I know that nobody can sing this better than Jon Secada, but this cover is absolutely beautiful. She didn't try to belt it out like, Jon. It was very dreamy and atmospheric. I hope Jon has heard this cover. I think he would really appreciate how beautifully "Harriet" has interpreted his song.
I love the original, but this cover is growing on me.

This needs hundreds of thousands of more views. Haunting, epic in scope even, takes the lyrics of one of the truly great songs from the 90s (that still sounds just as fresh as it did back then) and presents them in a truly tragic manner. Having just been left by my fiance of 7 years - and being forced to still live with her, because why not keep ripping the band aid off daily, right? - each line resonates. Lauren Aquilina (I think that's her name) does a similar twist with NO MORE I LOVE YOU'S. Both The Lover Speaks and Annie Lennox's versions have a pulsating beat, whereas Aquilina does a similar arrangement to this masterpiece, and it is just as heartbreaking.

Totally agree its a really good cover just needs a little more rawnness in my opinion,
I agree and yet I disagree, they are two different songs from 2 different points of view that in the end are actually the same. Like a man's point of view and then the woman's. I would like to hear these two get together and do it as a duet, with a verse going to her way and the chorus and bridge etc goin to his steady beat and his sound, I think it would be a hit , just my opinion. Which, well my grandson, says I was at the first concert holding up a torch made of a bone with old rags wrapped around it, lol so what do I know.
Two different renditions. OG is the best version. This ones great in its own right. Toned down and mellowed.
Jon’s version can’t be beaten. I think she was trying to do the song in a new way that suits the heartbreak in the lyrics - for me she succeeded

Hauntingly beautiful. Well done. I'm a big fan of Jon Secada and I was reluctant to listen to this. I am glad that I did. I can't help but think this version would have worked well in a few places in the Dexter TV series.

I believe some of the coments regarding "killing the energy" of the song are exaggerated but true. Probably 2 steps higher up would bring the feel up as well.

I can't tell if your comment is meant to convey dislike of thus version. Honestly, no sarcasm, I'm genuinely interested. Isn't that up to the interpretation of the listener? Any time an artist takes a song and turns it on its ear, like this version, I think it depends on the individual listening, and the sum total of their experiences in life - specifically heartbreak, and a hesrtbreak that is out of their control, as the lyrics come from the standpoint of the person who was dumped. The original is easily one of my favorite songs of all time, and it brings back very special memories. But I think the mark of a truly great song is that it has the kind of malleability for different interpretations. The original song is definitely one that is that good, and frankly, I wish MORE people covered it, then people would discover the original, which is timeless.

There have been cover versions of songs that are better then the original. For Example: The First Time ever I saw your face Peggy Seeger 1957, Roberta Flack 1972. Roberta blows the original away!

I can't stand the original of this song. He just oversings the lyrics. This version is so much better .... as if soaring through the clouds. Beautiful voice. Your original song called 'Fly' is also excellent. Keep up the good work. Hopefully Steve can help you get noticed around the world. Keep pushing him. Your original songs need a little more melody. Something is missing with them at the moment. You should study the melodies of ABBA and Sia to hone your craft. I see lots of comments about Karen Carpenter..... ignore them. You need to be you and work on using various greek modes to make the ear perk up with your original songs.
It might be an idea to get some classical vocal lessons or do some covers of songs like the ones from the film Evita. Madonna went and got vocal lessons to get the part in the film and she followed that with Ray of Light (the biggest album of her career). Her melody lines totally changed after her classical training. Steve should know who to give you this training. Original songs are to key to success whether with a label or not. Will keep an eye on your career. You definitely have what it takes. If you really want this there should be no boyfriends getting in your way.
Get inspiration from other artists and their journies. Watch the film Part of Me by Katy Perry. Watch how determined that girl was. Anyone who makes it, makes severe sacrifices. You must want it more than anything else in the world. It's meant to be hard.
Funny, I loved the original growing up...but even then, his singing never really matched the lyrics....neither did the music video.
