It's very difficult to either criticise or critique your work as your builds are awesome! It's great hearing you speak, not only about the process but the history of the aircraft. Congrats for the 10K subs....truly deserving.
I don't care so much about flat vs gloss finish over the base paint, but calling them "deckles" is unacceptable. Seriously, though, great vid, and I wish it was twice as long for all the excellent comments you give about what you're doing and how you do it.
I’m glad to see you’ve included a bit of history behind the Skyraider. It helps to give life to the model. I noticed you sprayed heavily on the exhaust. That’s perfect!! I stood on a wing to a real Skyraider to take photos of the cockpit. I leaned forward to get better shots. My mistake! When I pulled myself away, I was covered with exhaust & soot stains all over my body. Gary
Great build. I've had this kit next to me at my workbench, and am studying the best way to bring it to life. Your paint job and some of the finer details will help me do just that. Thanks!
The museum where I volunteer has 2 flying skyraiders which are used in a SCAR reenactment for airshows. The plane currently located at the Cavanaugh Flight Museum in Addison, TX.
Excellent build , I loved it. I've been building for over 40 years and I always learn new things from these videos. Thank you. I've always used the gloss coat first understand my decals because I can't always guarantee the surface will be smooth enough. Some decals react better than others to having some flaws on the surface so having failing eyesight I will always gloss coat. Then a good wash then decals then I use pastels to tone down the decals followed by a flat coat. Although I loved your effect of weathering the decals with your airbrush I'm not sure I'm brave enough to do that! I
I remember making a Revell Skyraider approx 50 years ago! It had a crazy feature that (I think) moved flaps etc when you closed the landing gear. I was ten. It didn't work. Such memories. Stunning talent and so informative too. Big thumbs up and a sub from me.
I’m getting ready to start this kit as Paper Tiger 2, the “toilet bomber”. An interesting connection to the history you mentioned is that this Tamiya kit has decals for the wingman of that toilet bomber (577) and I think that was the plane that shot down the MiG.
Even tho you cant see them I usually always go all out in the cockpit, no photo etch I just make sure every little switch, dial, button lever is painted and looks good, its super fun to do that and just makes it feel more alive
Brilliant work! I am still working on my exhaust staining as some of the Air Force planes had a lighter brownish staining amongst the black soot. I was told it was the lead in the fuel.
The Skyraider is one hell of a plane an yours 1:48th replica turned out great! Looking forward to the Mustang madness!... Zero will be fine in the meantime! :-) Nice to meet you! Greetings from Romania!
Great build! It turned out looking so good. You provide amazing advice and small history lessons in your videos. I agree with you and I have put decals on without a gloss coat but I now put on a gloss coat just as a protection layer for my paint work! Keep it up! :)
I look forward to your vids mate, discovered my love of modelling since lockdown started. Built a Zero and Wildcat dogfight for my sons ceiling, Zero won. No airbrush all brush finish but some good results if patient.
You do have the speech a good modeller should have. It was a real well spended time whatching your video. I am still not sure to go 1/48 or 1/32 Skyraider....Thank you for the video and the honest opinion used. Cheers!
Hey! I just came across your channel. Very nice build. I have subscribed to your channel and look forward to see all those builds in the future. I’m a big fan of the P51 mustang and corsair.
Excellent work on this kit. The level of depth you added using the various techniques was fantastic and help bring the aircraft to life. Thanks for the tips. I'm just getting ready to begin the build on this kit. I'll let you know how they pan out as the build progresses.
Congrats, Model Guy :) I like the idea of building the same aircraft from different makers, I'm planning on something similar with the Fw 190A. Take care.
