe the Cowboys turned the ball over on their first three possessions giving the 49ers 21 points in eight minutes.
@@liberalmadness7248 irrelevant attempt at redirecting the worst pass interference miss in nfl history. Oh well, I take solace in SF city being the biggest crime ridden dumpster fire in North America. 🖕🏻
You still can't believe it? Have you watched any of the other title games since then like rams vs saints a couple years ago and colts vs Patriots in 04? Refs swallow the whistle on those plays, like it or not
@@clickman443you ain’t lying lol. That saints game was crazy but watching the Colts WRs get absolutely man handled was one of the craziest championship games I can remember. It was all game long too! Just throwing them around 😂. I’m sure Patriots fans loved it but as a Cowboys fan it made me feel not so bad about the 94 no call.
@@mclohan that saints no call was probably the worst and even crazier, it was in their building. I always wondered if that referee crew needed a security escort out of the building.
Wow I completely forgot about that commercial.
“15 - 20 million?…. BOTH” 😂
That change Jerry Jones made back then, is the reason a lot of fans haven't forgiven him till this day.
The Landry firing or Johnson firing
@@wq113ca _ The Johnson firing.
Barry Switzer had a job to do and he did it Baybee
3 playoff wins in 25 seasons
I said the same thing…..
Jerry Jones didn't like the rumors that Jimmy Johnson could be the first coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars who were awarded a team in November 1993
Jerry is the problem now! Although he made good decisions this year!
Jones at his best can only build a good roster, not a Superbowl roster. He even today still wants to win his way, even though he knows his way never worked
I'm the greatest Dallas Cowboys football player of all time
This was the football equivalent of Too Big To Fail
15:18 Deion hadn’t been on the Yankees for years.
Can’t believe John Blake said that about Troy
Jerry Jones wanted to be the coach sooo bad he could taste it!
54:03 Marissa Tomei in the stands! Lol
Johnson leaving adds more to his legend than beating Superbowl patsy Buffalo twice. He gets credit for two Superbowls he didn't win, 29 and 30.
Barry Switzer looks like Brian Bosworth father
As a 49er fan, I want to say thank you Jerry Jones for making the biggest bone 🍖🦴 headed decision in the history of football!!! 😅😊😂
Jerry got 3 super bowls and whooped y'all ass to do it, he isn't worried about that 😂
Two ☝️ words ever Cow🐮 Boy👦 fan remembers…
“…The Catch!!!”
You can't say Barry did a bad job. Y'all needed lousy officiating to win that 94 title game. Blatant pass interference on Deion with 6 minutes left that would've put the ball at the 6. Is there any doubt we come back to win that game if we score on that drive?
Lol, y'all haven't won a Superbowl since 1994. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@real.mir_ LOL…
We about to win a 6th SB, plus we just STOMPED the cowboys this year and beat them 3 straight times.
No chance they would've won 5 more super bowls. The stars were falling out of their primes by 96 lol
@12:23, they said he never was the same after his accident in 1994. However, he was a first team all pro in 95 and 96, he made the pro bowl in 96, 97 and 99. It sounds like the car accident didn't slow him down at all lol
The reason Barry Switzer won a Super Bowl in the 1995 NFL season is that he won it with Jimmy Johnson players and this is coming from a Cowboys fan
But every big game forever on will he "The December from Hell" coincidentally called...
Rip Larry Allen
That day marked the official beginning of the end for this storied franchise. Twenty-six years later, they are an absolute laughing stock and the league punching bag. And the owner, who everyone thought was hell-bent on winning, is perfectly content with his $8 billion dollar jackpot. R.I.P Dallas Cowboys.
Jan. 2023 Shockingly , it just got worse😢😢 So sad to see what has become of this storied franchise.
Swizer that's was good coach of Dallas cowboys and won 1996 super bowl against Pittsburgh Steelers wallieb26 's team a year later he left.
Moose was 💯 percent correct!
Switzer could’ve looked like a hero but hi ego was as big as Jerry’s.
Hero? We got lucky. Would of lost to niners had they made the title game and should of lost to a way less talented steelers team
Didn't have the team. Just marino
Yeah, he struck gold getting the talent he got with Dallas. He was a great coach but that kind of talent was irreplaceable
Actually Marino was the real problem. They shouldn’t have kept Marino as long as they did
Jones was ahh!- meddler back then. Today still is 28 years.
Of we're going back to the Super Bowl
Can you all imagined if Jerry never made that "500 other coaches" comment and Jimmy would stayed and won the 3rd straight Super Bowl, Jerry's ego would've gotten even bigger! After reading Swagger, I would go as far as to say that Jimmy didn't want to give Jerry the satisfaction of winning a 3rd straight Super Bowl after that "500 other coaches" comment.
36:41 cue Hans Zimmers pirates music

