Apparently they need to learn how to get up on their own. My dog, for example, was an awful jumper (couldn't get up or down on the couch). I used to help him, show him how to do it, but sometimes they need to figure it out on their own to get it.
That's normal, you don't need to help the dog, they have to learn things themselves, thats what animals are for, it may seem sad for the dog but its not, don't treat it so fluffy it has a brain wich is working things out and understanding how to get back on its feet dont worry that's just the way the nature is.

We have a french bull dog, had 4 Rotties previously, loved them. It is easier to pick this dog up when he is sick. Love him. Very different!
