Small correction, Samsung's smartwatches do show color with their always on displays. It just depends on the watchface. It's been on several generations.

Yes, the Samsung watches are the best thing on the Android side. Especially if you have a Samsung Phone (sms and email app). And while it does typically last longer the usability, or "user-friendlyness", still isn't on par with the Apple Watch. I think that's largely thanks to the square"er" screen as well though. It's simply better at displaying stuff. Also, I've never gotten more than around two days of battery life on my Samsung watches. They can last for four days, if you use them more lightly. The Apple Watch 4 didn't care what I did (except if I was using eSIM) but carried on to last for about two workdays.
Responding to 7:44, as an android user, Samsung to be precise, i use the galaxy watch, amd i don't think there is anything better out there. The galaxy store is limited in terms of 3rd party apps but Samsung already provides all the essentials, which are already good enough for me. To name a few features, standalone appstore, always on display, sleep tracking, multiple day battery life, decent fitness tracking features, auto workout detection, water resistance, samsung pay, stress level monitoring, spotify, ability to control other smart devices in the house etc. I still don't understand why they say the series 5 is "way ahead" of the pack, other than in terms of sales volume. Kindly balance me here🤷🏾♂️ I mean, the casing is stainless steel as standard, no need to pay extra for better materials!
Completely Agree, no way is an Apple watch better than any of the latest Samsung Galaxy or Gear watches. As you have mentioned, we have all of these features already. Apple is just catching up and attempting to make the world believe that they were first.
Just to piggy back on this, I can text back using the Samsung Gear being paired to my Pixel. Also, the watch has a third party watch face that works for me: it has the weather temp, date, steps count and battery %. It also has colors on ambient mode. It's like the reviewer trashed everyone else without doing research.

Get a Galaxy watch if you are on Android. 3 day battery. An always on display. Innovative rotating bezel. 5ATM water resistant (50 meters). Good software. Text message and calling support. Internet browsing. Sleep tracking. And all the other things you would expect to find in an apple watch. (with the exception of an ECG which is only on the watch active 2) The only flaw is that it's app ecosystem is much more limited. Also worth knowing is that the software has received a bit of an overhaul so it won't look the same or have the icons or animations as the review videos

Muhammad Keita I have the 4th gen but consumers won’t be able to buy one anymore it got discontinued. I think for 80% of the folks out there the 3 series will be more than enough watch for them. And it’s priced aggressively to destroy fit bit sales.
Just get the new model, it isn't like there is a big price difference. I already ordered by Series 5 LTE, even though Apple is only giving me $100 trade credit for my Series 4 LTE. A little bummed out about it, but no big deal.
Apple undersells the actual battery life, I have a Series 3 which is two years old, and even after being used all day every day I get almost 3 days use on a single charge (uses 30-40% every 24 hours). I also use a third party sleep tracker every night.

This is very bold statement to make saying series 5 is way ahead of the competition because of 3 or 4 features added, I have a galaxy sport and if I'm in need of an emergency I can send an sos message or ask someone to call me. My watch has always on display it had this for years and if the slightest bit of light hits the screen it dims the screen so u can see the time and wakes up once u lift ur wrist. Alot of these other features that series 5 bring I'm sure other manufacturers had them a long time ago.... Nothing to see here

For the exact reason he described. You can't glance at your watch to see the time without raising it up in an obvious way. Think sitting at a conference table in a meeting for example.
Good review but you didn’t even mention the increased storage capacity (now 32 GB on both the cellular and non-cellular models as compared to 16/8 GB on the series 4 cellular and non-cellular models respectively). That means more apps, more songs, more audiobooks without cellular service or data charges. I think that’s an important thing to consider if you’re trying to decide whether or not to upgrade.

I’ve been an Apple user for years. The best thing it has that no other company has is the strong economics across all devices. The frustrating thing about that though is the prices 😡 and the constant minor upgrades every year. I’m still using iPhone X, Apple Watch Series 3, AirPods 1st Gen and iPad Pro 12’. Connection across all is great still.

