The Metallic Armor in the show was most likely meant to have originally been represented by the ranger suits from MMPR: The Movie, since those suits looked more like, well, armor, with the Metallic Armor power-up being the means of bringing those movie suits into the TV series (as had been done for the Ninjetti suits being used for the Ninja Ranger suits, and the Tengu Warriors being used as the Tenga Warriors). But because of how fragile and delicate those movie suits were, they had likely become so damaged following their use in the movie that using them in the TV series became an unviable option, so plans likely changed at the last minute, with the Metallic Armor instead being represented simply by glittery versions of the TV series ranger suits. Also, those movie ranger suits weren't made of leather. They were made of PVC and metal plating.
Nah, let's face it. Bandai wanted to release cheap and easy variants of the main MMPR suits without spending the money on new molds for the movie suits. They went with "metallic" variants because it was easy for them to produce and easy for Saban to put into the show. Let's not forget, Power Rangers was basically a glorified toy commercial.
@@WiGgYof09 The original toys for the Movie suits never used new molds. They were always shiny repaints of the normal MMPR ranger toys. The toys for the Metallic Armor Rangers were the exact same toys as the Movie rangers, just repacked in new packaging. And Karan Ashley confirmed in a video with Power Rangers Playback (hosted by Catherine Sutherland and Nakia Burrise) that the Metallic Armor was indeed originally going to be the same suits from the movie, but plans changed when those suits (in her words) "fell apart too much".
@@allthedumbthingz-oc5cc Doesn't change the fact that Karan Ashley confirmed that the movie suits were originally going to be used as the Metallic Armor in the show before they opted go with glittery versions of the normal suits instead.
I heard a long time ago that the metallic armor was brought into season 3 because they had na over abundance of extra movie figures left. So rather than take the loss, they repackaged them as the season 3 packaging and brought suits in to sell the toys.
The Ninja line appeared in Target and went on deep clearance soon after. The Tenga Warriors were difficult to find in the US and I ended up buying one on eBay but eventually saw others pop up randomly. I never saw the metallic series in US stores and ended up ordering them all from Hasbro Pulse on Black Friday for 30% or 40% off retail.
Metallic for the US is Hasbro Pulse exclusive. You won't find it in store. Tenga's I found plenty in store but you still have Covid messing with inventory.
If you don't mind the color variation, Game Stop has the Tenga two pack for $16 bucks on their site. The colors don't match the show, but it's good enough for those looking to build an army.
Think the most believed reason for the Metallic armor was so Bandai can sell the remaining stock movie figures which were just shiny figs of the show suits (probably because new molds to make the accurate movie suits were too costly) in newer packaging to reflect the show. My theory why the ninjetti suits were allowed on the show was because the designs were a bit different than the movie (no coloured gloves and covering the faces except the eyes) to avoid any potential copyright issues and the movie suits were too heavy and impractical to use on a weekly basis. Love the vid as always. Just realised this is the last team completed with the matching artwork
I just realised this makes sense that they could've had the automorphin metallics good to go as a second wave of Movie figures - that's why it's still Kimberly rather than Kat.
I haven't been around since Day 1, but from the time I discovered your channel I've loved your take on each of the zords and figures you've covered! Really makes me nostalgic to where I was during those original releases (even if I was never able to get them). Thanks for the past 6 years and looking forward to seeing what the next 6 bring!
This was an Excellent history class Power Rangers upload. I grew up with PR in the 90s but by high school i stopped watching around the Zeo season. Ill never forget when i accidently saw In Space on tv and couldnt believe how Great it was! This was cool to know this toy history as well!
i missed your whole team of lightning collection reviews also loved the moment of silence with the crap that will be the plastic free packaging. along with the love of ninja storm.
I'm actually in the camp that would support plastic free packaging if Hasbro had better qc and had some sort of way to show if a package had been previously tampered with (like printed security tape like on some electronics). I understand the plight of mint collectors though, perhaps Hasbro could provide different packaging options as online or retail exclusives while people like me can get the figures in brown cardboard boxes.
The movie suits were already falling apart before filming ended, which is why they weren't used in the series. Ask any of the actors from the film, they will rant endlessly about how often they'd have to pause filming because one of the PVC armor plates fell off one of the legs or shoulders.
I bought Blue Senterion tonight and told my gf i had to open it right away at home to know if i had to take it back tomorrow to Target. It was fine. Joints were tight but it's cold here. But I don't want that stress.
