    !DISCLAIMER! - VAS Extreme Crosshair and MENACE Picopatch were bought regular, the other antennas I got from the companies some time ago. I DONT use affiliation links - I'm not a sales guy, here you get HONEST reviews and opinions.
    My motivation for this video was, to get an idea which of these fancy directional antennas really performs best for me. I usually carry a bag of antennas and always go back and forth between them - I want a default setup that gives me the best possible results!
    On my first tests I just flew my little Speedy behind some trees. Results were ok but not 100% conclusive. I wanted to see it better - have a more direct comparison. So I used the GPS position hovering old BlackSnapper (with Naza on it :) and flew behind another patch of trees with just 25mw vtx on it.
    On the receiver I had 2 antennas, 2 receivers and 2 screens - filmed with cam - so that's a true SBS comparison :)
    Watch the comparison and find out for yourself what image quality you think is best. Let me know in the comments of course!

    I use to swap out all the time in the beginning like 3 years ago now. But i had a crappy box goggle and it didn't matter much what I used. I finally got me some Aomway commander v1 and the sensitivity was night and day! Soon need to upgrade even those maybe the sky zone with the oleds now i run a pico patch and a foxeer lollipop 2 and that combo had worked great for me. Maybe ill upgrade those eventually. I also really like pagoda antenna as well. Love your videos man loyal subscriber

    Part of the benefit to the crosshair is how it rejects multipathing and gathers in a correct signal. Patches will quickly fail in these environments, this also includes mountains.

    A lot of long range guys recommend the truerc x-air I haven't tried it but, I prefer helical antennas or bi-quads for my micro's that have linear antenna, I just build my own then I know they're tuned for my frequency and if there is any issue I know it's nobodies fault but, my own and in my experience they perform better than the manufactured one. Bruce from rc model reviews actually did a build guide a little while ago and his DIY helical thrown together without perfection in mind and still performed better than what is often known as the best commercially available helical from circular wireless. There is a pretty big effect from the frequency it's built for on 5.8 a difference of a millimeter will completely change the tuned frequency, it's just a matter of when you assemble them by hand by the hundreds or thousands you're going to try and get it done as quick as possible for the sake of profit it seems the menace works best because it is a bolt together antenna so it's easy to assemble quick and dirty and still get good results, plus it doesn't hurt that Greg over at menace rc is pretty good at designing antenna as well.

    • @Rcschim
      @Rcschim  4 роки тому

      Thanks for your input. I know that Bruce likes the helical. I will try to get a 3 or 5 heli - but I doubt that it will perform any good if I build it :)

    • @thirtythreeeyes8624
      @thirtythreeeyes8624 4 роки тому +1

      @@Rcschim Go for the 5, 3 are not worth much and you'd be surprised how easy it is to build a decent antenna if you take your time and measure everything twice, if you follow Bruce's video tutorial I bet it'd turn out great. The one thing I don't like about a helical is the size for mounting to your goggle, I think this is why patch antenna are the most popular.

    interesting results, antenna is such a mysterious art, i watched painless360 when he visited menace rc test lab and i was intrigued to see how antennae have preferred channels, '' sweetspots'' and how even plastic can change the performance,

    • @Rcschim
      @Rcschim  4 роки тому +1

      ha, plastic was taken out of the equation on that Foxeer Echo (forcefully by rcschim - the drone engeneer - kind of) :)
      tho the foxy performed the least :) looking inside I found that this is probbably the cheapest to build. So I dont have a lot of faith in Foxeer when it comes to antennas...

      About the antenna preferred channel, I've found that ORT is selling a couple of fine tuned antennas, one omni and one helical, both tuned for the same preferred channel. I'm curious about that solution, but my feeling is that the benefits don't worth the additional cost.

      I didnt test the TFP fully here - sorry. On my goggles it looked not good with them.

      but check this test: ua-cam.com/video/a9j6-313BoA/v-deo.html
      I think 3turn helicals (spiral antennas) are even better.

      I have a few different ones, I think in one video I compared 3 of them. The good old FR632 worked quite nice over the years. see if you can get something similar.
      I also got the CV20 groundstation but honestly dont think for a normal FPVer it would be worth the extra cost. maybe it's really good in extreme situations that I just didnt encounter. for longer range I've put 2 circular wireless helicals on and it gave me good range and quality.

    • @testaccount4191
      @testaccount4191 3 роки тому

      @Russell Phelan lol, i know but you don't get the flicking when it changes receiver and the multipath rejection is way better. it's hard to see on a dvr but in person its noticeable. I would rate the achilles as a very good diversity goggle on par with the true d x and rapidfire for the switching but for bad RF environments the rapidfire is better. Also the new rapidmix from eachine is like $60 and is basically a rapidfire ripoff
