Billy Durney has the perfect physique du rôle of a pitmaster, and his enthusiasm is so clear. Never been there, but I certainly intend to go some time in the future.
i live in nyc but having just tried franklins bbq yesterday, and not that nyc bbq is garbage, you really cant compare the bbq in texas to anywhere else... theres just something so unique and amazing about these texan bbq that you cant really seem to replicate in nyc or anywhere else. that being said, nyc has a very unique and city tailored feel and taste. point being, both are good but i think the "original" wins.
I have had Franklin's BBQ, and it is worth all its praise and flowers, but Hometown is pretty good. The biggest difference is the brisket, and it isn't by much
I read this a year ago and I thought you were spewing BS because I thought Hometown was already amazing, but I just went to Dallas and ate Goldee's (#1 rated) and Cattleack (#6 rated) and just had Hometown again right now....... there is no comparison to Texas bbq 🫣
I’m offended. You don’t put extra stuff on a good brisket. I’m from Texas and you if you make your BBQ right you don’t even need the bbq sauce. You’re not doing it right if you gotta use a fork and knife to eat the brisket. The Vietnamese bbq I get but don’t compare that to Texas bbq.
I was planning on flying to Texas for authentic BBQ, but then I found this guy who rents half of a gas station from some Sikh guy, and he said it was "textbook Texas BBQ" so I just spent my plane ticket money on more Brisket.
Hometown, Mighty Quinn's, Fette Sau, Arrogant Swine, John Brown Smokehouse, New York has better bbq than anywhere in North Carolina. As a NC native, that hurts my pride a little bit, but as a recent New Yorker, it's so awesome.
The Oak they use isn't the same as the Oak we use here in Texas, which is why he has to add his own flair to it. It will never be better than what you get here.
might be as good as the best texas bbq, but here in texas we can still buy really good bbq for affordable prices i bet you pay a leg and an arm just for a rib
BBQ in NY is crazy expensive and usually sucks. Only good BBQ I had in NY was hill country. That’s why I smoke at home. Every place I ate bbq in Texas was very good.
I don't know if New York will ever top Texas BBQ, but who's to say Texas BBQ is the best? What about the Carolina's or Tennessee or Missouri or Kansas?
im not an expert but this actually looks awesome. i love how he's truly incorporated specific places from the city into his food in a respectful way.
I used to hate this guy, but those 2 new commentators for Eater have made me love this guy.
The guy has his heart into this. How can he go wrong. He has passion. Thumbs up sir.
I am years late, but Hometown is amazing! And the Miami shop is equally as good!
Billy Durney has the perfect physique du rôle of a pitmaster, and his enthusiasm is so clear. Never been there, but I certainly intend to go some time in the future.
yo, I love this dude.
so straight from the heart and passionate about what he loves - MEAT.
more ppl and places like this, Eater
You know who else loves and is passionate about meat? Your sister.
This Is The Best BBQ In NYC No Question! It's AMAZING!!!
"Profound bark". Does that mean platonic ideal tho?
Props to this man. His own style of barbecue. Not Texas though. But I'm sure it tastes delicious.
That brisket looks crazy good!
Much respect to Billy!!!
I have had everything there, and it is all fantastic!
He cut that sausage with a Benchmade 940 Osborne....bad ass!
Around 4:11
wish your videos were longer! love the show.
Now this is enough proof truly you are what you eat 😂
worth every penny and their sauces are amazing.
It looked so good, I wanna try that in Indonesia...next time

Pork Belly.

This is like the third video I have seen on this restaurant, the food looks great. That pastrami pork belly 🤗 I can't wait to take a trip out there.
It's Truly Amazing, You Must Try It
I need to go there
Ya gotta eat it with hipsters in Brooklyn. I'll take mine with the folks out there wherever.

“No good barbecue falls off the bone” hello Scott’s
This guy is something you put on a BBQ
30 min after watching this type of vid... im starving
Thats great, he's put his soul into this and his passion comes out throughout the food
this looks way better than your 400 day sun dried beef you wet your pants over.
Well, he himself once said that he associates all that with luxury and such, so it's not just about flavour, I guess.
I wonder how much more this costs over their southern counterparts......BBQ in some big cities gets ridiculously expensive.
I love that place, I go there and it's super delicious
I always thought scotch bonnets are what we called habernero in the uk
Greg Hurley They're similar, but the Scotch Bonnet has a fruitier flavor.
Scotch bonnet is just one of many different habanero (c.chinence)
chilies.
They Are! Exactly The Same!
Nick is getting better.
Yet people will still treat him with nothing but disdain all because of a questionable past background.
I was planning on flying to Texas for authentic BBQ, but then I found this guy who rents half of a gas station from some Sikh guy, and he said it was "textbook Texas BBQ" so I just spent my plane ticket money on more Brisket.
So many people aspire to open a restaurant but few know the high build out cost
Notification Squad?
Beautiful meat
"I WAS INSPIRED BY MY JOURNEY AROUND THE WORLD" *makes the most American thing ever*

Noticed it right away lol.
those that notice the knife (including me) have some issues

I like how he uses a benchmade knife to cut the sausage
Hometown, Mighty Quinn's, Fette Sau, Arrogant Swine, John Brown Smokehouse, New York has better bbq than anywhere in North Carolina. As a NC native, that hurts my pride a little bit, but as a recent New Yorker, it's so awesome.
Welcome to NYC!
The Kirby T
Yeah, but I mean, NC barbeque is just vinegary trash.
there's a reason he copied Mueller's in Texas.
That's because New York BBQ is central Texas BBQ and central Texas BBQ is the best in the world.
So American to think that just because something is the best in the US, it's the best in the world.
@@hmann4531 generally...u may have a point...but its true about BBQ....ask anyone who has tried to prove that theory wrong
Two words

Good Barbecue should fall off the bone. It's not a fallacy.
Take it easy. Get behind the beast Texas.
All good bbq falls off the bone. Bears bbq for the win
3:45 That's tender brisket...
NY will never add up to Texas BBQ, never
@Eater have you not heard of Michael Rodriguez from Austin TX and now in Jersey city??? A true pitmaster.
I'm going to pretend I didn't read that video title.
might be as good as the best texas bbq, but here in texas we can still buy really good bbq for affordable prices i bet you pay a leg and an arm just for a rib
yea, dallas native here, i love being able to go to a cheap hole-in-the-wall bbq place and get a huge-ass plate of meat for 10 bucks
BBQ in NY is crazy expensive and usually sucks. Only good BBQ I had in NY was hill country. That’s why I smoke at home. Every place I ate bbq in Texas was very good.

First video I watched after the gym. Do you have any idea how i feel eating my oats now?
I stopped just before the 7:00 min mark when I saw someone cutting a slice of brisket with a plastic knife
Texan BBQ is good. But that doesnt mean it is the only good bbq.