I appreciate that Hasbro gave season 3 the effort they did. The metallic figures are pretty good, the ninja outfits had all the head options you need, and the Tenga was one of the best figures they made for this line. I just wish we had figures like Rito and Mastervile. Maybe some day, but I fear the paint work needed to make them happen would either drive the price way up or cause Hasbro to steer clear entirely.
This set is one reason where some people don't realize how big MMPR actually is in terms of potential merch. It's not one show, it's multiple shows with multiple looks. QC was it's real enemy though. I really had to search for the best version of some figures because man I saw some horror stories in store. Metallic I've kept in their box most of the time due to space but I think I prefer them over the first figures due to the colors. Still the best Rocky headsculpt we've gotten. Still need a proper Ninjor. That one is surprise given the retro figs. Same with Rito and maybe Master Vile. Movie rights. Really haven't seen anything clear. If Hasbro doesn't own it. Disney does but I don't see why Disney would want them. They can't do anything with it and hold no leverage outside some designs Hasbro can pass up. It could be Hasbro does have the rights but its practical to just market with the MMPR banners. The most obvious is the movie suits are a unique mold that they can't really reuse outside a variant finish. Movie suits, those things were falling apart by the premiere. Those just weren't going to work for a tv show production. The most recent movie suit will probably hold up.
Good point about the movie suits being hard to maintain and expensive at that. Smarter to stick with spandex on a TV show budget! I'm curious what will happen with the Movie suit figs. With Hasbro holding the master toy license, I don't think Disney would be able to release them even if they wanted to. But I still don't think Hasbro can just release them without clearing it with Disney. 2025 would be a great time to get them out - 30th anniversary of the movie!
@@powerrangertube It's a super weird situation. You'd think Disney would have purchase the movie rights back in the day and then sold that to Saban who sold it to Hasbro. This assumes Saban just never had the merch rights. Bandai was clearly making movie figs. Either they just still had the license to make it from Fox or Saban owned it which means Hasbro owns it. If I'm Saban, would I really give Fox all the toy rights for the film? I'd let them have a bulk of the movie profits but keep the toys. But then if I'm Fox, I know how stupid I was with Star Wars and letting George keep those.
@@DesignIncase Fox always owned the rights to the movie suits, since they were the ones who financed and distributed the movie. After Disney bought Fox, they gained the rights. They also technically include the Ninjetti looks too (and name, hence why "Ninjetti" isn't used on the packaging), but the appearances of the different masked heads in the morphing sequence allowed Hasbro to include them via a loophole. The reason why Bandai was able to release those Legacy figures back in the day was because they had a deal with Fox to allow them to use it. Whether Disney would want to play ball is a toss-up, but since Hasbro already works with them on both Star Wars and Marvel, it's not impossible. It's not a unique situation. Disney still owns the rights to the first 7 Digimon movies. The first three from the Fox buyout for Digimon: The Movie, the latter four for when they were dubbed for Jetix, but for whatever reason wasn't included in the sale to Saban. There's also the original 80's TMNT cartoon. The franchise as a whole is owned by Nickelodeon and they can make all the new merch they want with the characters, but Lionsgate owns the actual cartoon. This might also be why the modern 80's TMNT designs have their shell a green color instead of brown and their emblems with gold letters and black background instead of grey on grey.
I'd love some videos on the Minipla Megazords. Idk if you do models but they are a lot of fun to build. They are doing Ninjor soon as well as the Thunder Megazord from Dairanger.
I wish I had both of these sets tbh. I don’t have the space to display them, nor the money to buy them either, but it’s just a great lookin set and one of my favorite powers from MMPR.
I know it'd need something to be based on to even happen, say it happens in the comics, but I just get a feeling they may or could make one more Metallic Armor and Ninja Mode set of figures for a "What if Tommy was still the Green Ranger" deal. Since much as I'd be one of the many rolling at my eyes at it because it's MMPR/Tommy again, it would at least be cool to see a Ninja Mode design that goes with that idea, I even wonder what animal he'd get in that scenario.
@@Mario-pv8gr Did you get the Fighting Spirit Legacy pack? I do think that's a great idea! There's lots of What If avenues to explore! They could even make it a running thing since the first big story line was based on What if Tommy remained evil and What if he combined the White and Green powers.

Hasbro just doesn't seem to care about Power Rangers Lightning Collection, and after I finish collecting Lost Galaxy and Dino Thunder; I'm done with them for the foreseeable future, especially now that I can't see how they're messed up anymore. I'm still bothered that they never used the Dairanger suits for armored versions or tried to include them in some way in the show; they were just such great designs to only use one of.
