When the time comes, I think this might have to replace my Cap X. For now, it's unnecessary, but I know the St. Rock sounds better! Very informative video, Dan!
Thats a nice one... I bought the 30W Tone King Iron Man Mini and I loved it so much that i sold it and bought the 100W version... I love using an attenuator just strictly to cook the tubes and find that sweet spot (even if im not needing to keep the volume down)
This looks great! Would love a video on the attenuator if possible as you didnt really touch on it. I am using an OX and I really dont like its attenuator. This could be a good replacement!
How would you say the actual reactive load on this compares to the suhr? I’ve been looking to upgrade from the captor x for some time now, just haven’t been able to find the right one. Really love the feature set of this loadbox. I can’t seem to find 1 that has both a superior reactive load but still has the great software and features of the captor x. All the others that share similar features shrink your IRs down to like 30ms. I know you can use IR loader in your daw but it is nice to be able to do it all before you hit the daw like you can in the torpedo remote.
I’m planning to do a comparison as soon as I can. I have another load box on the way so I’ll be able to compare these with 3 others including two notes. I have a bunch of videos to do first but I will get to it. On first impression the quality is there. It’s bigger and heavier than the Captor X. On its own that fact doesn’t say much but it has substantial components in there like the Suhr.
Try the Tone King Ironman II. Ain’t cheap and doesn’t do IRs but it is crazy solid. Haven’t gotten my hands on the unit reviewed here but it seems pretty feature rich
I live on the moon, the greys don’t hear like humans but my Mrs does yell out ( can you turn that down) every once and a while. The walls on these caves are thick so generally closing the airlock doors is enough. This is a cool option for earth bound peoples.
That's what I have, seems so. I looked for that on their site too. The attenuator supports 4, 8 and 16 ohm cabinets but seems 8 ohms is it for the amp....
Connecting an amp that only has a 4 ohm output should be fine, the amp will just produce less power, hum less, and sound slightly cleaner. Connecting an amp set to 16 ohms to the 8 ohm load will make the amp produce more heat, however provided you don’t run it at 100% volume for extended periods, and your amp has a sufficiently meaty output transformer, it should be ok, have a tech fit flyback diodes to your power tube sockets if you’re worried.
Load boxes are too expensive for ones that work. Amps that have attenuators are a better buy. I use axe fx iii sold big amps. Moved to katana artist gen3 paired with katana 1. both attenuated. Moving air is great but most venues dont want and a big amp only works at home if you have at least a 10m room😊😊
Budgets are different for everyone so we can’t debate cost. But in cases like mine where I have multiple tube amps it makes more sense to have a high quality standalone load box so I can use it with different amps. I;have a couple of amps with built in load boxes and I don’t use the internal loads. The external ones I have are better quality.
Once you have used a (really) good load box, you hardly ever will use even the best power attenuator again in my opinion. Good load boxes are expensive, but once you have it, worth the price, but I would not buy below average priced ones, as you might hear the differences. This one theoretically looks nice, but I dislike the external software control (only another dispensable cable...) but also eg. the fact, that the outputs are only xlr's and not also regular jack sockets. Built-in dsp and effects make no sense to me in a load box, sorry! All that counts for me, is an authenic - only passively created - level reduced amp sound, in the best case some IR slots and some IR fine tuning options. Another disadvantage for me is the 8 ohm input only. So I think, I am happier with my own one - with less features but top-notch dsp and fx-free results - also in the future.
I don’t disagree with your points as I also prefer a clean, analogue signal path for my amps. But according to the schematic the DI out is a clean out from the load. So much like my Suhr RL it’s a no frills option. On top of that you have the stereo outs which are post DSP. It’s also quite surprisingly affordable. But the built in DSP is not for everyone. I even mentioned that about myself in the video. But the load is great and so is the attenuator which I barely touched on.
@@LonelyRocker This unit certainly can be a useful tool, if you do not already have a load box and also like the extended features. The price can be an argument, for all the features it is comparably cheap, but for me the one, I already have, has some advantages, like 2/4, 8, 16 ohm inputs and some other things, which I miss here. But it also was twice as expensive.

That's a solid load man! Great video!
It certainly carries the LOAD ;)))))))))

Thanks!!! It's a solid box and surprisingly affordable...
This is definitely the best one out there! Excellent Engineering!
No doubt it’s a really good one!
Fryette is the best! Hands down
Doesn't even handle 4 or 16 ohm

It’s really great. I barely touched the attenuator feature but this is such an all round useful box.

Yeah it's really great....I'll see if I can work that in somewhere...even in a short...

I’ve heard good things about it.

Great analogy!! But do your Cave walls have DSP other than long reverbs? ;)
From what I can tell via St. Rock's site, there's only an 8ohm option. Is this correct?

Great video but I'm married to woman who loves when I'm playing loud! Lycky me😊
Hold onto her!!!!! :)))))
Can't you put a pedal or eq in the loop or in front and just turn it down ? Thats a trick i used to use
Sure...but you would still need to be plugged into the speaker...and I wouldn't record that way....
