Porsche 914/6 Targa Racing Cars Tribute - Flat-Six Engine Sound - Historic Hillclimbs & Circuits

- This video is dedicated to some Porsche 914/6 Targa in a racing version that I have had the pleasure of seeing in action in recent years. The clips were made in historic Hillclimb races such as Bologna-San Luca and Bologna-Raticosa. Others on tracks like Mugello and Misano and at Vernasca Silver Flag, a dynamic revival for vintage cars. The Porsche 914 is a less common model than the 911; it's a sports car with a removable roof born from the collaboration between the VW group and Porsche. The peculiarity lies in the central-rear engine's which reached its peak with the introduction of the 2.0-litre flat-six already in use on the 911 model. The 914/6 GT and 914/6 R versions introduced in the early 70s were the perfect basis for creating a racing variant to obtain homologation in group 4. These racing versions with a weight of around 900Kg, and a power of over 200hp at 8,000 rpm, moved by a 5-speed manual gearbox, they were extremely fast.

Questo video è dedicate ad alcune Porsche 914/6 Targa in versione racing che ho avuto il piacere di vedere in azione negli ultimi anni. I filmati sono stati effettuate in cronoscalate per vetture storiche come Bologna-San Luca e Bologna-Raticosa. Altri invece su piste come Mugello e Misano oltre che alla Vernasca Silver Flag, rievocazione dinamica per vetture d'epoca. La porsche 914 è un modello poco diffuso rispetto alla 911, si tratta di una vettura sportiva con tetto asportabile nata dalla collaborazione fra il gruppo VW e la Porsche. La particolarità risiede nel collocamento del motore in posizione centrale-posteriore che ha raggiunto il suo apice con l'introduzione del flat-six da 2.0-litri già in uso sul modello 911. La versioni 914/6 GT e 914/6 R introdotti agli inizi degli anni 70 erano la base perfetta per realizzare una variante da corsa tanto da ottenere l'omologazione in gruppo 4. Queste versioni da gara con un peso attorno ai 900Kg, ed una potenza di oltre 200 cv ad 8.000 giri/min, mosse da un cambio manuale a 5 rapporti, risultarono estremamente veloci.

I’ve always had a soft spot for this car and i saw one today for the first time! It’s a lot smaller than i thought it would be.
If I could, I would buy one; I think it is a fantastic car; I like the fact that it is compact, shallow and well planted on the ground. The mid-engine is excellent. It hasn't had all the success it deserved, the 911 always overshadows every Porsche car, but it remains a real gem.

Mit seinem 6 Zylinder Boxer war er schon damals untermotorisiert. Aber zumindest ist er leicht. Hier heißt er nur VW-Porsche.

@@vopo9142 gut erkannt. Mit seinen 110 PS Motor im 914 war er damals genauso schnell wie der 911 t mit 125 PS. Und auch viel agiler als der mit 130 PS.
Der 914.6 sollte nur 110 PS haben. Aber es gab Streuungen nach oben bis 125 PS und mehr. Das war Porsche ziemlich peinlich, weil einige Kunden verärgert waren, weil sie auf der Autobahn von einem VOLKSPORSCHE überholt wurden. 😉

Radiators may be a problem...
Most small block V8's fit with minor mods. but the axels need to be upgraded. The radiators go in the frunk.
Probably not that specific engine but it's been done before. It's as cool as it sounds.

Only 2 litres
Many have been upgraded to 2.4S engines. I put 100,000 miles on mine. With almost double the power of the ogininal you drove it with the throttle pedal. The high revs of the S engine made it really sing with straight pipes.
