How India’s Looking After Its Maritime Security Domain

- NEW DELHI: For a country like India that has a long coastline (about 11,000 km, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep included), maritime security is as important as guarding the nation’s land borders. The Mumbai terror attacks of 2008, where the terrorists took the sea route to reach India, exposed gaps in coastal security and served as a wake-up call. But the government’s focus hasn’t remained confined to the security aspect; economics too has been factored in. In this episode of ‘Simply Nitin’, StratNews Global Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale takes a closer look at what it takes to manage maritime security while leveraging the domain’s economic potential.

A very uniquely informative episode indeed!
There is a screen in the background that is used to depict some charts and maps from time to time. I'd recommend an increased usage of the same screen; with Nitin moved to a smaller inset alongside. In this episode, I saw frequently saw Nitin reading through his notes; but the screen did not have corresponding data or images; when some slides with bulleted points would have helped listeners focus on a specific aspect being elucidated (case in point, the elucidation about the co-ordination required between various departments).
I, ofcourse understand that creation of a presentation slides stack would involve a lot of work. But it would be excellent use of the presentation infrastructure StratNewsGlobal appears to be fielding in its content creation.
The previous episode of Simply Nitin was even more consequential. On that episode, two questions:
1. Do the two theatre commands (dominated by the Indian Army) signal a forever defensive posture by the Indian Military given their fixed orientation towards China and Pakistan?
2. Will the Maritime Command also adopt a defensive posture or can it transition to an expeditionary force in the near future?
Very informative lecture.. thank you sir
Thanks!
Indian Navy should be enabled to have total dominance over whole of Indian Ocean. The jugular vein of the world economy will and should be under Indian watch and dominance.
Wonderful and detailed information about our maritime challenges and opportunities. Thank you

Rather than putting emphasis on security only. India should try and establish certain islands on either sides as dutyfree zones for travelling vessels with facilities like medical care (india is already a world leader in medical tourism), etc; kind of tourist hubs and then build a security architecture alongside such hubs; it will become easier and more feasible!
Why does your India map not show border with Afg(Wakhan)? Please correct it. There seems to be an offset to the right