Teresa Young, Zombie Whisperer I never wore watches before the Apple Watch. But especially with the sports band you literally don’t feel this thing and forget it’s there. It’s become part of my wrist now. So much so that I forget to take it off in the shower or charge it some nights and then I look down and realize I’m still wearing it and/or the battery is dead.
Yeah that’s what happend with my series 1 I got it when I was 7 and I was really funny back then about watches but I’ve been wearing my mums fit bit for a bit as I am getting a series 5 and it feels fine so hopefully I can stand the Apple watch
My Gear S3 has a variety of other problems. Apple watch is ... customizability aside, so much better. Which is why I'm switching eco system. I don't have much hope in the near future for Android side wearables. Functionality wise I don't feel like the S3 is a giant step up from my old Pebble 2 (the wheel is super nice), whereas iPhone/Apple watch seems so much better integrated.
Zyfiel yes you can set the display to turn completely off like the series 4. Not sure how much that will improve battery, but likely just as good if not better than Series 4.
I see a potato. Tbh battery life isn’t an issue in my experience. They charge really quick too. Charge it at night, or while you’re in the shower. Easy charge all day, and night if you wear it
Agreed. My Samsung Gear Sport has 3-4 days battery life and does most of what this review says about Apple watch. There's not a single explanation in this review how Apple watch is way better.
Apple fanboys are not the most objective, unfortunately. This guy was gushing about how the Apple Watch is way ahead of the competition (and HIS reason is the watch can do things on iphone that other watches can't... well, DUH). Try out Samsung Gear S3 with a Samsung phone and you pretty much get the same experience, or in some cases even better. Samsung's rotating dial and interface is pretty damn good, and I've yet to see any bugs. Battery life? 2-3 days. The ONLY thing I would say Apple Watch is better, is the ECG and some of the health features they built in.
I don’t quite understand how people need to charge the series 4 every day. I workout at least 30 minutes a day, shut off my watch at night, and it lasts 2-3 days that way.
I don’t think we need to, but it takes 1 second to attach the charger so I do it anyway. I like starting the day with 100 percent but I could easily get 2 days even without shutting it off at night.

Android fanboys just don’t understand Apple. They don’t rush stuff out to try and be first. Ie, Samsung fold. They refine things, and deliver top notch quality. Getting one 😋 I will be upgrading from my series 1 to a series 5 I would continue to use the Series 1 except that I damaged the screen. Else I would have waited as the series 1 does what I need it to (track fitness and show me some notifications). The extra features like the always on display is a bonus (I'm fine with wrist flicking to check the time). I am usually in close proximity to my phone so cellular is not a need however I will be getting the stainless steel version which comes with the cellular feature so good to have and see if I actually end up using or if it enables me to leave my phone behind when doing certain tasks. Battery life has also not been a concern as of yet but I do look forward to some extended battery life for sleep tracking. Qi wireless charging is another bonus for when I am somewhere that offers it (airports/coffeeshops/etc) Waterproofing is something that I do look forward to (series 1 is only splash proof) as I always have to be careful to remove when by the pool, at the beach or in the shower. Im not the kinda guy that dunks my phone in the pool for a picture just because it is water resistant.
Steven Sam - Why not opt for the series 3... it’s still a vast improvement on the series 1 and a lot cheaper... I’m also sure you can get a series 4 cheaper now too
Paul D Hey, I did consider it and don’t get me wrong, the series 3 does do everything I would need it to. I am choosing to go for the Series 5 because I plan on using it long term just like i have the Series 1 To be honest. I actually bought the original Apple Watch, Series 0?, Apple upgraded me to the Series 1 when I has an issue and I didn’t even realize it until a few days later when i noticed the display was a bit brighter and apps were launching a much faster. In short, really haven’t upgraded since my original purchase over 4 years ago. I also travel a lot and mostly in Asia so the upgraded Cellular function on the Series 5 is great. Series 4 cellular doesn’t work in a bunch of countries in Asia especially in Sri Lanka and India where I usually am.

