I am glad to see I am normal . Old bar because didn't change it . Radio issues on and on 😉 . At 67 I have those days and just keep a good additttude and finish the job . Your fun to watch. When I was younger I wanted to work in the woods . Now I can watch you with no sweating 😉 . Thanks for your videos. I will fall a few trees still and I learn from your skills . Have a safe time in the woods .

One of your best videos. The eye candy videos of falling big trees on steep hills with springboards and scaffolding are awesome, but hearing you thinking through the cutting sequence and then dealing with unforeseen complications was very educational. I hope you will do more of these in the future.

Geez! Could you get a smaller saw? Lol! One observation that I think many will agree with; even though you’re cutting for scale, you don’t take any shortcuts! Very VERY good examples of doing the job right!

Hey Buddy! Beautiful Day and you did some really good work there.
Those are more like what we see everyday...only we dont have near the variety of trees you do up there.
If we see Ponderosa Pine, Black Hills spruce & White or Blue Spruce in the same day it's a real interesting day.
95% of the time we cut Ponderosa and Black Hills Spruce. Thanks So much for taking the time to video all that and Thanks for taking us along. I have a BIG Live Black Hills Spruce that's blown over and is Top tied with one of the Bigger Aspens in the Tract were working and it hangs right over the Forest Service Road into where we want to put our last Landing for piling up our bucked logs. I wish I could show it to you and get your opinion...trouble is the One Aspen its tied into (and I mean its Jammed itself down into the main fork at the top of this big old Aspen really tight) so I have to fall the Aspen to get the Spruce down so we can buck and move it to get access to the road....trouble with that is it's in a really bad spot and frankly no matter what way I go with it it's going to be a real pain in the Butt.
Oh well maybe we'll get a good storm before we get to it and mother nature will cure the problem for me (hey one can dream right lol)
Be Careful out there and thanks again for hauling us along with you,
    R.C.

Every year I harvest an Oak on our property. This year I went our on a windy day when every thing was still frozen. Less water in the wood for fire wood. And I was on a hill side thought I would try a Humbult undercut not something we do on the east coast. I thought I kept plenty of holding wood. Luckily I plunge cut it and kept a trigger in the back. At ground level the wind didn't seem bad. So I cut the trigger and the tree ripped the holding wood went 90 degrees to the face cut. Landed on my bar and the power head pinned my foot. There was plenty of snow. I was very lucky. I had to cut a small maple it was hung up in. I have had to many close calls to count. I buy logs to heat with but you can't beat Oak heat.

Used to have Jeff Foster modify all my husky’s back in the day. Even saved a fresh 266. From my buddy’s garage. They call them hot saws now. Lol Best in the world he was. Especially his 288’s. Have to do my own now, 372 and 390 but they couldn’t even touch his. Course I’ve slowed down I’m old now but that man should be in the hall of fame. 🙏

Pushing those two cedars was a thing of beauty. And at 17:28 there's a perfect example of why you get away from the stump even of a little tree. That would've done some damage if you were still standing there.

It is good to see you using a 24" (Stihl 25") bar to drop those tree's. There is a thing about the West Coast guys have to use long bars and East Coast guy's can only handle a 24" bar. Love you video's I wish I could turn back time. My life choice's would be so different. It took me 57 years to figure out what I love to do. And now my body is so broken that I can't do them any more. I still try:) Thanks for the video's. I thought you were going to break a wedge on the tree you pushed over near the end.

Looking FWD to saw & related gear video. Think you running (currently/previous videos l have watched) a 572 & a 390? I haven't had my 390 that long but it is running rich. Dealer has tuned twice but plug is black, sounds flat, throws hot carbon chunks out the exhaust, runs amazing for 10 seconds before running out of fuel...
Would love to know how closely you/you guys follow how well ya saws are running, who jets them, do you sharpen your own stuff or contractor supplied some/all that.. how often you pull everything off ya saw (side, bar & air filter covers) and clean/blast out?

Are you still hand filing? Square ground chain and bars last almost forever, just squeeze them when the groove starts to widen too far. Thirty year faller here, all over the coast. Want to buy a good used grinder? I've got a well used and faithful Silvey Razor Sharp II for sale. Might even have a couple of stones for it kicking around. If you're interested for real I have a bar squeezer I could throw in.

What do you think is off with that bar? Tomorrow I'm getting a rail closing tool, gonna tighten the slot on my old Stihl lightweight bar that I just renosed, I just bought another one just like it and it really cuts nice, now to see if I can get the old one to come around maybe ill get it almost spiffy again. I also dress the rails square from time to time on a belt sander with a table that allows me to exactly 90° the rails, then I give it a light buff with a soft wheel, but up until now haven't closed any rails.

    • @batmantiss
      @batmantiss 3 роки тому +1

Honest question: is it cheaper to close the rails on your bars vs. buying new? Noses, yes, I agree. Never knew a guy could fill in the rail.
