Using a stop block is much more accurate and much more easy instead of establishing a line every time. Great video!
Very good idea as some others had pointed out. I don't know why I didn't use a stop block. Sometimes you get so focused and closely involved with your initial thought process and your desired result I blind myself. Thanks for the comment.
Maybe you could make a stopper so you won't have to worry about the lines. I'm definatly gonna try this. It looks realy nice. Thanks for sharing it :)
Grazie
have seen this type of segmented blanks, was wondering how they were done. Now I know, Will have to give it a try. Thanks for the clear, easy to follow instructions!
+Barrie Hanold you are welcome, thank you for watching and commenting. Let me know how yours turn out. Regards
great video, one comment/question, why not use a stop block on the sled to register your cuts? i do that all the time to create celtic knots. your scallopped ends would be great to replace a centreband on a slimline or euro roundtop type pen!
Your teaching process is excellent. Very clear and understandable. I will try this tomorrow. Cheers........Bill
+William DeVerna Thanks Bill, send me photos of results, I'd like to see them.
Thank you VERY much. Never to old to learn a new trick.
+Richard Ray Thanks for watching I appreciate it.
Thanks for the demo it has many more ideas with my turning. Thanks again.
Thanks for watching Troy
Thank you Lynn for your tutorials. They are a pleasure to learn from.
In this video, you turn the blank to 5/8" before drilling for the tube. Do you think it matters if you drill and glue in the tube first, then create the 60 degree chamfer and turn between centers?
Probably doesn’t matter thanks for watching
Great tips ....going to have to watch quite a bit more before I try this one.....very nicely done sir
+Robert Evans Thanks Robert - just take your time and it isn't as difficult as it first appeaser. Thanks for watching.
hi loved the idea for scalloped pen i have not long started to make pens you are very inspirational for pen turning with great ideas and tutorial videos thank you : )
Thank you Neil
I've just started turning pens and this is a beautiful idea for something slightly different. Excellent video, thanks very much
+Kevin Kirk-hailey you are welcome Kevin and thanks for watching
Lynn -- Thank you for an interesting and instructive video. You made the process easy to understand. One suggestion: You might consider flipping the orientation of your camera, so that it captures the action "upside down". That way, when viewed "right-side up", we'll see things from your perspective. That way, when you draw a number on the blank (for example), it won't be upside down to the viewer.
+David Walser LOL - I actually filmed it upside down but flipped it in editing. Next time I'll consider your thought and see how it looks. Thanks for watching and commenting. Hope you got something out of it.
This is super cool! You were very patient...
+wbarnett22 Thank you, patience is almost a must. Thanks for watching

Lynn, great video. How thick is the aluminum you use? How does it affect your tools when turning it? Thanks.
Simple, clear, inviting.
Lévis
+Lévis Madore Thanks again, I appreciate you watching.
Much appreciate you showing how to do this.
Hi Lynn, Found this video on the recommended list. I've just posted my 50th video which was a segmented pen. I would love to know what you think. Take care Lynn. Cheers, Huw PS Just re-subscribed as UA-cam had, for some reason, un-subscribed me from your channel. This has happened quite a few times. Huw

+Edwin Leach Thanks Edwin I hope it was helpful. Thanks for watching.
Very nicely done. I enjoyed the video!
+Jim Hinze Thanks Jim I'm glad you tuned in. I appreciate it.
Thanks for sharing 👍
You are welcome
Lynn, very good video. One question. Any reason one couldn't set a stop block on the sled when the first cut is made so that each side is guaranteed to cut the next 45 at the exact same point? That way you wouldn't have to draw the reference line and eyeball it with each cut. Just wondering if that would work. Thanks again for a great video!
+Kevin Miller Hello Kevin, that sounds good but I've never tried it. Let me know how it works for you. Thanks for watching.
My thoughts exactly, Kevin.
Great tutorial! You have definitely inspired me to try this scalloped design.
Thanks for watching and good luck
Best wishes Lynn. Hope you are doing well.
awesome pen Lynn thank you for sharing im gonna have to try that one.
+Rod Jaworski Thanks Rod - send me a picture of what you come up with, I'l like to see it.
Hi there. You mentioned gluing Aluminum to the blanks.
What glue do you recommend.
+James Bennett James I use Locktite 5 minute two part. epoxy. Thanks for asking
Very interesting process. What is the marker or pen you used for marking. It looks unusual to me. Also if I could offer a suggestion about your logo on your sled, I would reverse it so it shows up right side up on the video. It always pays to advertise.
+Brian Binns The logo on the sled is right my friend good eyes :)
+Brian Binns Hey Brian thanks for commenting, I picked up that pencil at Lowes, it is a Dixon REACH with 5.6 mm lead with a sharpener in the cap. Pretty handy.
How can I get to the video to make your cutting jig
Thanks it should be on my channel, if I remember it is a two video series
Do you rough up the aluminum up?
+James Bennett yes sir I believe that is mentioned in the video
+James Bennett I scuff it up with 220 and clean it with denatured alcohol to remove any oil
You can turn aluminum?
Absolutely - good luck and thanks for watching

Oh cool. Thanks.
Do I bind it to the wood with wood glue as use the same tools just like any other piece of wood?
Sorry for the questions. I'm new to this.
Can you show how to continue up the blank with pattern, making a almost fish scale look?
It will be a while before I can do that but you just keep repeating the process until you have a blank long enough. Thanks for watching
Nice
Thanks Karl
Very good teacher sir very nice work :)
