This excellent comedy was first shown 55 years ago, the characters are all so good showing all the personalities we would expect in an old timers army and all played to perfection. A comedy classic ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Definite proof of a perfect comedy is that with just some knowledge about the characters and the audio soundtrack it makes you feel good. These characters (and, of course, their actors) will never be forgotten for as long as their stories are told. I have given my kids, extended family and friends a love for Dad's Army (in the form of the latest DVD Box) so that the next generation is also assured of a good laugh and some of the antics of the boys in the Home Guard. Being a Belgian, I was rather late to the series (1980) but I can honestly claim that I have seen every episode at least twice and most episodes much, much more often. As an avid wargamer, I often play with the Home Guard and for my 63th birthday, a friend gave me a 3d printed version of Corporal Jones Ford BB van. I (of course) already possessed the Lledo vehicle but this was not to scale and a bit to large. Now, however, my platoon can stop Jerry with the right sized vehicle. Best present ever...
The great thing about audio is that it makes you use your imagination and as a result you can visualise the episode and every little nuance especially between Arthur and John which is often so subtle and brilliant. its most relaxing and the 30 minutes fly by.
@@topcat5233 I agree wholeheartedly. On all fronts. Auntie Beeb has just started the series anew, and despite owning all episodes on DVD, I will be watching again (and again)...
I think it depends on the humor itself! THIS - "I like it, I like it!!" But some of the recent stuff - eh. this is art! (but then I would say the same about the humor from US today - EH - or even 'no thanks!')
Someone just refered me to this show and your channel- hadn't seen this show before. I assume the first episodes are just to hard to find- hence the stills. Stay Healthy Friend 🙏🌎☮️
The TV tapes were lost or over written and this sound recording is all that is left as I understand it. This isn't at the begining of the whole TV show.
If I'm not mistaken Walker is being played by another actor, not the one they show in the photos. But I really thank you for posting this it is brilliant.
Beautiful, honestly, that you have uploaded this! The only issue would be that apparently James Beck isn't in the radio version, and I just love his voice.
@UghMazing , you are right that it was in series Two of the tv show 1969. But , They , BBC, wiped that version. So this is from the radio series 1 , of which this is the only recording and made in July 1973. You can confirm yourself by Wikky the question on dads army radio series episodes and dates. Alas the good spiv had gone up to the big smoke to see some geezer.
2:23 -- RE: Brass Knobs; Hadn't really thought about where "Bed-Knobs and Broomsticks" got its inspiration, but *NOW* I have a better idea. Broomsticks would be useful for Witches, *OR* as a substitute for a rifle. Yay, the Old Home Guard.
That part was played by a transsexual actor called Jimmy daisy chain. The actor who played walker was captured by the Germans just before this episode was aired .he later escaped but was never the same after his incarceration in stalag 69
Other than Godfrey and occasionally Wilson, Jones I don’t like any character on this show. Non stop posturing and characters like the ARP warden and the Church Verger only had one line ARP = I’m in charge, Verger = The Vicar isn’t going to like this, no he will not. Every episode is the same.
@goinghomesomeday1 your right of course but I actually found out later, long after I forgot i made this comment that Beck died suddenly from peritonitis due to a fall he suffered while at a charity event he sponsored to raise money to provide the guide dogs for the blind in between series 5 and 6.. He’s credited with appearances in series 6 because the location filming for that season was completed before he died. I’m from the US and I had limited exposure to British TV and became a fan of Beck Rik Mayll Sean Lock and most recently Paul Ritter and I was gutted by learning they were all dead. Mayall and Lock I knew of before their deaths. Take care my friend

George, you are a cross generational, international cultural hero! Thank you..
Grew up with this on the radiogram...good time then....51 now....times were just better then....less bullshit

Watched this when it first came out ... very fond memories!! Thanks so much.
Many thanks, love these!!
This was brilliantly refreshing to hear....I swear I was watching the actual episode!

Thank you so much for all your work here my friend.
Thank you 💕
Thank you so much for this very lovely program with the photos, or clip from the original it was spellbinding! Thank you!
Brilliant 👍. Thanks for this 😊.
4:35 -- *THREE CHEERS FOR WALKER,* Spivving it up like a proper dandy.
I loved all of them...
i shed a tear or two when ''''''walkers'''''' voice came in... that was an apocalyptic letdown.
but other than that, i liked it, when you, like many others among us, have seen all episodes about 5 million times, you can picture the whole episode

cheers for this george..i havnt head this before.great work

That is not the original Walter??
The whole nation addicted on or at or in or sub, Whiskey 🥃.
Dad's army an art of genius
Wonderful...
Shame it wasnt the original actor voiceing walker!!
It sound to me like it is voice of actor who played verger.
Just Love them!!

Leuk!👍
Okay, I THOUGHT that didn't sound like him! Just read through the notes. Love these shows!!! thanks so much
yeah had me scratching my head and wondering too, deff didnt sound like "our joe"

I did a bit of research and discovered that Graham Stark filled in for the original Walker (James Beck) because he (Beck) had died.
Beautiful, honestly, that you have uploaded this! The only issue would be that apparently James Beck isn't in the radio version, and I just love his voice.
James Beck was already dead, by the time this episode of the D. A. radio show was made. He died of a burst pancreas at the age of 44.
@@finbarrbuckley2229 i see, so they made the radio show well after the original show?
He died in '73. This was made in 1969. He was still alive then

Surely Graham Stark should have been shown here instead of James Beck. Everyone here will know that it wasn't James Beck in this Radio version.
Definitely Michael Knowles playing Cutts. Walker definitely not James Beck, it sounds like Alfie Bass to me
I am with you, I am obsessed 🥰
Have I heard the voice of Walker in episodes of 'Are you being served ' ? .
I made a mistake I thought it was a video not radio program
The video's are lost unfortunately... this is the max we can do
I would have thought they could at least get an actor who could do a Cockney accent to play Walker.
This is NOT Walker's voice!
brass knobs
The verbal comedy in the radio version is actually better than in the show, imo.
Who voiced Walker ? Because it wasnt James beck
It was Graham Stark.
These episodes aren't extras on the dvds of the series.🙊🙉🙈
They should have made this into an animated version instead of getting fresh actors to re-do it a couple of years ago.
That "Madam Chairman" sounds like a man🤔 The voice of "Walker" doesn't sound like the actor who plays him either.
Played by Graham Stark on the radio after the death of James Beck
That part was played by a transsexual actor called Jimmy daisy chain. The actor who played walker was captured by the Germans just before this episode was aired .he later escaped but was never the same after his incarceration in stalag 69
That's not Walker.
Wow its amazing you noticed that.....good for you cupcake !
@@SCALE_SLOTCARS Anyone who thinks that's Walker is living in the world of fantasy.
I think most of us normal folks know that already!
