If you are only recording one input at a time that is mono. Each input is mono on the Audient id4. What is probably happening is you might be trying to record to a stereo track so you would only hear one side. Input one left and input 2 right. When you enable the monitor mix you aren’t hearing it in stereo. You’re hearing it in mono but on both sides. Try recording to a mono track in your DAW of choice and you won’t have the “one side” issue. Some budget friendly audio interfaces will record mono to both sides of a stereo track which is what was probably happening with your sound blaster. @@muziknusantara with pretty much every audio interface each channel will be mono. Some mixers that have USB interfaces built in will have stereo channels. Your soundblaster sound card likely has a stereo line input as most sound cards do. What most people do for stereo recording in an audio interface is get one that has 2 line inputs or 2 mic inputs and they will connect to it either with a splitter cable or two separate cables. Your id4 does have 2 channels so you could try that but one input is an instrument input so the levels will be different. It sucks that you can’t return it.
Great video, Zane? I'm recording electric guitar into my Audient ID4 Guitar input and use Logic Pro X. I notice that even when my GAIN is turned completely OFF on the ID4 I still see plenty of 'movement' in the track meter. When I dial up the gain in the ID4 I then see that I can make the signal hotter as the meter goes even higher, but the truth is that the signal is already nearly high enough even with the gain turned OFF. My question is this: Should the track meter show movement when playing guitar even if the interface gain is OFF? Is there still a strong signal coming from the ID4 or should there be ZERO signal if the gain knob is OFF? I would think that there would be no movement at all in the meter as there should not be any signal coming into the track from the ID4 but maybe I'm wrong. I am worried that what I am seeing in the meter (while the ID4 gain is OFF) is possibly a routing issue in the ID4 software (?) but I cannot find anything that might cause this. It seems like 2 signals are getting in there. One when I dial up the gain knob (which is good) and the other from who knows where, or is it just bleeding through from the ID4 somehow. Can you comment on this? I just cannot figure out why this is happening.
Awesome review!! I've been hearing that the iD4 can get hot while in use. Did you notice any over heating or significant increase of the temperature of the unit???
I haven't noticed any heat issues but I haven't been actively paying attention to that. I'll have to pay attention to that the next time I record with it. Thank you for watching. Keep creating! 👊👍

Inputs and outputs are 2 separate things so yes you can have monitors plugged in at the same time as a microphone. You can also have 2 pairs of headphones connected at the same time and an instrument like a guitar or other instrument level device. It’s one of the higher tier 2 input interfaces so if you want something that is top quality then this one is a great choice for any genre of music.

How do you do it?
Hey Man I’m late to the party on this video but great info. I was wondering Would it hurt if I still used a mic pre then going into this, or would I no longer need my mic pre?? I’m looking to purchase on of these in the next few days. Thanks in advance for your advice
You can still use a mic pre with it if you want. Maybe you like the character of your external pre so keep it. But the built in mic pre is very nice. It’s apparently the same mic pre that they include in their studio consoles. It’s the same as the one in my id44 and I use that one often. It has a very nice smooth sound to it. But I do also use an external pre (GAP 73) sometimes too because I like the character on some things.
I got a question for you I am using a Line 6 POD GO amp modeler for my guitar. for the best recording should my Mono out from the Pod Go go into in the DI Input or the XLR input?
I just bought this audio interface. What I noticed is that it doesn't have a mute button for the mic how do you deal with that? Also There is not power button is it okey to leave it on 24x7?
Audio interfaces typically don’t have mute buttons. You could use the gain control to turn the volume up or down. Or whatever program you are streaming in likely will have a mute button, there might even be a keyboard shortcut to enable and disable mute. I have a usb midi controller that has mute buttons on it and that works for most programs. You could also get an external mixer and connect that to the interface and mixers have mute buttons. If you don’t want to spend more money on something for the task, I recommend looking into the mute options in your software and see if there is a shortcut. As for power button, i’m pretty sure most smaller interfaces don’t have them so if you leave your computer on 24/7, you could either leave it plugged in and turned on 24/7 it shouldn’t hurt it but if you are worried just unplug it and then plug it back in when you’re using it again. The smaller audio interfaces are designed to be connected and disconnected.
Hello which output or input shoul I selected my interface on cakewalk:Analogue 1 Analogue 2 Analogue1+analogue 2 I have problems And when I record my guitar it show two line on the track
You want to plug your guitar into the front instrument input. Then in Cakewak select analogue 2. You don’t want the option with 1&2 as that would record both inputs at the same time into one stereo track.

