Ignores Dark Angels' fanboys and Imperial Fists' fanboys (mostly Black Templars). Their justifications are mainly based on an ego or on sentences taken out of context. No need to be a fan of the Ultramarines to see the power of Ultramar and the many powerfuls heroes of the Chapter like Tigurius, Sicarius etc... Plus, their versatility and stable genes make them a safe bet. Same for the Blood Angels, wardens of the Imperium Nihilus, along with the great Nihilus Fleet, the Sanguinor, Regent Dante and Mephiston. It is known that the genes of the Blood Angels make them extremely gifted at the psychic level and give them a longevity superior to others. Not to mention the Red Thirst and Black Rage that make them warriors with much greater strength than a normal astartes. Great vid !

From what i can gather, the fallen will still be hunted in some capacity. Some are irredeemable, and must be purged. Otherwise Asmodai would have no purpose or place in the story, as he is very one-dimensional.

Zabriel being the hope option, bringing news of the Lion's offer of redemption, while Asmodai being the punishment for refusal.
Agreed, they have, in my opinion, the greatest primarch the only one who goes head to head with the Emperor and is upto the task and chooses to show honor. He is also probably alive somewhere cause he's immortal. The are the most likely to be multiple generational also cause they spend time amongst their families but are equally the last to leave a battle choosing civilian safety as paramount. Also they have by far the most intense rituals.

@@CousinJesse1 best chapter master (second to Guilliman no one has more authority than Dante), best librarian( he can literally solo every other space marine) , one of the only chapters to have librarian dreadnoughts, the Death company is a thing, Khorne favors them hard, they're numbers exceed every chapter besides the Ultramarines, they're the most noble chapter & unlike the Dark Angels don't abandon their allies to chase The Fallen, they have some of the best stories, not to mention Horus has literally afraid to fight the Blood Angels
You forgot the Minotaurs, to me they are deadlier than the Salamenders or Iron Hands. Always packed as full chapter, killing unknown of complete chapter on orders of the Adeptus Terra itself. Really badass^^ Nice video !
Goulliman has the advantage of literally being the commander in chief of the entire Imperium right behind the Emperor himself, so technically the ultramarines have direct control over all military forces in the Imperium including countless trillions human troops and countless thousands of warfleets I agree that pound for pound the DA could rival the UM in number and power but its an entirely different story when it comes to political influence
@@kaspersaldell In raw military might yeah, because they are effectivelly still an unified legion (since they command their successor chapters as if they are individual detachments rather than entirely different chapters) But the dark angels are extremely politically isolated from the Imperium. Not as much as, say, the space sharks but not that far off.
Dark angels are easily number 2 and have even been mentioned as the only chapter that could defeat roboute and the ultra marines if a civil war were to break out
Doubt it, the Ultramarines have the advantage of not just being more numerous but controlling the Imperial Guard as well as the entire galaxy. The blood Angels control the nihilus part. Like I said, taking everything into account including military, resources and political power.

The Lion, who is now older and a bit slower due to his age (but also wiser), has come back to a fractured legion. Even if he does reassemble the legion there is no way you can match the size and the logistical backup that the UM have. I'm at risk of sounding like a UM fanboy, but I just can't help but feel that unfortunately the UM have been getting the best of things.
People have to be pulling random numbers out of their heads for chapter strength. I saw one guy say 10 thousand and another guy closer to 100,000. There’s only about 1 million space marines in the universe at any given time and for 1 chapter to have 1/10 of the space marines is kinda ludicrous. It seems nobody know exactly how many space marines are in any of the chapters. Supposed to be around 1000 chapter with 1000 marines in each chapter equaling 1 million marines.
@@chiefwillyj8566 incorrect on the million number it is an estimation as there is said to be 1000 chapters with 1000 marines which is incorrect though Chapters are allowed to exceed the 1000k during a crusade (which the Black Templars abuse massively) and many chapters are under strength or no wiped out. So in theory yes but actually no on the 1 million Black Templars sue to their outposts on every conquered planet dispersed crusading fleets etc are hard to estimate. The higher estimates say something like 1000 companies (a company being 100 marines) which results in 100k marines. In reality nobody knows the correct amount of black Templars but they are definetly close to legion size if not legion sized. They can’t act as a single legion though as most marines are always crusading somewhere. This would put them below the dark angels and ultramarines which while not being as numerous in their single chapter can easily call upon their successor chapters creating effectively legion strength but usable and they have their primarchs and the ultramarines even a whole realm
Your comment of the Deathwatch, they are not a chapter. They are drawn from each of the chapters who have special agreement to the Death Watch who are attached to the Ordeo Xeno.