Biggest problem with the Lightning Collection for me (an in box collector) is the plastic free packaging without the Tom Whalen artwork. I don't need the plastic window (if they didn't have such bad QC), but the artwork on the box has completely been disregarded after 3 years of figures. I personally haven't purchased a single figure since the change has been made. Highly contemplating selling the line off. Maybe keeping Ninja and Metallic. I mean SPD Omega, Putty, and Cog packs have no plastic window, but still have the matching artwork.
I love the video and you really got my pledge the moment you had the guts to make a video about the disrespectful ending Billy got though I have to get the nephews to bed so I can't watch it right now lo
I agree with you that the full wrapped masks that cover their entire face never did look all that great on the ninjetti suits, I’m glad lightning collection gave us 3 options for faces on the ninjetti figures
It seems really hard to get Kat Pink Rangers in the UK these days. I've had a look and both the Zeo/MMPR Pink double pack is very expensive (£150+), if you can find it at all, and the Metallic Armor Pink MMPR is rare and expensive too (£80+). Extra frustrating because US Hasbro Pulse still has it for like $20, but they don't deliver internationally. Toyed with the idea of getting both the Zeo and Metallic Armor figure sets, but surprisingly enough, the Kat figures are the hardest to get, not the Tommy ones! But would make getting the whole set very difficult.
I don't think the metallics have sold as well given that they're still kicking around discount stores. The OG suits always went. The Remastered's are selling out. People love that season 1 aesthetic most I guess
Hey Ryan! Love the content bro. Do you have any thoughts on the Kara Kuri Dino megazord? I personally think that is what the megazord should have looked like in the 2017 reboot. Thanks again ✌️
I really wish that they would’ve kept the plastic in the packaging for the Ultrazord box set, but unfortunately that was probably the cause of the loose legs on one of the Dino fury zords. Or it could just be Hasbro’s QC issues still existing.
You know, I think Saban should've used the dairanger costumes and footage for season 2 after using all the zyu2 megazord footage. For the movie, the Dairanger suits be made of rubber and worn during the first half, and than the ninja suits for through out the rest. For Season 3, not only the power rangers control the ninjazords, but the alien rangers of aquitar would later come in and team up with them and ninjor while controlling the shogunzords, before master vile comes in and turns the teens into kids.
Changing wholesale from the Zyuranger suits to the Dairanger suits would have been a bad idea. Americans react badly to wholesale changes and changing both the suits AND the Zords after one season would have been too much too quickly.
@krystian charos That would have a) extended Season 1 even longer, since Saban ain't wasting that expensive Zyu2 footage, b) not actually change anything I said about fans rejecting changes in the designs used for the show, and c) caused headaches in Season 3 to make Aisha the leader of the team.
@krystian charos Presumably, Austin St. John, Walter Jones, and Thuy Trang would have left regardless. Amy Jo Johnson told them beforehand she was leaving in Season 3. Kakuranger's leader, and sole female member, was female, meaning Aisha would have been forced into the leader role in order to make the stock footage make sense.
I own three of the pink ninja ranger which I have noticed that on my second Katherine figure on the suit the crane coin it's scuffed but don't get me wrong i love it but it is unfortunate because I have one of my favourite suits in toy form but I love it
Kids won't buy them because they can't see the toy in the flesh if they wanted to look at pictures they'd buy it online and for adults they ain't gonna buy it because as u said in box collectors like keeping it mint but also likes seeing the thing they are keeping safe , u could keep a non plastic one in mint not knowing if the figure is mint 😭
I held off on getting the Ninja Rangers until I saw a sale for Red, Yellow, and Kat. Now I need to get the others but White is way too expensive. Worst part is I got Metallic White right before buying the three ninjas. Since I didn't have them at the time I just got Metallic White and didn't buy Ninja White which was in stock at that time.
How tf can we get LC metallic pink in the UK!? I've got the other 5 and I think they're brilliaint. Particularly red as the Rocky head and helmet are much improved! Really want to complete it with that early exclusive of pink though!
They're getting through 'em! I wonder if they'll try either a box set or an initial Jason or Tommy civilian mode rangers. Also the bikes - the barely seen dino OGs, Thunder bikes (pretty sure these never existed on the show?), Shark Cycles (I have 0 interest in these), plus any way to get the Thunder Cannon, anything else we can think of? Hopefully not Wild West Rangers or Dark Rangers...