I haven’t studied them too closely but so far I am not noticing a difference between my id44 and the id4 mkii. I was actually super impressed with my first recordings with the id4 mkii. The audio quality of this little interface is very nice. But like I said I haven’t done any in depth analysis comparing the two.
Thanx for getting back to me. Im asking because I bought id14 mkll but haven't directly compared it to the id44. I also have an Apogee Symphony mk l and a Focusrite clarett 8prex and so far im really impressed with the Id14 mkll. I could use either of them and not feel like I'm losing quality.
The big knob is made out of the same material as the smaller knobs. I'm not sure what type of metal but they feel solid. The 2 small buttons are plastic but feel like a quality plastic. It feels like a very well built interface.
@@AudioTechTV Awesome, thanks for your answer! Guess I'll take the Audient then. Was thinking about thee Scarlett Solo or the Rode AI-1, but you video changed my mind. My plan was to get a Rode Procaster with accessories, an audio interface and a mic booster (Klark Teknik CM-1). Should be a decent set-up..? (I'm an audio noob, just started developing my interest)
“Better” is all about personal preference. The mic preamp in this is great. The DI input is excellent too. The converters are also top notch for an interface of this size. So to a lot of people it may sound great as is. If you’re wanting to add compression or EQ on the way in then find a compressor and EQ that you like and record through those to print the sound to the recording. It’s all about personal preference. I tend to record through a Golden Age Project Pre73 mkiii mic preamp and sometimes I’ll add a hardware compressor. Do I need these things? No. But they give me a bit of a different sound and variety. I still record direct sometimes too and then add effects after. If you are having a specific issue with something not sounding good going in then it could be the mic or instrument that you’re using or maybe even the cable that’s connecting them. If you think your source audio is too muddy, maybe your levels are too low. If things are clipping going in then maybe your levels are too high. This audio interface can deliver great quality as is and then you can use software plugins to add the character that you want to all of your recordings.
if i plug in one cable with usb C in one end into the interface and the other end of the cable which is USB 3.0 type A into my PC is it also going to make the headphone output weaker?
It shouldn’t. I used an adapter to connect mine to a USB 3 type a and it still had plenty of headphone power for my Beyerdynamic DT 770 250 ohm headphones.
I midi input on this one. You can use a USB midi expression pedal if you wanted. If it’s an expression pedal for a midi keyboard most decent midi keyboards will have midi input and outputs on them so you can connect expression pedals or other midi gear.

@@paulatreides1354 that pedal that you linked to is a USB midi device. So you would connect it to a separate USB port on your computer. In your software you would enable it in the midi section and then you can assign it to control whatever you want. It all depends on the software you use on how you set it up and get it to work but it should be pretty straight forward with all of them. The pedal company probably has quite a few articles on using it with different software. But your audio interface will be for audio so connect your guitar through that. The pedal is midi and will be configured in your midi settings. You don’t need to plug it into the audio interface.