Nice review, love the shots and cinematography~ For the Android crowd - I personally haven't tried WearOS in a few years, but I can confidently say that the Galaxy watches are on par with everything that the Series 5 offers for iPhone users.
Though if we compare the Series 5 to the best current Galaxy Watch, the Galaxy Watch Active 2, the Series 5 got a bigger screen with a higher resolution compared to the Active 2, the processor in the Series 5 is a lot better compared to the Active 2 which means that the 5 will probably feel way snappier for way longer then the Active 2. Also, the Active 2 doesn't use WearOS, it uses Tizen and WatchOS 6 is still a little bit better then Tizen in terms of features, app support and software support. And one other big thing is that the Series 5 got 32GB of storage compared to 4GB of storage on the Galaxy Watch Active 2 which is a huge difference if you for example want to download songs to your watch!

Anthony ogegbene he was actually. By saying “welcome” it’s insinuating that the Apple Watch is joining the competition versus that watch. Apple is so far ahead in the watch market that there is no competition. Despite features that other watches have, when it gets added to the Apple Watch it’s just a bonus to something that’s already amazing and when Apple adds it the feature actually works really well and in a clever way. Just like an always on display that’s color and a LTPO screen to save battery life. It’s really smart.
I’m using a series 2 on watchOS 6. On WiFi, activity data syncs with the cloud, and you can download apps from the App Store (not working rn), but you can’t stream music/podcasts and you need an iPhone to change what songs/podcasts to sync. Phone calls and messages are available if you choose LTE. The battery life is inconsistent when your iPhone is not nearby. I wouldn’t recommend it if you have an Android tho, because you need an iPhone to set it up anyway. You can get an SE on eBay and sell it later, but you should just get a Fossil Sports, a Withings Move or a Galaxy Watch Active.
I have the 4. My main reason for owning this is because I have narcolepsy and have falls sometimes. It sends emergency messages to my emergency contacts when it detects a fall. This has saved my life. I’m glad not much has changed with the 5 so I don’t need to upgrade right now. Thanks for this awesome review
although i love the new design, hardware and features on the Apple Watch series 5... but since you keep saying there is no watch that comes even closer.. i wanted to check on a few things.. i have the Samsung Gear S3.. (i purchased this over 3 years back)- 1. I have infinite options to change bands.. as it is modular.. i can choose silicon.. metal.. mesh.. any thing.. any color.. and can keep changing it every day as per my look... 2. for the 'always on' display.. im not sure on the hardware so i won't comment on that.. but all of the faces on my watch have a always on version.. which is a less detailed, less animated, dimmed out version of the same watchface.. again, not sure about battery saving and refresh rate specifications.. i just know my watch goes easily upto 4 days if not connected with bluetooth, upto 2 days if connected with bluetooth.. and about a day and a half if i put on always on display. 3. my watch can get connected to apple phones as well and still be able to use 'almost all' of its features. how is it so far ahead from its competition when all of this has already been done and dusted with other watches over 3 years back?
the AW bands are modular too since first gen, you can remove them pushing a small button, and many options are available on Amazon the LTPO screen is invented by Apple, on AW4, it's basically an OLED screen with variable refresh rate and some other techs(if I'm not wrong), that can refresh the display once per second instead of 60 per second, allowing them to display a dimmed version of the watch faces, colored, without sacrificing battery, but battery life is still disappointing for me, I like Galaxy Watch Battery life any watch can be connected to iPhones, and AW can be connected to Android, but Samsung Gears has more features when they are connected to Samsung smartphones, same thing for AW, some features are available only on their proper platform, but AW excels on health feature and automatic health monitoring, that saved life of lots of users, I'm sure that the battery life is not as good as other brands due to screen force touch technology, taptic engine... that takes a lot of space inside the case, that is proven in new iPhones where the iPhone 11 Pro Max has like 24% more battery capacity after removing force touch from screen.

