There's actually a lot of California sagebrush around here. And thanks, I now have some good music to blast back at my neighbor when his little kids are practicing rock and roll in their garage.

Out of all the videos I watched. Yours was the best and most informative. Thank you, I now know what I had picked with a friend while hiking was correct. Many blessings !

I've been putting white sage in a tea strainer ball in the bottom of my mug and pouring hot coffee over it and drinking it every morning. I'm seeing great results. It helps me heal and makes my face beautiful. I think it has a sweetening effect on the blood. I quit smoking it.

If so whewww! I made heaps of smudging sticks with added rosemary lemon mint purple sage leaves and some single white sage leaves from my 1 plant I managed to grow out of over 100 seeds here in Hamilton New Zealand. This will be my white sage's 2nd summer coming up and I think she's about to seed. I've had to leave her in my 20 to 25ltr pot because I rent and lucky I did because in April this year my landlord sold the house and I had to move. I'm afraid to put her in the ground because of that. When can I harvest some of her branches to make small smudging sticks. And when do I let her be? Other than taking the discoloured leaves for drying and burning?
Ps. Didn't realise you can eat and drink even though I know white sage is for medicinal purposes lol

I love black sage. A little goes a long way, but to get the full bouquet, let it heat up in the bottom of the pan for a few seconds to melt the resin-like oils unique to S. mellifera.

Oh, and A. californica is great for colds. It's a good maintenance plant for survival conditions because it has strong antifungal and vermifuge action, like most Artemisias. It's also a stimulant, so use in moderation.

There's a ton of normal sagebrush in high altitude deserts and is pretty much the exact same as coastal sagebrush without the tany taste of coastal sagebrush and there's so much of it.

Do you have any recommendations for replanting white sage? I had the opportunity to take to bushes from a white sage farm that had closed. I put them in two big containers. They looked like they were dead but then new leaves sprouted. I find that there are a lot of dry dead branches left and wonder if I should cut them off.

Look at the native plant societies and local nurseries for small plants, seeds and additional details. There was one in San Diego that happens I believe twice a year with a HUGE selection of salvia and a ton of others.

    • @SanDiegoSWOT
      @SanDiegoSWOT  7 років тому +2

Really? I had it 2 weekends ago again in a soup of leftover smoked chicken and noodles. Threw some in and found it very tasty. They are definitely strong flavors though. Definitely like cooking with the black as well myself.

I like sagebrush, but different sagebrushes can taste drastically different. The A. tridentata that grows near me tastes like wormwood. It's so intensely bitter that you really have to be prepared for it. I like a tiny little bit with fresh tomato dishes, like fresh sauces, salsa, bruschetta, etc.
      A. californica is sweeter, and makes an excellent tea.

Eh, just needs to be more in the background (like 25% of its currently volume), it’s louder than his voice, which is the focus of the video.

This is a kind criticism. Hopefully he understands it's not a put down, or just some people complaining. I absolutely agree, it was lovely music, but distracting at the high volume.

San Diego SWOT That sounds delicious! I've been making smudge sticks from a plant I found on the trail but after reading on the internet that the market for sage has grown so much that unscrupulous people have been taking out whole plants I decided to start growing my own.
I was gonna ask you if the last sage you show, (cowboy cologne) is another name for that one Grey Sage?
I found a huge incense cedar tree that I use for smudge sticks that smells great too and its not as rare as white sage.

I would really love to hear about this precious Sage, but the music is too loud I can't hear what you're saying thanks for the video. Nothing wrong with the music just not at the appropriate time should be in the background so we can hear what's being said.

Mm I would advise against that. Many natives here in the US consider it a sacred plant. Try to find a native sage closer to where you live if possible.
