  • Personal finances are this wild thing where we aren't taught it in schools or our parents, and yet we're supposed to get it right. Because of this, I failed with my own money matters for most of my life, and it wasn't until I really buckled down to THINK and develop systems that worked for me and in this video I share my 5 Spending Rules that saved my personal finances, from being in over 30,000 dollars in stupid credit card debt to today, being debt free for over a decade.
By the way, if you or someone you know is in debt, here is my completely free Get-Out-Of-Debt workbook:

Managing money is different from accumulating wealth, and the lack of investment education in schools may explain why people struggle to maintain their financial gains. The examples you provided are relevant, and I personally benefited from the market crisis, as I embrace challenging times while others tend to avoid them. Well, at least my advisor does too, jokingly.

Investors should exercise caution with their exposure and exercise caution when considering new investments, particularly during periods of inflation. It is advisable to seek guidance from a professional or trusted advisor in order to navigate this recession and achieve potential high yields.

Through closely monitoring the performance of my portfolio, I have witnessed a remarkable growth of $485k in just the past two quarters. This experience has shed light on why experienced traders are able to generate substantial returns even in lesser-known markets. It is safe to say that this bold decision has been one of the most impactful choices I have made recently.

Here’s an evaluation I often use … Would I buy it if it was paid with:
    • the first money made (difficult to earn due to low salary)
    • the last money I have (needed for essential stuff)
    • the latest money earned (possibly for you too: easily made and with a positive account balance)
Remembering how tough it was to earn the first money and weighing in essentiality often results in a decision not to buy.

I’ve been applying the 1 week per £100 rule. If there’s something I want, for every £100 it costs, wait a week.
It’s amazing how time puts nonsense into perspective. Did I want that Bulova moon watch? Yes, but 6 weeks later I’d forgotten all about it.

I’m never gonna be satisfied because I’m always going to see some new thing that I really want so I might as well just not buy anything and be in the state of wanting something new since I’ll just be there after I buy some thing anyway.😂

I do similar to your photo rule and put things on my amazon wish list, in the cart, or on subscribe and save. I go through them and often wonder why I put something on there. Putting it in the cart, I read somewhere, gives about the same dopamine rush as actually checking it out. I can't say if that's exactly true or not, but often I add tons of stuff to cart, knowing I won't ever buy it.

A lot of times though when I see something I get FOMO if it’s something that might sell out and so a lot of times if I have the money, I’ll just go ahead and buy it so the two week rule for certain things doesn’t make sense especially if it’s something like a limited additionpocket knife that you know everybody and their grandma is going to want to buy as soon as they see it in two weeks that is not going to be there

Top Video. I calculated the factor of accrued and reinvested interest from my age until 65 (possibly to retire earlier or to leave it to my kids). If you multiply the price of a good with this factor, you get the value of thos sort of money in three decades (in my case). I stopped buying nearly everything.

I love this. I’m turning 40 in January, and I’ve been wanting a certain car for a while. I told myself I would get myself that car for my 40th IF (and only if) I can pay down all my other non-mortgage debt (minus one personal loan that I have, which has a set and predictable monthly payment so is easy to budget for). So far, I’m about 80% there. Having a clear and defined goal with a positive reward helps me achieve things better than just saying, “well, I’ll get the car and figure out the rest later.”

Weird timing as I have been diving into my personal finances with my wife more frequently lately. No matter how we look at the numbers 1 thing is very very clear. It really has little to do with how much we bring in, that number stays fairly consistent. It has EVERYTHING to do with what we have going out! Its shocking to see some of the things you spend money on each month and when you start digging deeper and chatting with friends you realize how many of us live outside of our means. We all need to take a deep breath, be grateful for the things we DO have and continue to find ways to enjoy life. Although I agree with Maurice, we all have our weaknesses and mine seems to be concert tickets... 🤣Cheers All!

Great video and amazing plan. The steps are a good idea I do something similar with Amazon. When I am shopping whether idea from a video or something that I think I want, I leave it in my cart for at least 3 weeks before a make the purchase. At the end of that time and I can still justify the need (instead of wanting) I get it as long as I can pay for it with cash. Yes, there are thing I want and those are purchases I want to leave off the credit card. Amazon can be a dangerous path if you are not careful. Watches are my weakness too!!!

This is a good supplement on figuring out how to spend your money but I think you need to follow the basic rule of thumb in budgeting first and foremost which is: divide your monthly after-tax income into three spending categories: 50% for needs, 30% for wants and 20% for savings or paying off debt. If you don't have the money to spend on wants then that automatically stops you from overspending.