Fossil do make pretty good smart watches that are compatible with both iOS and Android - the difference is the price tag (although watch series 3 is now closer to Fossils price)... But the integration between Apple Watch and iOS is what makes it work. At the end of the day it depends on what you need a smart watch for and how much you are willing to pay - $400 is a lot for some people when a $150 watch is good enough (it might not be fast and great, but it gets the job done). I think Apple really need to make a companion app for android users OR make an Apple Watch that is completely independent ... they are missing out on anyone that doesnt have an iphone

@@Ara198826 3-4 days battery life will eventually come with the micro led displays on the coming iWatches. they consume way less power, than OLEDs and there will be a new processor.
Small correction, Samsung's smartwatches do show color with their always on displays. It just depends on the watchface. It's been on several generations.

Yes, the Samsung watches are the best thing on the Android side. Especially if you have a Samsung Phone (sms and email app). And while it does typically last longer the usability, or "user-friendlyness", still isn't on par with the Apple Watch. I think that's largely thanks to the square"er" screen as well though. It's simply better at displaying stuff. Also, I've never gotten more than around two days of battery life on my Samsung watches. They can last for four days, if you use them more lightly. The Apple Watch 4 didn't care what I did (except if I was using eSIM) but carried on to last for about two workdays.

Responding to 7:44, as an android user, Samsung to be precise, i use the galaxy watch, amd i don't think there is anything better out there. The galaxy store is limited in terms of 3rd party apps but Samsung already provides all the essentials, which are already good enough for me. To name a few features, standalone appstore, always on display, sleep tracking, multiple day battery life, decent fitness tracking features, auto workout detection, water resistance, samsung pay, stress level monitoring, spotify, ability to control other smart devices in the house etc. I still don't understand why they say the series 5 is "way ahead" of the pack, other than in terms of sales volume. Kindly balance me here🤷🏾♂️

Completely Agree, no way is an Apple watch better than any of the latest Samsung Galaxy or Gear watches. As you have mentioned, we have all of these features already. Apple is just catching up and attempting to make the world believe that they were first.

Just to piggy back on this, I can text back using the Samsung Gear being paired to my Pixel. Also, the watch has a third party watch face that works for me: it has the weather temp, date, steps count and battery %. It also has colors on ambient mode. It's like the reviewer trashed everyone else without doing research.

Get a Galaxy watch if you are on Android. 3 day battery. An always on display. Innovative rotating bezel. 5ATM water resistant (50 meters). Good software. Text message and calling support. Internet browsing. Sleep tracking. And all the other things you would expect to find in an apple watch. (with the exception of an ECG which is only on the watch active 2)
The only flaw is that it's app ecosystem is much more limited.
Also worth knowing is that the software has received a bit of an overhaul so it won't look the same or have the icons or animations as the review videos

Apple undersells the actual battery life, I have a Series 3 which is two years old, and even after being used all day every day I get almost 3 days use on a single charge (uses 30-40% every 24 hours). I also use a third party sleep tracker every night.
So what makes this so much better than the competition again? I honestly watched the entire video and am not impressed. All I saw was a guy that really liked the Apple watch

This is very bold statement to make saying series 5 is way ahead of the competition because of 3 or 4 features added, I have a galaxy sport and if I'm in need of an emergency I can send an sos message or ask someone to call me. My watch has always on display it had this for years and if the slightest bit of light hits the screen it dims the screen so u can see the time and wakes up once u lift ur wrist. Alot of these other features that series 5 bring I'm sure other manufacturers had them a long time ago.... Nothing to see here

For the exact reason he described. You can't glance at your watch to see the time without raising it up in an obvious way. Think sitting at a conference table in a meeting for example.

Good review but you didn’t even mention the increased storage capacity (now 32 GB on both the cellular and non-cellular models as compared to 16/8 GB on the series 4 cellular and non-cellular models respectively). That means more apps, more songs, more audiobooks without cellular service or data charges. I think that’s an important thing to consider if you’re trying to decide whether or not to upgrade.

