In 1984 my wife and I purchased an 1845 farmhouse in Elmore Vt. She passed away last year and I am moving for the same reason as you. I will miss her beautiful gardens. Old houses are a labor of love and worth the effort. I found a nice place in the Adirondacks across Lake Champlain hoping to put the house on the market soon. So glad I discovered your channel.
I live in Maine and this house is representative of many of the old farm houses. The stone and brick foundations are the norm and , if kept dry, last eons. Dirt crawl spaces are the norm as well. I hope you bought it. Someone needs to save it and you guys would be perfect for the work
My parents moved to the town this home is in over 25 years ago and never regretted it. It's a peaceful area. I love how you see the wonderful things in this house. So many people don't have appreciation for old things. To me, there are so many stories in old homes and way more character. Can't wait to see what you decide.
Also, my father had taken down a house from the late 1700s and rebuilt onto the piece of property 5 miles or so down the road. He was in his early 50s when he started the project. Anything is possible if you love what you're doing.
A time capsule for the imagination. Ooh, if walls could talk. It reminds me of Salem Mass. I'm guessing as awesome as the details are, Matt said nope! A money pit for sure.
It’s phenomenal with all the uniqueness and originality you could ask for. There is absolutely nothing better than those older homes that have character that money can’t buy. Buy it, take your time restoring and make it your home full of magic and mystery. ❤
If you did bid, it was with the knowledge of the enormous amount of work the place needs. But if your pockets are big enough, it's really a sweet place. If I had endlessly deep pockets, I'd buy it and give some lucky tradesmen a life's work.
I hate to say this but there are ever-increasing issues at the US/Canadian border. In ZbyC Venezuelans have taken over shelters and forcing other peaceful people to belong. And moving into PA You might want to talk to Northern Vermont homeowners
Just the thought of clearing out all the 'stuff' is exhausting. It looks like every inch of the place needs an enormous amount of work and $$$$. I'm torn between enchantment and the creeps! I love old houses but, for me, this one has gone beyond the point of no return. If it's your choice, I'll be here to watch!
Lots of potential there. Depends on whether you have the energy and determination and the funds to reclaim it. Depends on the price it goes for. My would it make a beautiful house. So quirky, and as I say depends on a lot of other factors. My head says that you will want it, but Matt will have his practical hat on. Good luck. Teasing us and keeping us guessing x
The value is in the land. That's been your top priority. You will have to build new barn structures again, haul out all that stuff, tear down, jack up the original house....but you know all of this and can do it all! I think you bid, but cautious on not overbidding.
New subcriber so not sure about all your goals. But this land is stunning & seems to be off the beaten path like you want. The first building you showed in first video looked like it had some promise to work with. If you could create winter protection for the animals in a hurry, I bet you made an offer. Lots of work but you dont seem to mind that. Best of luck.
Well, if anyone can turn this into a rural mansion, it is definitely you folks. Yes, a lot of money and labor will go into renovating the house. You will have to build new barns for the animals. Pastures are perfect. Fencing, cleaning up the property, renovating the house is nothing you cannot do. Your present house is certainly a testimony to your outstanding capabilities. If the price is right, taxes are reasonable, it truly is a gem and will be such a beautiful home when fully renovated. My favorite part is the outside, as all the trees are mature and so beautiful. I vision, stone fences, perennial gardens, veggie plot, corral, paddocks, rustic out buildings and a courtyard with a cement multi-tiered fountain out front. Gorgeous prospects for anyone up to working on property that requires extensive restoration. Yes, I do believe you will bid on it, if the locality is to your liking. When we purchased property, we always talked to the neighbors to get a feel for the country culture in the region. Usually asked them questions about the property that is for sale. I do hope they include some of the furnishing and cast iron stove and fireplace (s) with the purchase. Is this the one? Maybe it is. :)
The house need work for sure but the quality of the land would be worth the bid. . Restore the restorible. Who ever got the bid for 100 thousand got a deal for the land is worth that.
Gorgeous original features but foundation alone and I believe your Dad said old wirring, nope I don't think you guys bidded. That land was just fabulous as well. Praying for you guys to find what your looking for.
The land alone is worth a fortune! Mid-coast Maine isn't where I would want to live for privacy however. I hope and pray you both get what you truly want. Maybe go further NW in the state❤
I think I would continue to look for something else.. that house will have to have a new foundation done , and the basement walls done and sealed. it is a cool looking place , love the land but it will takes lots of money just to get it safe enough to even live in it. plus I think you would have to rewire it too to keep up to code. if you did all that plus more then it would be a very Beautiful home. I don't know how much it would cost to raise the house to put a new foundation around it. but here in WV, it would be very expensive. but if you decide to buy it , Good Luck and have fun!!
If you ever want to do any justice to a filed stone foundation learn to use lime mortar it will last hundreds of years and allow for the stones to shift with the seasons. Never use modern Portland cements on field stone it's the #1 mistake people make when rsetroing old farm houses.