Baring in mind they've been on a crusade for 10000 years and each planet taken should have at least a garrison of marines on it they could very easily reach lower number legion status such as the world eaters.
Black Templars do not actually hate psykers and hold astropaths and navigators in high regard, and the Templars did have librarians until they all died in the howling.
Gotta give a shout out to the Vorpal Swords. Not a whole lot of lore on them, but when they were sent into the Eye of Terror on the Abyssal Crusade with 29 other legions suspected of chaos taint, the Swords were one of the few legions to survive their 800-YEAR crusade in the Eye, and even purged over 400 worlds in the process. Their chapter master Konvak Lann was basically single-handedly responsible for Saint Basillius to be shown a traitor and have he and all his writings shot into a star.
I’m sorry but you are wrong this this list. Dark Angel are the Strong Chapter bar none. They have access to weapons no other chapter has access too. They always deploy in legend size strength because most of the unforgiven deploy together. They also have the Lion. Who is the best fighter out of all of the primarchs and is someone who they all fear.
I almost totally agree with your top 10 ! But I would put the white scars in front of the salamenders or the deathwatch. The white scars have the best ratio victory/defeat of all the chapters, the most glorious one, they are really powerfull.
Tbh I thought Salamanders would've been higher. Inspite of their low numbers I would like to see how they would rate as individual warriors rather than being rated on their collective strength. Or how you would rate them when their chapter is at full strength.
Ranking them each as if just fresh out the oven is pretty hard cause one would be tougher than the other in many different aspects. It's like Rock paper scissors, none would be on top

Out of the ones in this video, standard squad vs standard squad, I think it would go: Grey Knights Wolves Blood Angels'Templars/Dark Angels Salamanders/Iron Hands Fists/Ultras Obviously changes depending on situation, like Fists would win if defending etc, or special fighters, like the Blood Angels would win if they had Mephiston etc.
Swap dark angles and blood angles. Dark Angels successors are actually fairly subservient to the original chapter creating a defacto legion so there is an argument for DAs being #1.
The dark angels ranks were bolstered when the lion forgave the fallen and brought them back into the chapter. Their numbers are back to or above the heresy when they were at their strongest. I would have placed them 2nd to the Ultramarines.
The issue with the Deathwatch is no-one knows their numbers. Their are stations all over the Imperium that house them, there could be hundreds, or even many thousands, we simply don't know.
I think Imperial Fists should be the weakest first founding because they may be the masters of fortification but they loose in a lot of important wars and have to rely on other factions of the imperium mostly the Ultramarines to prevent them from facing extinction, and much of their successor chapters are already extinct.

Most of the chapters on here have been weakened and fighting out of desperation or just getting smacked but the ultra chapter who has over 500 plants in control is easily the strongest due to numbers and battles fought and wins I’m a raven guard fan but ultra gets the most shine of any chapter
I think i would put the dark angels above the blood angels. I agree the ultramarines just have too many successor chapters and tons of recources but i think dark angels would beat the blood angels because of their insane hidden tech, primarch, high number of space marines and their overall flexibility. (i'm not a fanboy of either of them i play chaos)

Take away the advantage of ancient guns now what do you see. Yes no difference to an ultramarine no fire resistance or warewolf strength and senses or vampire rage or extra cyborg parts or invisible raven stuff or grey knight psy power. Black templars do zelot knight better and white scars and raven guard should get the speed rules ultramarines do the tactical vanilla bit. 1st legion are allot less "beastly" than most loyal marines.

