    My mom dressed us up in big black t shirts as kids when my grandma’s would fruit. It was a beast. It was cut down at over 50 years of age- a couple years later it grew back in the same spot!!! I have a baby from it now ❤ and it’s getting sizable again but gosh- nothing like that dense forest that stood over 20 feet tall

    You were supposed to show us how to grow the fruit from scratch. Instead, it was half baked personal account of how clever you are.

    I'm in zone 9-10 as well and most of my relatives love growing these trees as well as loquats and apples. I haven't grown a pomegranate tree yet but I might this year!

      You should if you got the space! I didn't have much luck finding good ones at the market, if I did, they are rather pricey. I would love to have a loquat tree...

    Hi Wendy
    If you have a high crop, you can juice it, seeds only, and reduce it on a low fire in a pot until it becomes a thick sirop or molasses.
    You can add it to salads as a dressing and it will last for years in bottles.

    Woah! Your poms are huge. If you had your own market , you would probably be able to sell it for a hefty price! I currently have 3 Pom trees myself and the first one I planted so far is bearing 3 fruits for me. Can't wait to try! Thanks for sharing a view of your gorgeous pom tree.

    Just planted a couple of trees here this spring, how long did you wait to allow yours to bear fruit? Mine have been flowering, but I'm scared to stunt their growth so I've been picking all their flowers off

    In zone 9a southeast LA gulf coast our Parfianka pomegranate is my favorite fruit tree unless it rains too much, which reduces the harvest. One dry summer we had pomegranates for over 3 months and they are incredibly delicious. Last year it rained so much we had a small harvest. Give them a try if you live in a dry climate.

    My Wonderful pomegranate is about four or five years old now and getting read to bloom and possibly fruit. I got it from Parkseed on sale two years ago. It bloomed last year in a pot and last fall I finally got around to planting it in the ground. The new growth this year looks very good. These trees seem very well suited for Texas, zone 8b, because while they are very resistant to heat and can take lots of sun like citrus, but they don't need to be protected from frost the way citrus and true tropical plants do. They can take it down into the 20s just fine. Everyone who possibly can should grow pomegranates.

    I'm so happy I found your channel. I have a pom too. Don't know the variety. This year is the first season that it bloomed like crazy. I would have had so many, however, with some crazy winds that came.. most of my flowers were knocked off. So I was left with amount 20 or so, lost some to critters and I'm currently eagerly waiting for about a dozen to ripen.

    oh, one more thing. you can take citrus peel, lime or orange are especially good, and squeeze the peel a little bit, and mist pomegranate arlis with oil to give it a neat flavor variation.

    Beautiful healthy looking tree,and fruit.
    This is great info about this fruit.
    Will you please tell me the name of this variety,and is it tart tasting,and are the seeds soft or hard?
    I want to try and grow some fruit that is huge like yours.
    Thank you for sharing Wendy🤗

    • @wendiland
      @wendiland  5 років тому +2

      I think this variety is called Ruby Red. If you wait until it is fully ripe, it has a pretty sweet taste, but with a bit of tartness at the end. If you are looking for pure sweetest find pink or white pomegranates. The red ones will have higher nutrition compared to lighter colored ones. Density of the seeds depends on the amount of water the tree gets. I’ve had different hardness each year based on how much water it goes. More water = smaller, softer seeds usually. Happy Gardening!

    Omg!! Beautiful!! What variety of pomogranite is it. Also what minerals or food exactly do you use just out of curiosity? I just planted a wonderful pomegranate. I sadly killed my Sweet Utah after moving it to the roof top deck. Way to hot up there. I decided to plant my wonderful pom inground this time around. I grew up eating poms and figs as a kid. Cant wait to eat right off my very own pom tree! 😊

      Althea McDougal is this your first time seeing it bloom? Some fruit trees seem to be unsuccessful in fruiting when it's their first time. Our tree did not fruit until the second time it flowered. Does it get cold enough for leaves to drop there?

      Wendi Phan: Yes it gets a little chilly here sometimes temps dip into the 30s but it doesn't last long, the tree gave me two guavas last year but haven't flowered at all this year. I fertilized and pruned in the spring hoping it would produce more but it didn't produce at all.

    Fact: Pomegranate seeds do not come true to type, so plants grown from seed will have unexpected traits, possibly including poor-quality fruit. Planting the seeds will not produce the same fruit quality in size, quantity, and taste that it came from. Best to get the same exact traits is to either grow through grafting, cuttings, or marcoting (air layering).

    • @randomperson9122
      @randomperson9122 2 роки тому +1

      But i did grow it from seed and it grew true to the fruit we had and the best thing is that they started flowering in the 2nd year itself.

    • @husch05
      @husch05 2 роки тому

      @@randomperson9122 It's because some fruits do grow similar to their parents. Peaches, nectarines, apricots for example usually grow to be very similar to their parents. Apples and pears are an extreme example, because the ones you see at supermarkets are nothing like the natural growing ones. Pomegranates tend to be a bit more unpredictable, but from what I have heard, they usually tend to still give good fruit. I'm growing two pomegranates myself which I started 4 months ago, but my climate isn't that ideal for growing them. I need to keep them in containers and move them to a cold place in my house when winter comes lol. Also, I think it's enjoyable to grow stuff from seed, even if they aren't 100% perfect like everyone that write these types of comments do.
