I kept waiting for a ghost train to come rolling through like on Ghostbusters lol. I think those bats were cute little guys, just snoozing. Fantastic video Chris.
It's so weird watching someone in awe of the year 1984 - as if it was _so long ago._ I remember that year like it was yesterday. Well maybe not yesterday. :) Wish I was in there exploring with you guys.
Well done gentleman, another piece of forgotten history from Pennsylvania. You fellas make a great team. Chris the historian & narrator and Jay the the discover. Keep up the great work always look forward to your next adventure. 👍
I was in that area for work for 2 years, I replaced the power line just south of those tunnels. I walked through the tunnels alone on a Saturday. Hopefully you got to see the Nicholson bridge. After the bridge was built these tunnels taken out of service and the right of way sold to the state and became US11.
@@journeywithjay yeah I remember when I was looking and found a few set of coords online. A few were like a mile off! Thankfully you spotted it. In the spring that would be invisible!
Hi Chris, those tunnels were awesome to see, all of the icicles in there are truly beautiful. The mound of ice underneath that ventilation shaft looked like someone had dumped a whole host of diamonds in there, very sparkly and pretty. A stunning adventure, thank you for sharing, much love. xx 🙏💖
We live a couple miles from these tunnels. I wondered how they looked after being out of service for over 100 years. These tunnels were no longer necessary due to the realignment for the Tunkhannock Viaduct. Thanks for a great video.
These exploration vids calm my nerves. I find them very peaceful and beautiful. Yours are some of my favorites. Steve ronin’s videos and very good too.
Wow, that was an amazing explore. I loved the ice, definitely best time to go there, thankfully the ice allowed you to walk in. Thanks for the adventure 😃👍
@3:30 Most definitely was a brake shoe. The bump in the center on the top side is where it connected to the brake rigging on the truck set. They're just held in with a metal pin, so they can be changed easily out on the road. However, they've been known to just fall off from time to time.
You are definitely more brave than me! That cracking ice that you don't know really how deep it is was really creepy! 😳 I love bats. I love the movie Bats! 😁
Have you ever been to Dallas where the '63 Kennedy event took place? While you're down there, maybe the tower at UT Austin where Charles Whitman was. Thanks again for your very well made, informative videos! Love your work man!! Take 'er easy!!
At 3:50 my guess is that it might have been part of a rail, but that's just a guess. In this weather, I would say the bats are all in deep hibernation. I don't think keeping your voice low will be of any effect on their sleep. I saw a date of 1908 on one of the columns you were examining, so apparently they didn't really improve any safety concerns they had, so they closed them only 8 years after that. This was a very interesting exploration, thanks. God Bless and stay safe. Oh, and by the way, you may want to start wearing hard hats while exploring tunnels, caves or mines, you never know when a rock or an icicle will drop on your head.
I miss living in pa, I worked for a company that restored historical buildings. One building I worked on was Ben Franklins house, I got to go where the public couldn’t and see and handle things they couldn’t. I live history
You should come to the upper Peninsula of Michigan, there are mines that you can take tours of and there is a mine called Delaware mine that is a self tour quite interesting.
Funny how you get a kick out of old graffiti but dislike or neglect to film any newer stuff.. I like both! I love history and the fact that man must leave his mark no matter what fashion.
Psst! I'm whispering, too....leave the bats sleep! They didn't use either one of these tunnels very long. I guess when I think about the men who perished to build this project...just not worth it, huh. Very interesting to see the construction and how the tunnel caved in. You were very courageous to go in a set of tunnels that were old and falling in on you and Jay. Thank you !
I'm slowly making my way through your videos; I am a subscriber. I'm enjoying them immensely. I do not know if you have already visited Langtry, Texas; home of Judge Roy Bean. Robert Redford did a movie about the Judge. Great movie. The most ironic thing about it is that I pass by the museum a couple times a week but I cannot ever stop to check it out as I am a truck driver and there is nowhere for me to park. I was hoping that you could visit and video the place. I figured that you are the best candidate because I think you investigate these places well. I am sure these trips have to be planned out and it will take time just to get there, but maybe if you have a 'to do' list, you could add this to it. Thank you for everything.

Looking from the front, it almost looks like an ice cathedral, so pretty. Great job guys.
That was absolutely fascinating to see! The amount of cutting out the tunnels would have been a huge job back in those early days.
I agree. A huge amount of work for sure
Wow those icicles are phenomenal!! Amazing stuff. Stay safe out there my friend.
Thanks for 'taking us along' on your adventures!
Wow! This is less than an hour from where I grew up! Love the ice, so beautiful. I miss Pennsylvania winters...
Cool video! I LOVE the bats! And the fact that you were so considerate of them! Awesome Chris. Keep the videos comin!
As a fellow nightshifter, thanks for being nice to us bats we need our sleep! Always enjoy your adventures! From Elizabeth Illinois.
Always knowledgeable, always low key and venturesome, what a great life to see these places and bring them to others' attention.
I was just watching your goblin video in Utah after telling someone about you on my hike. Now I know what video I am sending!
I always let the ads play so he gets the spiff. He deserves support for these interesting videos.
It's really amazing to see the ties. Creosote dipping has kept them intact.

Yes that bridge is definitely impressive
Man! You're risking your life to bring us great history videos like this! Be safe my friend 🙏 that looks dangerous!
Good to see you guys found it. Your buddy was asking me about it. Loved it when we went through
Yeah it took us a while those were the wrong coordinates I had. We left and gave up and Chris happened to spot them on from the road.

"They were having trouble with cave ins" as he stand midway in the tunnel.. luckily he wasn't there on the wrong day...
That's exactly my thoughts! Read my comment above. ☝🙄👌

Just an amazing place, and seeing the bats made it even more amazing.

What an awesome location. Amazing ice formations.
Do be safe in these places, ice can force rock, cement and brick apart and cause it to fall.

Those icicles were amazing. Mother nature is one hell of a sculptress!

Bats: Ughhh turn the light off dude! 😂🤣😂🤣
LOL. I was laughing when they said they were being quiet, so they wouldn't wake up the bats.
I'm born and raised in Australia, I'll not have opportunity to visit your amazing country, so thanks for taking me along on your adventures.
Another nice example of what you don't see on other channels. Great job Chris!

Very cool place, great details and great winter ambience.

The rebar is what destroys concrete, it rusts and expands and opens up the concrete.
Your videos are never dull. I'd say you are both very brave and a little foolish. Glad you made it out safely.
That does not look like a safe place, appreciate you going in therr and making such a nice video, I love history and you are doing just wonderful!! 😊

It's said that the best undetectable murder weapon is an icicle.
Or a frozen roast. Brain the victim, put roast in oven, then invite the police for a beef dinner!
NO!! I have never done it.
Read it in a murder mystery.
Worked for me.
Kind of crazy but my father must have read that book. Remember him telling me & my brothers that.

Next time you visit an abandoned rail tunnel look for the date nails in the ties. They will help you with finding out how old things are.
My son collects those. When I first saw them all I could think of were religious relics 😂

Leaving a like specifically because you were considerate of the bats