Any of those marines with a bolter is just a Marine with a bolter but a basic salamander with a bolter has everything the others do Plus Fire resistance and thermal vision. 1+0=1 1+1=2. 1 grey knights in lore they are in between SM and Custodies 2 Ultras including successors 3 imperial including successors 4 SW largest single chapter limited Successions 5 blood angles including successors
That’s the real tipping point as the following are usually chapter complaint with limited succession. 6 dark angles including the forgiven I truely believe that with the return of the lion that the DA will reclaim their title of first. Famed for adaptation, skill, and power. 7 iron hands understated is the lore on the home system of the iron hands. Masters of production. Less than a thousand active marines with less successors. The iron hands are the only chapter capable of supplying a legions worth of arms and equipment. Not even Ultramar can boast that. 8 raven gaurd many hive world in systems guarded by them with a respectable number of succors. 9 white scars have only a few succors. Coupled with one of the most intense induction processes leads to a low ability to replace losses. Although more elite than most other marine chapters, less than 1k of these guys is not good. 10 salamanders. Very limited chapter in terms of support. Less than 1k active marines. hyper elite gear. One plant recruitment. Each salamander lost is an irreplaceable relic of humanity slain. You simply cannot sustain a chapter of heros in full mobilization. The heros are the first to die.
Grey knights have always maintained over 1k knights at Titan. They have been routinely spotted all around the galaxy @ company strength (100marines). That’s not possible with out several chapters. I say the GK are @ legion strength so there’s probably well over 10k of them. They where never canabalized due to the codex. Especially with prim support I bet the GK got some extra love from mars with recruitment. GK could number 15-20k that’s a lot of Aegis stacked up.
I'm not sure I'd even put the Iron Hands on this list. I'd probably move Death Watch out as well. I'd have the Grey Knights lower because they're not huge and they specialize in Daemons. I'd move the Black Templars up. There's a ton of non 1st Founding chapters that would probably be in the top 10 like Crimson Fists and Minotaurs. Your top 3 are great but with the return of the Lion I'd say the Dark Angels might swap spots with the Blood Angels. It's hard to pick between them as the Dark Angels have the Rock, a crazy armory, and their Primarch. The Blood Angels have Dante who's probably one of the most powerful non Primarchs and is now leader of half of the Imperium, one of the most powerful Psykers, and the Death Company. We have to agree with the Ultramarines because they have their Primarch who is the leader of the Imperium, one of the most powerful Psykers, one of the top marines in Calgar, controls who gets Primaris, and more.
I mean, the 2 tallest were Vulkan in 1st place, and Ferrus in 2nd. The shortest ones are Guilliman, Fulgrim, Lorgar and Alpharius/Omegon. I don’t really know about the others. Before Angron became a daemon I’m pretty sure he was about as tall as Guilliman, and it wouldn’t be entirely unreasonable to assume that all the havoc the Butcher’s Nails wrought on his skull could have stunted his growth a bit.

There’s absolutely no way the Minotaurs don’t make this list. Clapping other chapters is kinda their whole shtick. Even had beef with the Custodes for a bit, and according to a high ranking Custodes member, their leader is the second strongest fighter in all of the imperium atm(before Lion came back ofc) and that even included the Custodes themselves.
This video is far too founding chapter centric. The Minotaurs are the no.1 ranked because they have the strength and ferocity of the Space Wolves, their Chapter Master is rumoured to be an ex-Custodian, and more than any other reason they are the de facto clandestine militant arm of the High Lords giving them institutional power above any other Chapter, including the Ultramarines. Then there's the Exorcists whose initiation is get yourself possessed and if you can drive the daemon out by force of will you graduate. Neither are my favourite chapter but both are more worthy than some of the first founding chapters on this list.

We all know that technically the Black Templars should be #1 on this list as well as every other list. Aside from numbers, their martial prowess alone puts them far above every chapter and their extreme devotion to duty is embedded in the creed. Not a single other chapter could beet them
As somebody who doesn't really like Black Templars lore or game wise I would have to agree, as of right now they are the most powerful chapter by far by numbers alone, and they have the accolades to back it up

Not only are GK easily killing a BT 1v1, if they use their psychich abilities the BT couldn't even come close enough to hit a single strike with his sword. You need to brush up on your lore.
Nutburg. Dark Angels should be first as there the vaults that have all sorts of wacky tech. Volkite, Tanks that no other legion has. Men of Iron (yes they have forbidden tech). And god knows what else as they had all the stuff that other legions could not. Why we see Jet bike, Full terminator first company, Plasma talons, there Nephlim and other tech. Never mind the rock and and the huge fleet. Plus the fact we getting the Risen joining the ranks as well as lion. Even Dante bowed to the lion. The blood angels second as they with the dark angels now and they have the lion to command them in the north.

Do you think war is all about aggressiveness and weapons. War revolve solely around supply chain, tactical prowess and always going after the bigger picture. True the Dark angels would be more effective in battles but when it comes to war smurfs are unmatched.

I wonder why The Lion is still fabled as the primarch with the most tactical prowess in battle when he couldn't put out an insurrection within his own chapter, even after contributing very little to the imperium of man during the heresy (infact the only significant thing he did during the heresy was heresy itself-the imperium secondus). Gulliman is the best state man primarch, he might not be much of a fighter but then he Is a conqueror. The only primarch I think would stop Gulliman is Jagathai Khan and even that is could go either way.

