I tried to explain this in the review, but people either don't hear me or don't understand. I don't care what you paid for your copy. It doesn't change the fact that the US retail price is $200, and unless you can show me a US retail price that's not 200, it doesn't matter.
I did watch the video, and I was waiting for you to mention the original price of the DS compared to the aftermarket prices. It's not really fair to compare aftermarket prices of one product to the original price of another, since that will only be useful until the second product becomes only available through the aftermaket as well, and becomes much more expensive. You presented the budget product at its most expensive point and the luxury product at its cheapest.
That's not the after market price, that's the original MSRP at US Retail. Show me otherwise, I even had someone confirm they paid this price when they preordered the original release
Glad I played the long game on these figs; just snagged Recorder for $170 USD (free shipping too) from an overseas store and DS Recording for $60 bucks. Also picked up the FT gold plate chest. Now the tough decision which to keep in bot and which in alt mode.
Definitely one of the most interesting versus yet. Having both in hand now I was surprised that the DS has the more heroic looking sculpt which FT usually nails. But after looking at them multiple times throughout the day on my shelf the paint on the FT made my eyes go to it every time so it’s the one staying in bot mode and the DS will be next to MP-13 in alt mode. I’ll admit had the DS had the same premium paint I would have skipped the FT Blaster. I think your versus was really fair and if people disagree with any category then they can adjust the final score for themselves! Thank you for doing these as they really help a lot.
The DS Blaster is a lot easier to transform with far fewer small fiddly steps that can be overlooked during transformation, AND it still maintains a clean robot and alt-mode with MORE articulation than we get from Fanstoys. I don't know how you measure engineering but IMO engineering is firmly in the DS Blaster's favor. Fanstoys transformation isn't hard, but it is a lot more steps than it needs to be and the robot and alt mode results aren't really any better. For gimmicks you missed that DS Blaster's back opens up so if you do get a cassette stuck it is very easy to pop out. Cassettes get stuck in FT Soundwave and I've seen a few videos with cassettes stuck in FT Blaster as well. It happens with all MP figures that store cassettes (even official toys like MP-13 Soundwave.) DS is the only one so far to make the issue easy to resolve without needing sludgers or screwdrivers. As for price a lot of retailers still have it at $80. Original MSRP was $129. I know you have to pick your retailer of choice but locking to two of the most expensive online retailers is silly. We live in a global marketplace and there is no barrier preventing people from buying from ShowZ or other retailers. In fact for Europeans it is easier to buy from ShowZ than from TFSource. IMO people need to stop using tem as the definitive price reference (Bobby Skullface and other do too).
I don't think so as this figure is fully painted while Blitzwing is a very good looking figure, he has very little paint on him so that's a huge detriment. You could pretty much give paint, build and sculpt to Fans Toys as they'll have those spades.
@saysoun752 With all these cell shaded toon paint jobs I see getting done I'm guessing the same could be done if some collectors are looking for that TT/FT premium like paint job for their figures
I think this might be the first time I really disagree with one of these comparisons. I think the DS is far superior. I'm not sure I really even think the fans toys is more cartoon accurate
Fanstoys is closer to the cartoon model, but the shows didn't follow the cartoon model very closely. On the show the radio mode most often shows the door in the center and not to the side. Also in the cartoon the robot mode is most often shown with a shorter pelvis area.
So the DS version has wider shoulders and chest, a slimmed down waist and beefier legs... Is it just me, or does it look more like an FT figure than the actual FT one does?
I have the FTs on pre order but im not getting rid of my Ds. Its such a great figure and the lack of paint means i can mess with it without worrying im going to chip or scratch the paint
Hi TMR are you planning on getting the Gold chest, and if so will you please do a video on replacing it I'm a little nervous about the pin removal. I'm definitely in on the Gold chest I think it's a better look especially when you display him with RP-01 acoustic-wave
Really good breakdown. I think it was fair and as objective as anyone could get. The devil is in the details, the areas that FT won they won by a hair. For me, definitely not enough of a difference to switch out my DS. Plus personally I can't get over that FT head sculpt and those shoulders........ too derpy to take down the reigning champ Recording Alliance 😊 at least for me.
Fanstoys also has the toy head option, which I think they did a pretty good job on, so if I do get Recorder, I can still have them look different and be happy, even in bot mode.
If you want to commend them for accuracy based on very small details you need to properly evaluate them on how well they succeeded in those details. Things like FT having the lower shoulders but they're too low compared to source, and the offset in the alt mode should only be the deck itself and not the buttons. Points for effort, sure, but is trying and getting it wrong better or worse than not trying in order to maintain aesthetics?
the problem with cartoon accuracy is there are too many variations that a character is rendered in the tv series the cartoon shown in your video was not the Blaster i remember and to me the rendition of deformation space is what i remembered growing up, on top of for the money ($70) everywhere, and what you get for the money (close and in some cases surpasses the FT), you really cannot beat the value for the money.
this was an easy choice for me. I never picked up the DS. I don't like the matt finish. I left their Seekers alone for the same reason. I think that flat finish makes the DS versions look cheap. Thanks for the comparison Sony.
I'm so glad I managed to get a $200 figure, which looks great, for $140 even before the "fire sale". Very happy with the figure. Shocked at the markup that some retailers put on it, but I guess it pays to shop around. Kudos to you for using a consistent method for pricing, and for clearly explaining the rationale you’ve used.
Honestly, the Fanstoys one looks amazing, and Eject is worlds better than that Ramhorn, but none of that warrants a purchase for me. Im more than happy with my DS Blaster, even with paying the initial $120 he went for.