I have two options: a NEW ID4 MK2 at Full Price OR a sparingly USED ID4 at Half Price. I have a Windows 10 Laptop. Which one would you recommend? Thanks in advance!
Either option will give you great results. I never used the id4 (original version) but I think the mic preamps are the same and I've heard great things about the original. I can't personally comment on the quality of the original but I can tell you that the MKii version is very nice.
@@AudioTechTV Thanks for your prompt response. Any ideas on the Motu M2? It has an additional input. Might be useful to have for two narrators or an interview format.
There are noticeable differences. However It really depends on what you're recording. If you're making rock music with a lot of distortion and effects then you may not notice the difference as much. But if you want to capture a quality vocal or acoustic tracks, you may want to upgrade. This gives you 24 bit recording where the UMC22 is 16 bit. The mic preamps in this are much nicer and so are the converters. You will capture much cleaner audio with this but whether you should upgrade or not is up to you. The UMC22 can still help you to record decent quality tracks at home and you already have it.
@@simonebarbella4118 if you’re just recording a vocal track and aren’t layering a bunch of recorded tracks the difference may not be extremely huge. Are you recording with a quality microphone?
@@simonebarbella4118 with the C1 you likely wouldn’t notice a huge difference. But if you do plan on upgrading your mic you might want to upgrade the interface to get some better mic preamps to go with the better mic. @@CasmurMusic Bro educate yourself before defending anything. 250 ohm headphones require significantly more power to get loud unlike your 19 ohm beats by dre and most cases it requires headphone amp. It's not Beyerdynamics problem by any means, it's Audio Interface problem.
hi ,great video and hope you are having a great time right now, I'm plugging my electric guitar directly into the electric guitar input of the audient id4 mkii interface but even when I crank the gain up to max level it still won't clip and at max gain my guitar signal is around -6db. and if I put the gain level at 12 pm the signal will be at -36 which is really low, I haven't changed my strings for months could the low signal be because of that? I don't know if this is normal or not, would be glad if you could guide me please? thank you so much .
That seems really low. I don’t think it has to do with your strings. Have you tried this guitar with a different interface? Is it really low when you plug it into an amp? What I would suggest is to try another cable to make sure it’s not the cable. Also make sure it’s not your guitars output jack. Wiggle the cable a bit to see if that helps.
@@AudioTechTV hey thanks for taking the time to reply, I've plugged my guitar to an amp and there's no problem and i replaced the cable so the problem is not from cable, I forgot to mention that the situation that i explained is when i turn the monitor mix all the way down to input, but when I turn the monitor mix to daw -12db or even -6db at 12pm
I don’t have a TLM 103 but I would think it should have plenty of gain to power it because that’s a condenser mic so it doesn’t need a lot of gain and the Audient audio interfaces have a lot of clean gain. If you mean the actual phantom power then yes. It has 48v phantom power which is what is required for the TLM103.
You can’t connect a midi keyboard directly to this interface but most midi keyboards are USB so you could connect it to another USB port and use the midi keyboard at the same time as the interface.
If you already have the ID4 MKI and you aren't having issues with it then it probably isn't worth the upgrade. If anything maybe upgrade to the ID14 then at least you're adding some i/o.
I haven’t tried the motu m2 so I can’t comment on it. But I think if you’re debating between the m2 and an Audient product you might want to consider the id14 as it has 2 mic pres like the m2. And the id14 also has more outputs. I own the Audient id4 and id44 and I’m extremely happy with the audio quality, and the build quality of both units. The Motu looks decent, and has good reviews, it also has midi connections if that’s something you need. The specs look great on it too. You probably won’t go wrong with either choice.
I've used 38 ohm headphones without any issues. Low impedance headphones shouldn't be a problem just make sure you keep the headphone volume low so you don't overload them.
There are some differences. They've updated the converters and you get more dynamic range, more headphone power and some other spec updates. If you already own an id4 and are happy with it then there's no need to update but if you are looking at purchasing one and you're deciding between the 2, go with the MKii.
How reliable has it been if you don't mind me asking. I've heard a lot of stories about the iD drivers mucking up on windows and I don't know if it's gotten better these days. I know Audient's Evo series is pretty reliable on windows.
I haven't had any issues with the iD4 and I use an Audient iD44 as my main interface and have never had any issues with that driver either. Both iD interfaces have been solid. I mainly use the iD4 with my laptop which isn't the greatest laptop, and it hasn't caused issues and that's the computer I would expect any issues to pop up on.
@@harv9524 it’s definitely better than the Scarlett in my opinion. But the id44 is definitely better but if you just need a 2 channel portable audio interface the id4 mkii is a great choice and will deliver excellent quality recordings. I’m very impressed with the id4 mkii.
Audient is an amazing toy, but be aware of driver issues, if you need something stable look somewhere else. I personally had issues with fw update and also find it stuttering on my 2020 MBP from time to time. It is not much, 1-3 seconds and 1-3 times per day, but it is annoying.
I’ve been using my ID44 for quite a long time and haven’t had any driver issues the thing has been super stable with excellent latency always. But I can understand how everyone’s system may be different and settings are all different. So there is bound to be issues with some users but that goes for any interface.

So it's not really what I'm going for. The local seller refused to accept return even if it was just a day old and I have not registered nor activated the warranty nor downloaded the bundled freebies..(the return policy here is terrible). I should've stick to buying from Amazon with their no-nonsense return policy - just because I wanted to save a few dollars... my bad! Thanks for you help.

How about an Antelope GO review? May be the one to beat at under $500.
Can I connect both mic and studio monitors at the same time on this interface? Is it worth for a home setup for a music producer and rapper?
Inputs and outputs are 2 separate things so yes you can have monitors plugged in at the same time as a microphone. You can also have 2 pairs of headphones connected at the same time and an instrument like a guitar or other instrument level device.
It’s one of the higher tier 2 input interfaces so if you want something that is top quality then this one is a great choice for any genre of music.
Great review!!
What should i choose?
The price here in Sweden is 15 dollar between EVO 4 and ID4 Mkii (more expensive).
- I have Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro 250Ohm headphones, AKG D5 microphone and Edifier 1855DB speakers. I want the device to drive them all for gaming, listening to music and watching videos.
- I want to switch audio source between Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro and Edifier 1855DB easy, which one is the best for that?
- I want to drive my AKG D5 microphone to a good level without having to go 90-100 % gain.
- Can you mute/unmute microphone quickly on iD4 Mkii?

