It’s refreshing to see a soft-spoken soldier. Other vets on UA-cam try too hard to act tough and make themselves look tacticool. But you’re a genuine, humble guy. Thank you for your service. 👍
Thank you. I like to be true to my person. I’m not going to come on here and pretend to be this hardcore yelling guy because I’m military. I see to many of those guys on here. Thank you for watching and your kind words.
Just found your channel. In the process of joining my local infantry reserves (canadian scottish). Have my tests in January. Decided to join because they recently opened up to permanent residents
My #1 thing i always tell people to get when they go to BMQ is a duplicate set of toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo etc) just sit on display for inspections. Good list Duncan!
Haha. I did the same thing I had duplicates of everything it worked for a while till the instructor clued into what I was doing since my soap and razor never looked used. I’ll put that in the do’s and don’t’s video most people are wanting to see. Thank you
I’m going for full time , this videos do help , a lot of the videos I find are more for reserves , I just want to make sure I’m following steps that are more oriented for full time , only because I’m not aware of how big the difference is
Thanks for this amazing video i will make sure to take go use of it ! But for me its gonna be so weird i try to prepare my self in the last month with Basic up serie and reloaded and check alots of video tips about ST-Jean But somone play with me hard and send me do my BMQ at Valcartier 13Feb because of Covid they split up groupe in multiple military base ... I was so minded about St-jean haha
It won’t be that different. From what I have heard from people who did basic at other bases it was a little bit easier then what it’s like at the mega you will do great.
- black cotton socks to prevent blisters, as opposed to issued military socks - bring cash and quarters for vending machines for food - bring voltaren, polysporin,Tylenol, NyQuil, fisherman drops/halls. Firstly, what quantity of voltaren, Tylenol, NyQuil, fisherman drops/halls do you recommend bringing? Another question, is there a link to a webpage where the CAF has recommendations on what to bring for BMQ? Also, are there any “battle buddying” assigned in BMQ, or is that only in the US Military Basic training?
I just used normal strength for every. And if you google basic training kit list on google it brings you to a government website with a list of things to bring. You do get a “battle buddy” but up here in Canada we normally call them fire team partner or FTPs I haven’t heard the team battle buddy that much.
@@DuncanDaysUA-cam Thanks for the response and the video content. Also, when I meant “quantity of voltaren, Tylenol, black cotton socks, fisherman drops”, I was wondering how much of each item would you recommend bringing?
I think just a normal size tube for the liquids I don’t know the sizes but you shouldn’t use all of it. And for the other items plus size or bigger sizes of cough drops and Tylenol like 100 plus tablets would and should be good. As for socks maybe 2-3 pairs as you will be doing laundry every night.
You want to know what to take to basic and to battle school? Listen to the recruiter! Plane and simple. Want to do some training before you go? Work out, do exercises. Start running. Start off easy and work up to running 2 miles a day. Learn to sew and iron. LEARN WHAT TEAM WORK IS! If you do not know what team work is by the time you get to basic, you well learn it or I doubt it if you well graduate.
When you’re in the type of setting as basic training you don’t really see age. You are all one big team and the ages can range. Normally it’s the young immature kids that get treated poor due to there actions or things they say. I wouldn’t worry about age. Cheers
great video! a do and dont vid would be great to see. Just had a quick question tho, what kind of luggage should you use? I have one of those hiking backpacks that can pack for at least 6 weeks or would a suitcase work better?
Bring a big suitcase. 1. Don’t fill it completely leave a lot of room as you will be buying stuff most likely and bring it home. 2. You will be wanting to bring back as much of your kit as you can do the extra room is very helpful. 3. It will be in storage the majority of the time you are there so you don’t have to worry about it taking up space. I brought a small suitcase and at the time I wish I had a bigger one. Where are you going for your basic? Do you know yet?
thanks this helps alot, i was talking to a recruiter during swearing and they said you could bring your own boots that look similar enough any recommendations?
For inspections I’d just put them in my desk drawer or in my barrack box. And then during the day while i was in class or what not I’d keep them locked up in my closet
Going to Bmq at November which will be remebrance day but should we bring our own money because I heard we will receive a pay in advance for our supplies at the canex. Another thing is we will receive military issued glasses heh
In this video you talked about bringing cash with you so you could spend it on beer or pizza during your 6th or 7th week. Dont you get paid during basic training? Do you not have access to your pay while you are there?
There is an ATM there but depending on where you go you might not have access to a BMO Bank. Now a lot has changed since I’ve gone. Due to Covid and having basic at many different bases things could now be different.
You don’t have access to ice packs unless you have a medical limitation or you are injured. I think you can get the ones that you break and they get hot or cold, but you have to bring them with you. I’ve never seen anyone use them or need them. Sorry
I’m 46 and waiting for my official start date and was wondering if we can bring the items you mentioned in your video with us in our luggage on day 1 or if we need to buy them at Cannex ? I am worried that if I buy them and bring them with me on day 1 they will confiscate them while conducting the luggage inspection they do. What do you think ?
Everything that I said in the video should not be confiscated during the day 1 luggage check. When it comes to the pain/ other medication use name brand over the counter that are un opened and you will be fine. Some of the items can be purchased from Canex but depending on your course you might not be able to go to canex for a while. Hope that this helps.
All information on what to bring is online and the your staff will also give you a list of things to bring with you. But yes you will need to bring your own running shoes.
What do you mean when you say 'not losing out and not making it through the entire course'? Can candidates fail out and be sent home? Can you try again?..
@@DuncanDaysUA-cam I don’t think that’s a concern then for me. My concern was being too physically unfit. Went for my first ruck early this morning. Filled a backpack with 70lbs and walked for 10km. Took me around 2hrs
