- The false number 9 is a key part of modern day football, and has helped bring success to the likes of Barcelona, Liverpool, and Man City. But the position can be traced all the way back to the 1950s with Hungarian forward Nandor Hidegkuti.

Slight correction:
He was by no means the original false 9. The idea of a centre-forward dropping deep was quite standard particularly in Austria, Czechoslovakia and Hungary; and it was experimented with in other parts of the world
(Péter Palotás was used as the withdrawn centre-forward much before Hidegkuti at MTK Hungaria, Matthias Sindelar did the same for Austria, while Pedernera and Lacasia did the same for River Plate and Argentina)
Also, the photo at 0:43 is of Zoltán Czibor.

@@afcfinners You almost got it :D The g and k are kinda similar in pronunciation so most ppl tend not to spell the g sound and say it like it was 2 k-s in everyday speech.

Vastly underrated player.
Haaland plays a similar role at Manchester City.
A ' roving ' supposed centre forward.
He is very hard to mark.
Hidegkuti though was a playmaker and a pivot for Puskas.
But he could score goals too.
Bobby Charlton was not disimilar.