Can we customerize the volume knob with iD switch for various tasks
Which one is beter focusrite3rdgen or audient id4?
How do I mute my mic?
@@AudioTechTV thank you for the detailed answer. Appreciate it.
Hello which output or input shoul I selected my interface on cakewalk:Analogue 1
Analogue 2
Analogue1+analogue 2 I have problems
And when I record my guitar it show two line on the track
You want to plug your guitar into the front instrument input. Then in Cakewak select analogue 2. You don’t want the option with 1&2 as that would record both inputs at the same time into one stereo track.
Thanks 🙏 I watch the video you make cake walk beginer and it help me a lot thanks
Waiting for more cakewalk video can you make voice mixing for beginners on cakewalk

Could you please tell me if the Audient iD4 MkII works correctly (enough power) to use a headphone Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro in 250 Ohm ? Or, should I choose a 80 Ohm version ? Thank you !
I use the dt770 250 ohm with it and it can power them no problem.
Help me decide guys( I have the dt770 250ohms headphone + shure pga48 dynamic Mic) 1=id4 mkii 2=evo4 3=m-audio air 192|4 which one do I buy?
Out of those options the id4 is the best one. It can power those headphones no problem. It has the better mic preamp too.
Bro how does the id4 mkll/ id14 mkll compare to the ID44 converter quality? (soundwise)
That’s exactly how I feel with the id4 mkii and the id44. I can use them both and not worry.
can i connect the ID4 mk ii to my windows pc 3.1 Gen2 type-c connector?
Yes that will work! Thank you for watching. Keep creating! 👊👍
Are all the knobs made out of metal, or only the small ones? Couldn’t find that info anywhere. Thanks a lot in advance!
(I'm an audio noob, just started developing my interest)
loopback work?
I have the same interface. In order to make it sound better , what kind of gear should I add between iD4 and my Computer? Thank you :)
@@AudioTechTV Thank you very much for this great an valuable information :)
if i plug in one cable with usb C in one end into the interface and the other end of the cable which is USB 3.0 type A into my PC is it also going to make the headphone output weaker?
It shouldn’t. I used an adapter to connect mine to a USB 3 type a and it still had plenty of headphone power for my Beyerdynamic DT 770 250 ohm headphones.
@@AudioTechTV thanks so much :)
So there is no midi input ? We can’t plug an expression pedal ?
I midi input on this one. You can use a USB midi expression pedal if you wanted. If it’s an expression pedal for a midi keyboard most decent midi keyboards will have midi input and outputs on them so you can connect expression pedals or other midi gear.
@@AudioTechTV i have to say , i’m a total noob on that stuff man , i ordered this audio interface ,i will have it in two days , after someone gave me some advices and after watching this video , so i checked the specs again and on the website ,it says « no midi interface « on it , so,i’m confused haha . So basically what i want if possible is to play guitar with an expression pedal to emulate a wah wah pedal or whatever effects , through a guitar plugin ( the neural archetype plugins ) ,so you say it’s possible on this audio interface ? Because as far as i can see , there is only the usb port ( that you plug on your pc ) the input for the guitar , the head phone ,and the lxr input right , so where would you plug the expression pedal ? And if you have an expression pedal not too expensive that you would recommend. Feel free to give me an example :) thanks for your answer :) !
@@AudioTechTV or would i need the expression pedal plugged to this device , plugged to the pc , on a usb port and with the audio interface plugged on a second usb port to make it work , and hoping that the guitar plugin would detect it www.audiofront.net/MIDIExpression.php sorry for the noob questions :)
@@AudioTechTV aaah ok i see now , yeah ok i need to get a midi controller /pedal plugged to the usb midi input .. thanks a lot for your help :)
Great detailed video!
I am using it as well but I have to run my monitors at max volume(JBL 104). Am using TRS cables. Did you face the same issue? I also faced the same issue when switching to Personus Eris 4.5
I got the jbl 104s too, they were super low with my behringer interface but I didn't try it with my audient yet
Great Review! I am looking to record Audiobooks using a Dynamic Mic (SM58 / Rode Procaster) and need an Audio Interface. I have shortlisted the ID4.