I did not think it was not a question Its been stated in books they space wolves did not make chapters and stayed 5000 strong and so have been the strongest space marine chapter from end of 30k to current setting. Having Lots of second founding does not make your chapter stronger that was guillimans whole point in making them split as they grow to not get too much power.
The Dark Angels are also Legion strength with similar numbers in successors to the Ultramarines, except for the fact that their successors are under the command of the Dark Angels essentially making them a chapter.

Almost every legion has a call back the sub chapters protocol. So DA are no more a legion than any other codex chapter. Number 1 should be The imperial fist since we Son's of Dorn are the Emperor's Greatest champion and our successor chapters are both love and respected throughout all of the Imperium.

Iron Hands and Salamanders have no place in this list, they have nothing going for them after the Horus Heresy, and are relatively small chapters. Should be replaced imo with some of the "special" chapters, like the Minotaurs and Space Sharks, which have a crazy track record in astartes vs astartes combat during the badab war.

@@CousinJesse1 best chapter master (second to Guilliman no one has more authority than Dante), best librarian( he can literally solo every other space marine) , one of the only chapters to have librarian dreadnoughts, the Death company is a thing, Khorne favors them hard, they're numbers exceed every chapter besides the Ultramarines, they're the most noble chapter & unlike the Dark Angels don't abandon their allies to chase The Fallen, they have some of the best stories, not to mention Horus has literally afraid to fight the Blood Angels
You forgot the Minotaurs, to me they are deadlier than the Salamenders or Iron Hands. Always packed as full chapter, killing unknown of complete chapter on orders of the Adeptus Terra itself. Really badass^^

The Lion, who is now older and a bit slower due to his age (but also wiser), has come back to a fractured legion. Even if he does reassemble the legion there is no way you can match the size and the logistical backup that the UM have. I'm at risk of sounding like a UM fanboy, but I just can't help but feel that unfortunately the UM have been getting the best of things.

People have to be pulling random numbers out of their heads for chapter strength. I saw one guy say 10 thousand and another guy closer to 100,000. There’s only about 1 million space marines in the universe at any given time and for 1 chapter to have 1/10 of the space marines is kinda ludicrous. It seems nobody know exactly how many space marines are in any of the chapters. Supposed to be around 1000 chapter with 1000 marines in each chapter equaling 1 million marines.

Chapters are allowed to exceed the 1000k during a crusade (which the Black Templars abuse massively) and many chapters are under strength or no wiped out.

Black Templars sue to their outposts on every conquered planet dispersed crusading fleets etc are hard to estimate.
The higher estimates say something like 1000 companies (a company being 100 marines) which results in 100k marines.
In reality nobody knows the correct amount of black Templars but they are definetly close to legion size if not legion sized. They can’t act as a single legion though as most marines are always crusading somewhere.
This would put them below the dark angels and ultramarines which while not being as numerous in their single chapter can easily call upon their successor chapters creating effectively legion strength but usable and they have their primarchs and the ultramarines even a whole realm

10k marines isn't Legion size. It's actually from 50,000 to 250,000

Gotta give a shout out to the Vorpal Swords. Not a whole lot of lore on them, but when they were sent into the Eye of Terror on the Abyssal Crusade with 29 other legions suspected of chaos taint, the Swords were one of the few legions to survive their 800-YEAR crusade in the Eye, and even purged over 400 worlds in the process. Their chapter master Konvak Lann was basically single-handedly responsible for Saint Basillius to be shown a traitor and have he and all his writings shot into a star.

They always deploy in legend size strength because most of the unforgiven deploy together. They also have the Lion. Obviously changes depending on situation, like Fists would win if defending etc, or special fighters, like the Blood Angels would win if they had Mephiston etc.
Swap dark angles and blood angles. Dark Angels successors are actually fairly subservient to the original chapter creating a defacto legion so there is an argument for DAs being #1.

The dark angels ranks were bolstered when the lion forgave the fallen and brought them back into the chapter. Their numbers are back to or above the heresy when they were at their strongest. I would have placed them 2nd to the Ultramarines.

The issue with the Deathwatch is no-one knows their numbers. Their are stations all over the Imperium that house them, there could be hundreds, or even many thousands, we simply don't know.
I think Imperial Fists should be the weakest first founding because they may be the masters of fortification but they loose in a lot of important wars and have to rely on other factions of the imperium mostly the Ultramarines to prevent them from facing extinction, and much of their successor chapters are already extinct.