@powerrangertube ope you just jinxed us I've had the feeling we are getting the wild west rangers and the dark rangers for the longest time. Have you forgotten about the cell shaded pink ranger
I think they decided not to change the helmets because they were afraid audiences wouldn't understand the change. The MMPR suits WERE the power rangers. Hell, they are STILL considered to be THE power rangers by a lot of adults. They went as far as to put the old suits in the Power Chamber during zeo just so people would know these are still the power rangers. Personally, I would have liked to see those designs shown in the video. I hated seeing the Season 1 and 2 helmets during season 3.
Okay, soooooo...the yellowing issue doesn't seem to be exclusive to the Metallic Armor figures; I've noticed that your White Ninja Ranger's knees are a bit yellowed, too. And it's unfortunate as this ain't their only brand that has such a problem with poor plastic choices that can yellow easily even while still in the box - Transformers has apparently been plagued with it since 2021's War for Cybertron: Kingdom line (and throughout last year's Transformers Legacy and to a much lesser degree with this year's Legacy Evolution line). Huh!? As far as original for Power Rangers grunts, I gotta disagree with you about the Tengas/Tengus being the pinnacle. I'm more drawn toward the Stingwingers of Lost Galaxy (even though Saban eventually did bring in the Seijuu Sentai Gingaman villain and grunts for a couple episodes). Dinothunder's Tyrannodrones or whatever they were called were also pretty sick (and even then, Disney wound up also using the grunts from Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger anyway - I barely remember what the PR exclusive grunts were called, and I have ZERO memory of what the Abaranger grunts were in Abaranger or Dinothunder). And the Putties...ugh, Zedd's Z Putties were the pinnacle of FAIL - how is it that they were supposed to be *soooooo much stronger* than the original Putties, yet they were so insanely easy to beat?? (And really, given that their design also had the circular pads with Zs on'em on the knees as well as the chest, they should've been even easier to beat; could've made for some sick combos, too!!)
I can confirm that it's not anything like you said the whole stock in every UK online retailer was affected to the point that they had less products, had to double and triple check them and even had to wait until replacements arrived to replace even the ones out of stock. Heck my White and Blue were both missing different heads and they were both one of the first reported arrivals so don't give Hasbro slack.
The irony seems to be lost on these toy manufacturers that they are trying to reduce plastic packaging for products that are made entirely of plastic. They dont care about the enviroment they just need to look like they do. This is just a poorly judged, virtue signalling stunt that will back fire when the complaints and lower sales numbers start to hit.
damn, was with you the whole time until you complained about the packaging. its just packaging. we can all still be collectors and also use less plastic waste

@Buchi Klop but suppose Lord zedd not only takes away Tommy's green ranger powers, but the rest of the team as well.
@@buchiklop110 aisha wouldn't be the leader.
Powerrangertube, are you going to get the Alien Ranger 5 pack?
Yup! Wish they had civilian heads though
Do you have your figures back in the box?
I held off on getting the Ninja Rangers until I saw a sale for Red, Yellow, and Kat. Now I need to get the others but White is way too expensive. Worst part is I got Metallic White right before buying the three ninjas. Since I didn't have them at the time I just got Metallic White and didn't buy Ninja White which was in stock at that time.
Did you 3D print those ninja medallions? Or did you buy them?
How tf can we get LC metallic pink in the UK!? I've got the other 5 and I think they're brilliaint. Particularly red as the Rocky head and helmet are much improved! Really want to complete it with that early exclusive of pink though!
eBay and only eBay for us!
God I'm praying the mmpr well dries up for years
They're getting through 'em!
@@purplewolfranger22 Yeesh well it's been 13 months since the pink one released and all quiet so far about any more... 😵💫
Going to hop off before I blow my paycheck
I am watching this at 4:34...god help me
Why zordon in mighty Morphin power rangers the movie do not have a toy
I want TV and Movie command centres!
I can careless about in box collectors the figure need to be free from there boxes and posed /displayed for all to see
Aaaaaaand pledged.
Cheers Nick 🙌
Sadly White Ranger is above 100 bucks ninja White too
cmon ,are we REALLY gonna act like the missing heads arent from terrible people buying the figure, then returning it without the headband head
Plastic window packaging is coming back.
It is! Right move I'd say
Its to bad that Hasbro is switching to cardboard boxes and helping the environment. Such a shame.
