Are you looking to install a UV or thinking about changing from flexi tubing to hard plumbing?

I just installed a brand new Deltec UV 39 watts system, your video helped a lot. Unfortunately when I put the power on , the system is showing a red led indicator with a buzzing sound, I am not able to understand why. 😢

@RudraPGupta Hi, I'm pleased my video was able to help you.
On my Deltec UV, there is a rocker switch on the wire, and if I turn this off, it will then show the red light and sound the little alarm. Have you tried switching the rocker switch?
It also says on the box that the little alarm will sound if the bulb isn't working.
Have you plumbed it in with the clear hosetail? Can you see if the UV light is on or not?

@@ReefDrama Hi! I didn’t use the clear hosetail and therefore can’t understand if it is working. I was using the switch in built and I thought that’s to be used and I am switching it on. Then I see a green light quickly switching to Red with the buzzing sound.
The switch has a mark on one side that’s what I am considering the on side.
I saw the message on the adapter that if the bulb isn’t working the alarm will sound. I checked the bulb by taking it out and didn’t see any problems. However am no expert. The filament looked intact. As this a brand new device quite disappointed

    Couple things that will help you out;
    - All your return water to the tank needs to go through the UV in order to be fully effective, all of it!
    - Size of that unit is WAY to small for that size tank.
    - ALL UV units have a quartz sleeve and bulb, don't swallow marketing with red flags like "double" in them
    - Mount the union connections so they are facing down so when you disconnect the UV unit the water is always drained below the union connections
    - Mount the UV unit on an angle with both outlets facing down, this will allow you access to the bulb for replacement and sleeve for cleaning without having to remove the unit
    - UV must run all the time, if water is running it needs to be turned on
    - Do not turn a UV back on if it has been off for more than a few hours, the wet side of the sleeve must be cleaned first before turning back on (another reason to make it easy to get at bulb and sleeve)
When you see ratings on the use of UV sterilizers in aquaculture, the ratings for volume are for ALL the water going into the system to be going through a UV unit. So when you are looking at purchasing your UV, you need a high enough wattage to manage/treat all the water you are pumping from the filter/sump into the tank so all water entering the "system" is being treated appropriately with UV before being recirculated (single pass eradication). So for a 50gal tank, that is going to be around to 55-120W of UV.

Thanks for your great comment. Unfortunately, mine is mounted now, and will have to stay that way. Most people say to have it upright, but if you have to have it horizontal, then have it at a slight angle. I don't need to remove my unit to replace the bulb/ sleeve, only unscrew it from the cabinet and remove the upper union. It will then pivot on the lower slightly loosened union to the angle I need to remove the bulb. The next size up is like 3ft long. I've got nowhere to put something like that. Maybe if I had a basement or a fish room behind my tank, then it would be possible, but for my tank, I went with what I thought was the best option. I do need to reduce the flow, though, and will need to buy a new pump. Great info about not turning back on the UV if it's been off a few hours. I did not know this.

55 w to 120 w wtf!!! You need some bacteria to survive for your corals lol! Way oversized your one is perfect for your tank and I’m using the same one on 55 gallon tank. Would of been good to show others how to put the sleeve and bulb in good video though thx

Hi, Fantastic video very informative i need a favour could you tell me the exact length of the unit when fitted complete with the power cable connection as I have a very tight space to work in, many thanks

Hi, thank you very much 😊
The total length is 21 inches. That's not including the plastic Ferrero Rocher container I put it on and having a small bend in the top of the cable.
Just incase you need to know, the screws on each feet are 15.25 inches apart.

Well done. I have the DD 10 watt. Blew a bulb when i switched off pump but left bulb on. This may or not have caused it. Is there any way you could put a clear piece of tubing in to check bulb is on? I used the hosetails, so i know my bulb is functioning.

    • @ReefDrama

Hi, thank you. Yeah, I think that is an issue if the water stops, but the bulb stays on. Or it can overheat, too. I guess that's a good thing with my setup, is if the pump stops, the water just goes backwards to the sump! Lol. A section of clear pipe right by the UV would have been an awesome idea, but unfortunately, it's too late now 😞 And I thought I had thought of everything!! Haha.
