- Passengers crowded around airline desks at Dubai International Airport on Wednesday after major delays and cancellations caused by heavy rains.
The United Arab Emirates was hit by what the government described as the highest rainfall in the past 75 years. The rains began on Monday night, and by Tuesday evening the desert city of Dubai had received the average amount of rain it normally gets in a year.
Although the heavy rains had eased by late Tuesday, disruptions were continuing on Wednesday, with Emirates airline suspending check-in for passengers departing from Dubai until midnight

I was watching a documentary about UAE and all that even desalination is not enough as world's water condition is deteriorating and these countries need more for future generations

@@mikecahill3989cause in the UK, rain is normal, so everything is Build in consideration of that. In places like Dubai, it rarely rains, but it when do rains, it rains heavily. Since it does not rain everyday, the infrastructure is also not built to withstand that rain.

What Dubai need to build is not those record breaking tall buildings and shopping centres. What they need is to build record breaking mega underground water reservoirs. Which can help against floods and unlimited fresh water.

I was unfortunately one of the stranded passengers, it was a nightmare trying to get a new boarding pass to get out of Dubai.
As a person who lives in Dubai. The rain caused many places to lose power and many schools to close.

To be fair, even if the storm was natural, it’s a bit silly to not have any form of drainage in a city where the government is actively trialing cloud seeding.

Emeitus airlines treated passengers very rudely, I was stranded at Dubai airport for three days without food and slept on floor on way to Houston
My flight was the first to make it out after the flood… I was there for 26 hrs
I was literally in dubai airport 2 days ago.. omg im so lucky- although it was hailing when i got back to the UK 😭😭

Apparently cloud seeding had nothing to do with it, and the computer models knew about it well before and to the mm. Now if only our weathermen can get hold of those models.

The operations must have stopped prior to the storm as predicted earlier, then the 1000's of stranded passengers would hv not suffered and avoided airline costs, hope someone learn out of this lesson learnt!

There is a drainage system, but this flood was soo immense that even the drainage system over flooded
And it took 2 to 3 days for the city to get back on track, atleast what I now of for Abu dhabi.
Also take into consideration this an event you can't prepare for, it's the desert after all, and yet the government has done astonishing work to get the city running again.
As a person who went to DXB airport back in Summer of 2023 there were no chaos 😂