Switzer won with Jimmy's guys and jerry fucking ruined it for us cowboy fans..........
Unfortunately this is the last time we won the Superbowl last time we won the NFC championship and getting to play in the NFC championship game 26 years later we have won nothing damn

The curse continues in 2022
Update it continues in 2023
That second play of the game no one touched emmitt Smith lol they won in the trenches ..
The original Mike Mccarthy 😆 🤣 😂
Yeah Jerry you haven't won since the 95 season maybe you should stop meddling and let someone take over and maybe you can save the 23 season
Didn't Rick get metood recently
Jerry Jones wanted to prove that anyone, and I mean anyone, could coach the Cowboys to a World Championship with that roster. So what does he do? He hires Barry Switzer.
I hear people say Steelers were the better team,if so they would have won so stop that crap. Cowboys won end of story. If Neil O'Donnell had thrown the game Bill Cowher and the rest of the team would have made Neil disappear jimmy Hoffa style. Just think if Jimmy Johnson had coached that game, game would have been over in the first half.
What coach wouldn’t want this job. , Johnson built it and it was Johnson’s Super Bowl don’t know how Switzer could take credit
well I'm a bucs fan and that's like everyone saying Gruden won it with Dungy's team? Well then why didn't Dungy win it with Dungy's team then? Switzer and Gruden still had to coach their teams and motivate their players right?
@@anthonys3631 that’s an easy one to answer Gruden was a much better coach and he made a lot of changes on and off the field : additions etc . That was Gruden’s team 100% . Gruden also had the raiders in the SB but cheating system supporting Brady came up with a tuck rule to cheat there way in .
I NEVER APPRECIATED THE WAY JERRY SNATCHED THE TROPHY FROM BARRY. He only hired him b'cuz he knew he would be a puppet, or a better description. A skeleton coach.
He did same to Jimmy after they won in Atlanta in 93. Jerry Jones' ego knows no bounds.
Jerry's ego is what started the Cowboys decline! Jerry nor his son will NEVER win another Superbowl! I hope I'm wrong but I don't see it.😥

Cowboys win 4 or 5 super bowls with Jimmy Johnson maybe more but in classic Jerry jones fashion what could go wrong did go wrong now it’s been 28 years since theyve been back to even an NFC championship Jerry has basically been hiring a bunch of Barry Switzers since Jimmy and that’s why they’re not winning
Switzer was a complete bozo.
Even Aikman did not like Barry. Worst owner ever stupid that he needs the light and not allowing the coach to do it.
If anyone i wins tree out of four Superbowls they will be standing behind the 8-ball. The media will do it's best to eat you alive. Let's go stick it in their face. Do it all again My Cowboys!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jimmy Johnson maybe could've become Bill Belichick BEFORE Bill Belichick.
Was just thinking this. Jerry gets out of the way and maybe Dallas wins 7-8 trophies.
@@NateMegOfficial He also could've got Dan Marino a ring in Miami since he built an easily good enough Defense there but I remember they could never get a good running game going.

This narrative is fallible. "Deion covering Irvin in 94 NFC Title game was a big reason Dallas lost" NO WAY. 12/192/2 Irvin numbers.
But most of those catches was not with deion coveting him. He only caught 4 passes on deion. But blatantly was interfered with in the 4th