Most of the chapters on here have been weakened and fighting out of desperation or just getting smacked but the ultra chapter who has over 500 plants in control is easily the strongest due to numbers and battles fought and wins I’m a raven guard fan but ultra gets the most shine of any chapter
I think i would put the dark angels above the blood angels. I agree the ultramarines just have too many successor chapters and tons of recources but i think dark angels would beat the blood angels because of their insane hidden tech, primarch, high number of space marines and their overall flexibility. (i'm not a fanboy of either of them i play chaos)

That’s the real tipping point as the following are usually chapter complaint with limited succession.
6 dark angles including the forgiven I truely believe that with the return of the lion that the DA will reclaim their title of first. Famed for adaptation, skill, and power.
7 iron hands understated is the lore on the home system of the iron hands. Masters of production. Less than a thousand active marines with less successors. The iron hands are the only chapter capable of supplying a legions worth of arms and equipment. Not even Ultramar can boast that.
8 raven gaurd many hive world in systems guarded by them with a respectable number of succors.
9 white scars have only a few succors. Coupled with one of the most intense induction processes leads to a low ability to replace losses. Although more elite than most other marine chapters, less than 1k of these guys is not good.
10 salamanders. Very limited chapter in terms of support. Less than 1k active marines. hyper elite gear. One plant recruitment. Each salamander lost is an irreplaceable relic of humanity slain. You simply cannot sustain a chapter of heros in full mobilization. The heros are the first to die.
Grey knights have always maintained over 1k knights at Titan. They have been routinely spotted all around the galaxy @ company strength (100marines). That’s not possible with out several chapters. I say the GK are @ legion strength so there’s probably well over 10k of them. They where never canabalized due to the codex.
Especially with prim support I bet the GK got some extra love from mars with recruitment. GK could number 15-20k that’s a lot of Aegis stacked up.

I'm not sure I'd even put the Iron Hands on this list. I'd probably move Death Watch out as well. I'd have the Grey Knights lower because they're not huge and they specialize in Daemons. I'd move the Black Templars up. There's a ton of non 1st Founding chapters that would probably be in the top 10 like Crimson Fists and Minotaurs.
Your top 3 are great but with the return of the Lion I'd say the Dark Angels might swap spots with the Blood Angels. It's hard to pick between them as the Dark Angels have the Rock, a crazy armory, and their Primarch. The Blood Angels have Dante who's probably one of the most powerful non Primarchs and is now leader of half of the Imperium, one of the most powerful Psykers, and the Death Company. We have to agree with the Ultramarines because they have their Primarch who is the leader of the Imperium, one of the most powerful Psykers, one of the top marines in Calgar, controls who gets Primaris, and more.

I mean, the 2 tallest were Vulkan in 1st place, and Ferrus in 2nd. The shortest ones are Guilliman, Fulgrim, Lorgar and Alpharius/Omegon. I don’t really know about the others. Before Angron became a daemon I’m pretty sure he was about as tall as Guilliman, and it wouldn’t be entirely unreasonable to assume that all the havoc the Butcher’s Nails wrought on his skull could have stunted his growth a bit.

There’s absolutely no way the Minotaurs don’t make this list. Clapping other chapters is kinda their whole shtick. Even had beef with the Custodes for a bit, and according to a high ranking Custodes member, their leader is the second strongest fighter in all of the imperium atm(before Lion came back ofc) and that even included the Custodes themselves.

The Minotaurs are the no.1 ranked because they have the strength and ferocity of the Space Wolves, their Chapter Master is rumoured to be an ex-Custodian, and more than any other reason they are the de facto clandestine militant arm of the High Lords giving them institutional power above any other Chapter, including the Ultramarines. Then there's the Exorcists whose initiation is get yourself possessed and if you can drive the daemon out by force of will you graduate. Neither are my favourite chapter but both are more worthy than some of the first founding chapters on this list.

I wonder why The Lion is still fabled as the primarch with the most tactical prowess in battle when he couldn't put out an insurrection within his own chapter, even after contributing very little to the imperium of man during the heresy (infact the only significant thing he did during the heresy was heresy itself-the imperium secondus). Gulliman is the best state man primarch, he might not be much of a fighter but then he Is a conqueror. I did not think it was not a question Its been stated in books they space wolves did not make chapters and stayed 5000 strong and so have been the strongest space marine chapter from end of 30k to current setting. Having Lots of second founding does not make your chapter stronger that was guillimans whole point in making them split as they grow to not get too much power.
The Dark Angels are also Legion strength with similar numbers in successors to the Ultramarines, except for the fact that their successors are under the command of the Dark Angels essentially making them a chapter.

I love how at every top legion video no one puts dark angels at 1st spot. Dark angels are the one and only true exterminators of the Emperor. What weapons dreadwing has is something that you don't want to see. Who fought against Rangdan, who destroyed the krave ? who knew about the warp from the start ? Who had excelsior ?