I’ve been an Apple user for years. The best thing it has that no other company has is the strong economics across all devices. The frustrating thing about that though is the prices 😡 and the constant minor upgrades every year. I’m still using iPhone X, Apple Watch Series 3, AirPods 1st Gen and iPad Pro 12’. Connection across all is great still.

My gear S3 already had always on display and it launched in 2017... Don't know what the hating on other smartwatches is about.
My Gear S3 has a variety of other problems. Apple watch is ... customizability aside, so much better. Which is why I'm switching eco system. I don't have much hope in the near future for Android side wearables. Functionality wise I don't feel like the S3 is a giant step up from my old Pebble 2 (the wheel is super nice), whereas iPhone/Apple watch seems so much better integrated.

Zyfiel yes you can set the display to turn completely off like the series 4. Not sure how much that will improve battery, but likely just as good if not better than Series 4.

Tbh battery life isn’t an issue in my experience. They charge really quick too. Charge it at night, or while you’re in the shower. Easy charge all day, and night if you wear it

Apple fanboys are not the most objective, unfortunately. This guy was gushing about how the Apple Watch is way ahead of the competition (and HIS reason is the watch can do things on iphone that other watches can't... well, DUH). Try out Samsung Gear S3 with a Samsung phone and you pretty much get the same experience, or in some cases even better. Samsung's rotating dial and interface is pretty damn good, and I've yet to see any bugs. Battery life? 2-3 days. The ONLY thing I would say Apple Watch is better, is the ECG and some of the health features they built in.
I have the Galaxy Watch, and Tizen is just the best and most intuitive watch OS there is out there.

I don’t think we need to, but it takes 1 second to attach the charger so I do it anyway. I like starting the day with 100 percent but I could easily get 2 days even without shutting it off at night.

Getting one 😋 I will be upgrading from my series 1 to a series 5
I would continue to use the Series 1 except that I damaged the screen. Else I would have waited as the series 1 does what I need it to (track fitness and show me some notifications).
The extra features like the always on display is a bonus (I'm fine with wrist flicking to check the time).
I am usually in close proximity to my phone so cellular is not a need however I will be getting the stainless steel version which comes with the cellular feature so good to have and see if I actually end up using or if it enables me to leave my phone behind when doing certain tasks.
Battery life has also not been a concern as of yet but I do look forward to some extended battery life for sleep tracking. Qi wireless charging is another bonus for when I am somewhere that offers it (airports/coffeeshops/etc)
Waterproofing is something that I do look forward to (series 1 is only splash proof) as I always have to be careful to remove when by the pool, at the beach or in the shower. Im not the kinda guy that dunks my phone in the pool for a picture just because it is water resistant.

To be honest. I actually bought the original Apple Watch, Series 0?, Apple upgraded me to the Series 1 when I has an issue and I didn’t even realize it until a few days later when i noticed the display was a bit brighter and apps were launching a much faster. In short, really haven’t upgraded since my original purchase over 4 years ago.
I also travel a lot and mostly in Asia so the upgraded Cellular function on the Series 5 is great. Series 4 cellular doesn’t work in a bunch of countries in Asia especially in Sri Lanka and India where I usually am.

For the Android crowd - I personally haven't tried WearOS in a few years, but I can confidently say that the Galaxy watches are on par with everything that the Series 5 offers for iPhone users.
Though if we compare the Series 5 to the best current Galaxy Watch, the Galaxy Watch Active 2, the Series 5 got a bigger screen with a higher resolution compared to the Active 2, the processor in the Series 5 is a lot better compared to the Active 2 which means that the 5 will probably feel way snappier for way longer then the Active 2. Also, the Active 2 doesn't use WearOS, it uses Tizen and WatchOS 6 is still a little bit better then Tizen in terms of features, app support and software support. And one other big thing is that the Series 5 got 32GB of storage compared to 4GB of storage on the Galaxy Watch Active 2 which is a huge difference if you for example want to download songs to your watch!
LTPO display technology is the real innovation by Apple and no one is actually giving credit or talking about it.