Thank you SO VERY MUCH!!!
Which converters are installed here? Are they the same as in ID14?
Yes
No
Scarlett Solo 4Gen or Audient ID4 MkII?
ID4 MKII.
I have an UMC22. Should I upgrade to this one or there aren't noticeable differences?
There are noticeable differences. However It really depends on what you're recording. If you're making rock music with a lot of distortion and effects then you may not notice the difference as much. But if you want to capture a quality vocal or acoustic tracks, you may want to upgrade. This gives you 24 bit recording where the UMC22 is 16 bit. The mic preamps in this are much nicer and so are the converters. You will capture much cleaner audio with this but whether you should upgrade or not is up to you. The UMC22 can still help you to record decent quality tracks at home and you already have it.
@@AudioTechTV I will use the interface to record rap vocals... in this case the upgrade worth it?
@@simonebarbella4118 if you’re just recording a vocal track and aren’t layering a bunch of recorded tracks the difference may not be extremely huge. Are you recording with a quality microphone?
@@AudioTechTV I have a Behringer C1 but i'm going to buy a Lewitt 440 Pure or a Warm Audio 47 jr
@@simonebarbella4118 with the C1 you likely wouldn’t notice a huge difference. But if you do plan on upgrading your mic you might want to upgrade the interface to get some better mic preamps to go with the better mic. You will notice a bigger difference by upgrading the mic first and then the interface next. Or both at the same time if you can do that.
Hi can you review some DJ equipment, DJ mixers ?
Are you getting enough volume on your headphones? I have my audient connected with an usb type c to type a to a usb 3.0 port. With my beyerdynamics 990 pro I have to turn up almost all the volume to get a good level. By the way, good review!
It's a Beyerdynamics problem rather than an Audio Interface problem. By default, the headphone volume output is low
@@CasmurMusic I don't think so. I tested with other headphones from different brands, even with less omhs requirement, and still have the same low output volume
@@CasmurMusic Bro educate yourself before defending anything. 250 ohm headphones require significantly more power to get loud unlike your 19 ohm beats by dre and most cases it requires headphone amp. It's not Beyerdynamics problem by any means, it's Audio Interface problem.
Headphone out is pretty powerful in this thing, Can pretty much power anything upto 600 ohms
hi ,great video and hope you are having a great time right now, I'm plugging my electric guitar directly into the electric guitar input of the audient id4 mkii interface but even when I crank the gain up to max level it still won't clip and at max gain my guitar signal is around -6db. and if I put the gain level at 12 pm the signal will be at -36 which is really low, I haven't changed my strings for months could the low signal be because of that? I don't know if this is normal or not, would be glad if you could guide me please? thank you so much
.
Looks like an interesting microphone
Hey! Can the AUDIENT iD14 mkii be sufficient enough to power the NEUMAN TLM 103 at an optimal level?
I don’t have a TLM 103 but I would think it should have plenty of gain to power it because that’s a condenser mic so it doesn’t need a lot of gain and the Audient audio interfaces have a lot of clean gain. If you mean the actual phantom power then yes. It has 48v phantom power which is what is required for the TLM103.
@@AudioTechTV ahh thanks mate you're a legend!
Hey manh so im getting the id4 mii with the beyerdynamic dt 990s is good enough to power up the headphones?
I don’t have the 990s but I think they are 250 ohms which is the same as my dt770s and this powers them easily. It can go up to 600 ohms.
@@AudioTechTV Thank you so much!!
Can you connect a midi keys here?
You can’t connect a midi keyboard directly to this interface but most midi keyboards are USB so you could connect it to another USB port and use the midi keyboard at the same time as the interface.
Hey man, love your videos! Is it worth it to upgrade from ID4 MKI to ID4 MKII?
If you already have the ID4 MKI and you aren't having issues with it then it probably isn't worth the upgrade. If anything maybe upgrade to the ID14 then at least you're adding some i/o.
@@AudioTechTV Hi sir, appreciate your reply! I have decided to just get the ID14 MKII than settling for the ID4 MKI. Thanks so much!
iD4 or Motu m2 ?? which one u prefer and why
The preamps r the same from the id14?
Yes.
Hello, can the interface be powered by usb 2.0?
No
Do you know if it works with low impedance headphones?
I've used 38 ohm headphones without any issues. Low impedance headphones shouldn't be a problem just make sure you keep the headphone volume low so you don't overload them.
@@AudioTechTV ok thank you
Frequency response is pretty bad below 80 ohms. Because it has higher impedance headphone out
Is there a difference between id4 & id4 mkii or are they the same?
@@AudioTechTV Thanks for your insight, that's reassuring.
@@AudioTechTV is the id4 better as good at the id44?
Or is it better than the Scarlett?