It’s so broken up and notched due to the transformation. Honestly I thought FT would blow it out of the water, but this review actually made me give more credit to DS than I expected. Well done.

No comparisons needed for this video as Deformation Space wins it on the shoulders alone. I'm not a fan of how low the shoulders are on the Fans Toys version so that's a no go for me. I love cartoon accuracies but, I think this really hurts Fans Toys on this Transformers. As always, great comparison video.
Having had both in hand, DS comes across as really cheaply made; lots of sprue marks and scratches. Also, most of the red is not painted, it is sand blasted, which also makes it more susceptible to scuff marks than the painted FT figure. The cassette release mechanism is much better on the FT figure. It goes without saying that the cassettes figure is also much better with FT. I just feel that if you are going to pay anywhere near +100 dollars on a figure, it better be maid well, DS just comes across as cheap in hand. That little bit of ab crunch doesn't do it for me. I thought the Seeker figures from DS were great (especially relative to MP-52) but this one was really disappointing.
Its the alt blaster mode. The buttons shifted to the right off centre looks odd. G1 toy has symmetric center located buttons. I have Ds and it looks better to me but I will grab this when it hits 169$.
Great vid. I have the DS version bro and I don’t think it’s completely painted, just the yellow chest is but it seems to me to be colored plastics throughout. I could be wrong but other reviewers seem to have come to that conclusion also. Might also be the reason why it was so cheaply priced.

Still like my ds. Ft feels more premium but that’s about the only thing going for it imo. Both are good but for me the ds is perfect for what I need on my display
I could never display FT in alt mode with that terrible looking handle. But who are we kidding, nobody displays in alt mode unless they buy two copies anyway. Too bad you can't even get the DS now.
good comparison, but is DS really matte painted? It looks like plastic to me man, not like matte paint at all -- straight from the production floor... I mean, reflected in the cost right?
TE/ DS already out of business? I've bought all their figures to support them. Seekers are good. All their figures are pretty good. Not top notch, but the others are all more expensive.
And I bought mine from. Show Z last year for $69 when he and the DS seekers went on sale. The FT Blaster doesn't offer anything significant for me to justify spending $200 when I'm perfectly satisfied with my DS Blaster. 😮
I might be biased, but I just don't like the new TFE/DS figures look. They usually nail the sculpting, but the unpainted surfaces and matte paint just looks so bland. This blaster could have been a God tier figure if they had done a better chose of paint.
@@TMReviews Really, I'm not saying this to be controversial, but in Europe the highest price that has been seen for the figure is $130 and then they lowered it to $80.

Not top notch, but the others are all more expensive.
They seem to be reissuing stuff for super cheap. But no new figures have come out for a while
@@TMReviews Yeah, i see all the rereleases going for 60 usd.
I'll stick to the ft 55, I like my figure having more die cast
FT>>>>>
I think FT loses this time to me personally. Which is not normal cuz usually I go for FT
i bought my DS for 160 when it came out
And I bought mine from. Show Z last year for $69 when he and the DS seekers went on sale. The FT Blaster doesn't offer anything significant for me to justify spending $200 when I'm perfectly satisfied with my DS Blaster. 😮
I sold my Ft the day I opened it. 1st time for a Ft. Proportions looked off. No head articulation instant no. Rebought the DS.
I might be biased, but I just don't like the new TFE/DS figures look. They usually nail the sculpting, but the unpainted surfaces and matte paint just looks so bland. This blaster could have been a God tier figure if they had done a better chose of paint.
The price point is for DS....you've chosen the only store that has sold It for 199$...

@@TMReviews Really, I'm not saying this to be controversial, but in Europe the highest price that has been seen for the figure is $130 and then they lowered it to $80.
without a doubt for that price it is clear that the quality of fanstoys is a winner but the figure I think they have inflated the price a lot.
I have never bought a FansToys figure. I see their appeal, but most of them are overpriced.
I used to think the same until I bought one back in late 2019. I still can't say I completely agree on their pricing, but I now own 17 of their figures and have a few more incoming lolz.
People should stop associating light weight with being cheap
Agreed
Yes, DS is a light weight figure but great quality and very possible. I would almost prefer for FT to go that route but still maintain the paint.
I have both and fanstoys isn't better than DFS Blaster at all!!!!
I got him for 100 lol😊
FT Blaster looks horrible, in my opinion. Not proportional at all.
You are way better then bobby skull😅
Yeah, Bobby definitely needs to upgrade that camera, looks like video from a flip phone.