I'm going to guess that you didn't bid on it. Honestly, I think you would be better off finding a piece of property that suits your needs, but without a house on it. It would be cheaper, in the long run, to put a mobile home or camper on it while you build a house. We live here in Maine as well, and can tell you you don't want to be trying to renovate, or tear down and rebuild, a house like that in the dead of winter! Whatever you decide, we wish you all the best and look forward to seeing what you do!
This would be a tough call. The house is quite lovely even with all its faults and the land is perfect. The foundation is scary. What to do, what to do?
Keep looking. BTW, those upper bedrooms were probably for children. As families grew, they added on. These may not have been heated, but they were finished.
The land and location is almost perfect for the animals and worth the hassle but the house needs a couple million in work. It would be an absolute shame to level it and rebuild. I bet most of the people looking are contractors wanting to ruin the land for new construction. Such a tough call but I hope you are saving this property from those who are from "away" (Mainer term) who will ruin it.
******If you were to bid and intend to rebuild the items you could pull from the house are exquisite! The doors, the beams, the wood itself, the stone.......OMG, I am having heart palpitations just thinking of the possibilities!!! 😍😍😍😍
I’ve been a Realtor for 25 years and I have seen so many houses like this. I surprised the agent didn’t have you sign a hold harmless document to go through. It’s a time capsule and it’s so special but you would have to raise it and make a new foundation and that’s just the beginning. The front and back staircases are common along with servant quarters .
Oh my goodness! So much work and so much potential. The whole house would need to be raised, and a new foundation made. It's going to take a lot of work and money to bring it back to life. I think maybe you passed on it?
You bid and bought it. You have the appreciation for it that many don’t have.I subscribed!!what was that music in the very beginning. ??you will be starting the renovation work soon.plz what’s that music?? Beautiful music????
Just started following your channel so not sure what's your exactly looking for, but the land is beautiful. If you you plan to. restore the house I'd say go for it.
The land is absolutely gorgeous and obviously these fields had something on them keeping them fertile. I assume you are bidding for the horses as well as yourself? You bid on it, didn't you! Also, that is a typical New England partial basement. The part you can descend to was a root cellar. You can't use them once hot water pipes and a furnace is installed but at one time they were really practical.
I’d say ‘maybe’ you put a bid on it. The land and view is beautiful ! The home is old and old homes always need work. The house has been neglected for a long time. And I’m sure it was for owner age related reasons. But this house has so much history and wants a family to love it and repair it. It’s A LOT of work, but I think you both are up for it. I’m already envisioning what it would look like. It would ‘bloom’ under your hard work. ❤
I’d say no. You did not bid on this. Best to keep looking. If you did, there’s a lot of work ahead. Not saying it couldn’t be done, but…. Praying that you find exactly what you want and need. 🙏 ❤️😘🤗💕
The property is beautiful for sure. The preservationist in me would be chomping at the bit to restore the old girl, but with all of your animals it would be hard to get her back to her former glory in a decent amount of time when you have so many furry friends that need tending to. My guess is you did not bid. She sure could be beautiful though.
Bid for land value only? A reproduction would look fabulous on the land. So many outbuildings to be built. You would be starting from scratch because, sadly, the house hasn’t been cared for over the years. It all needs a good spiritual cleanse.
I say you did not bid on it. The land is beautiful, but that house has A LOT of structural problems. It would be really fun to poke around in all the nooks and crannies though.
I don't think you bid because winter is coming on and you would need barns right now for the animals. Not to mention getting so much done in that house to be ready for yourselves. Think it's a neat property but not the one for y'all. Pray you trust the Lord and let him lead you to where you need to be.
The quality of air inside I guess not safe anymore because of the other rotten woods and I heard your mom as soon you got in , you and your mom said smells mold.
I’ll say no on a bid even though the land looks perfect the home needs a lot plus you have to build barns for the animals and your dad didn’t look very impressive lol
The lead and asbestos remediation, dust and mold removal and containment would eat your budget. The land is beautiful but the house is environmentally unsafe.
Way too much work to do, thousands of hours. It would be easier to knock it down and build a new farmhouse style one with new electrical and plumbing. Buy it for the land. If you renovated it, you would have no time for the farm animals.
I agree with your mom - all I see is work. It would be easier to tear down and the house and build a new one if you really loved the rest of the land. Who knows what problems are lurking under all that?
In 1984 my wife and I purchased an 1845 farmhouse in Elmore Vt. She passed away last year and I am moving for the same reason as you. I will miss her beautiful gardens. Old houses are a labor of love and worth the effort. I found a nice place in the Adirondacks across Lake Champlain hoping to put the house on the market soon. So glad I discovered your channel.
Sorry for your loss; blessings for you in your new home.
The tree near the bench is a tulip poplar. This is such a beautiful place!
I live in Maine and this house is representative of many of the old farm houses. The stone and brick foundations are the norm and , if kept dry, last eons. Dirt crawl spaces are the norm as well. I hope you bought it. Someone needs to save it and you guys would be perfect for the work