Anthony ogegbene he was actually. By saying “welcome” it’s insinuating that the Apple Watch is joining the competition versus that watch. Apple is so far ahead in the watch market that there is no competition. Despite features that other watches have, when it gets added to the Apple Watch it’s just a bonus to something that’s already amazing and when Apple adds it the feature actually works really well and in a clever way. Just like an always on display that’s color and a LTPO screen to save battery life. It’s really smart.

I like the watch but I am an android user.
I’m using a series 2 on watchOS 6. On WiFi, activity data syncs with the cloud, and you can download apps from the App Store (not working rn), but you can’t stream music/podcasts and you need an iPhone to change what songs/podcasts to sync. Phone calls and messages are available if you choose LTE. The battery life is inconsistent when your iPhone is not nearby. I wouldn’t recommend it if you have an Android tho, because you need an iPhone to set it up anyway. You can get an SE on eBay and sell it later, but you should just get a Fossil Sports, a Withings Move or a Galaxy Watch Active.
Other than tell you which direction you're pointing, not much.

I have the 4. My main reason for owning this is because I have narcolepsy and have falls sometimes. It sends emergency messages to my emergency contacts when it detects a fall. This has saved my life. I’m glad not much has changed with the 5 so I don’t need to upgrade right now. Thanks for this awesome review
although i love the new design, hardware and features on the Apple Watch series 5... but since you keep saying there is no watch that comes even closer.. i wanted to check on a few things..
i have the Samsung Gear S3.. (i purchased this over 3 years back)-
1. I have infinite options to change bands.. as it is modular.. i can choose silicon.. metal.. mesh.. any thing.. any color.. and can keep changing it every day as per my look...
2. for the 'always on' display.. im not sure on the hardware so i won't comment on that.. but all of the faces on my watch have a always on version.. which is a less detailed, less animated, dimmed out version of the same watchface.. again, not sure about battery saving and refresh rate specifications.. i just know my watch goes easily upto 4 days if not connected with bluetooth, upto 2 days if connected with bluetooth.. and about a day and a half if i put on always on display.
3. my watch can get connected to apple phones as well and still be able to use 'almost all' of its features.
how is it so far ahead from its competition when all of this has already been done and dusted with other watches over 3 years back?

the AW bands are modular too since first gen, you can remove them pushing a small button, and many options are available on Amazon
the LTPO screen is invented by Apple, on AW4, it's basically an OLED screen with variable refresh rate and some other techs(if I'm not wrong), that can refresh the display once per second instead of 60 per second, allowing them to display a dimmed version of the watch faces, colored, without sacrificing battery, but battery life is still disappointing for me, I like Galaxy Watch Battery life
any watch can be connected to iPhones, and AW can be connected to Android, but Samsung Gears has more features when they are connected to Samsung smartphones, same thing for AW, some features are available only on their proper platform,
but AW excels on health feature and automatic health monitoring, that saved life of lots of users,
I'm sure that the battery life is not as good as other brands due to screen force touch technology, taptic engine... that takes a lot of space inside the case, that is proven in new iPhones where the iPhone 11 Pro Max has like 24% more battery capacity after removing force touch from screen.

Jormungandr it’s like the other companies are ok with apple being dominant in these 2 markets.. still hasn’t made sense. Although I think what it’s gunna take is for a company to develop hardware that optimizes super well to the hardware and the software looks “cohesive.” Hmm maybe a similar approach to... surprise, Apple. IMO

Fossil do make pretty good smart watches that are compatible with both iOS and Android - the difference is the price tag (although watch series 3 is now closer to Fossils price)... But the integration between Apple Watch and iOS is what makes it work.
At the end of the day it depends on what you need a smart watch for and how much you are willing to pay - $400 is a lot for some people when a $150 watch is good enough (it might not be fast and great, but it gets the job done).
I think Apple really need to make a companion app for android users OR make an Apple Watch that is completely independent ... they are missing out on anyone that doesnt have an iphone