Oh no. You've got me going down a rabbit hole now! We have a cape like this in central Maine of the same vintage. I am loving this!
The land is just amazing there. House has potential.
The tulip tree was used by the. Cherokee kndians to make canoes, medicine and such..
The trees are so beautiful there!
A time capsule for the imagination. Ooh, if walls could talk. It reminds me of Salem Mass. I'm guessing as awesome as the details are, Matt said nope! A money pit for sure.
Hi guys oh my goodness that place is absolutely beautiful I know it needs a love but what beautiful home ❤
What an amazing property.
Very nice place.
It’s phenomenal with all the uniqueness and originality you could ask for. There is absolutely nothing better than those older homes that have character that money can’t buy. Buy it, take your time restoring and make it your home full of magic and mystery. ❤
What a fasinating house. Im amazed how there's so much lefy untouched. If it comes with all the furniture there'd be so many treasures
Awww the cook stove. Sweet
Those stone walls tell a tale of huge effort to clear stones off the forest and clear the forest, creating a field to grow crops.
Let the adventure begin!
What a beautiful place, follow your heart.👍❤️

Wow Jenny this is sweet. Hoping 😅 it’s good for you all.

I’d say it checks all the boxes. Great property!
Your window is a work of art. No kidding. I can't wait to see your finishing touches.

The land is gorgeous!! The house is cool but sure needs alot of work!
Its a Tulip Tree!! My Indiana state tree! : )
Tree is a tulip poplar. Lirodendren
:-) ... Tulipifera, a blast from the past. It's been a long time since I used that part of my brain!
A lot of work but the land is gorgeous!! I say YES

Liriodendron tulipifera - Tulip tree
Lots of work on the house, but could def be worth it🤷♀️ Amazing land for sure! I'm excited to see what you guys do & what the future holds!
Looks like tulip popular tree. We have 3 large ones in our front yard. They do have yellow flowers.

Maybe they did and she didn’t film it.
Hi you have amazing homes and views ❤🎉
Gorgeous
A lot of work. The foundation!!!
That's a spooky house with the music
Oh my goodness! So much work and so much potential. The whole house would need to be raised, and a new foundation made.

Yes
Tulip tree or Fiddletree. Beautiful property...
"puddle of possibilities"!! hahaha!
Looks like a Tulip Poplar.
Yes a lot of work but worth it
YEA YES YES,
I say yes
Needs work a lot but it’s well worth it. See if there farm loans to help you
The property is beautiful for sure. Tree is a tulip poplar
If the size if the lot is right, and you are not scared of construction no matter what? I think you did bid on it.
use floor jacks and redo foundation
Isn’t it something the narrow steep staircases.
👍🏻👍🏻❤️🇺🇸neat! I don’t think you bid because of the foundation situation.
Bid for land value only? A reproduction would look fabulous on the land. So many outbuildings to be built. You would be starting from scratch because, sadly, the house hasn’t been cared for over the years. It all needs a good spiritual cleanse.
It’s a tulip tree.
I'm very happy for you...
What state is it in??🌻🌻🐿
Maine
I say you did not bid on it. The land is beautiful, but that house has A LOT of structural problems. It would be really fun to poke around in all the nooks and crannies though.
I’m guessing you put in a bid, but it’s a lot to chew. If you want it, I hope it works out.
Tulip Tree
Have you sold your property I’ve asked several times regarding the price but hit no answer
The house is under contract for $100,000
So is it u guys or not 🤷🏼♀️
The land seems worth 100,000. Location Location 😊
I don't think you bid because winter is coming on and you would need barns right now for the animals. Not to mention getting so much done in that house to be ready for yourselves. Think it's a neat property but not the one for y'all. Pray you trust the Lord and let him lead you to where you need to be.
Wow what a money pit
The quality of air inside I guess not safe anymore because of the other rotten woods and I heard your mom as soon you got in , you and your mom said smells mold.
Lovely to see the old house but it needs too much work. It’s a money pit. 😊
Tulip poplar tree
Agreed!
Tulip Poplar
Tulip tree
I do not think you placed a bid.
It's a tulip tree
Way too much work to do, thousands of hours. It would be easier to knock it down and build a new farmhouse style one with new electrical and plumbing. Buy it for the land. If you renovated it, you would have no time for the farm animals.

Looks like a good snake hole to me!
Poplar tree.
No, my goid
But somehow this is not the property for you guys.
Raise the house. Put up a small/modest prefab home. Invest in proper barn and stables - IF you’re interested in the property, imo.
No!