Wow. I had the Monogram version of your plane. Same markings and color scheme. I had this as a kid in the 70s/80s. Don't remember finishing that kit. Wonder if it is in my basement somewhere :-)
Wow i loved watching this build hearing the facts about the plane while you were doin it made it a very enjoyable video and hearing why you used certain techniques subscribed
The build is fantastic, good work man. I have no right to critique it as my skills are nowhere near yours. I always love channels that have a person talking about the build an the choices they made during the build. Love the style. Subbed and will watching your other work :)
Great job on the Skyraider...I really like the color variation on the paint...well done...I have those stencils as well, but have not used them yet...I have an upcoming build video of the FW-190D-12 from Hobbyboss and I'll use the stencils for that paint job...looking forward to Mustang Madness...happy modeling
I've had this kit in the stash for ages...now I think it's time to build it! Great video as always...I really like how you include the history of the subject too. You're bound to get shade from the "YOU MUST" brigade over the gloss coat thing. It's ridiculous really. Even when folks have the evidence, right in front of their eyes, they still feel compelled to say "it's wrong." I never gloss before and non of my completed builds have silvered decals. But...if some folks feel that it helps them, then each to their own. Dogma will always be present in the hobby. Congrats on the subs Robbie and it's good to put a face to the voice. 👍
It's already begun. I got kicked off of a Facebook group a few weeks back for saying a gloss coat wasn't needed. It was a "drink the juice or go" moment
While my first two aircraft were 1/72 Lancasters, I'm interested in building planes in 1/48 instead. The Skyraider is one of the kits I'm looking at. Tamiya does appear to be the best choice from the Amazon reviews.
Oh crap....made me wanna get another Skyraider (damn you! 😉😆😂) or several! Think that I'll try them there 1/32 Trumpeter kits this time.... Beautiful work mate! 👍🏻👌🏻👏🏻🏆🥇
Nice build👍🏻 I’ve had my eye 👁 on this kit for a while. I totally agree on not having too use clear before decals. I’m in the middle of the Airfix P-51 nice kit with good details but get ready to get the modeling skills out. Mine had a short shot just forward & around the tail wheel 🤬. Took a fair bit of putty & shaping. Got it in primer & surprised myself. Some good decal options in that one two. I’m doing the RAAF one of cause. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻👍🏻🙃🙃
I didn't know the designers of the A-10 were thinking about the Skyraider but I myself have recognized the connection and how their roles are the same, with the A-10 being the more modern version. I'll add my other comparison, I wonder if, when designing the Skyraider Douglas engineers were thinking about the previous British Hawker Typhoon, which was a real beast to handle and had some deadly quirks but had tremendous performance, could also carry heavy loads at high speeds and wing loading yet maneuverable with its 2,500 HP engine and 14 foot propeller.
How do you store your build ? how do you protect them from dust ? I'll go back to this hobby after almost 30 years and all the technics you show are new to me and I'll start with this kit.
Thanks Robbie for a very nice build video! Very fine result, way beyond anything I produce. About panel lines, have you done panel lines in a lighter hue? If so, what was the result? Asking because my panel lines always pops too much with black and I'm in a building pause.
Awesome Spad, I have the same kit but I’m going to build it as Dieter Dengler’s Spad, I’ll do custom paint masks and decals for it. Our home towns in Germany are about 30 minutes apart.
An absolutely fantastic build much enjoyed and a couple of tips tucked away, Any chance of a directors cut (Longer please) and I'd be interested in how you mask your canopies particularly the inside, I struggle with the outside, the inside is almost nightmare material. 👍👍
Talkng about Zero's. Recently just saw a movie called Eternal Zero. It's a Japanese production, made around 2012, with English subtitles. It follows a modern day Japanese family researching the death of thier grandfather, a highly experienced, irreplaceable IJN fighter pilot throughout WW2, only to die in the last days of the war flying a Zero in a Kamakazi attack. Lots of good Zero flying scenes and a very interesting/emotional perspective from the Japanese side. Definitely worth a watch.
I appreciate the quick recap n history of the aircraft in your builds, and the tips and tricks you give during the build. Excellent job and thank you.
@@LostInADV thanks Lost, I’m glad you enjoyed it
It's very difficult to either criticise or critique your work as your builds are awesome! It's great hearing you speak, not only about the process but the history of the aircraft. Congrats for the 10K subs....truly deserving.
Yay! My no.1 critique of all the absolutely amazing modelers that do tremendous weathering is that the decals look straight from the factory!
I don't care so much about flat vs gloss finish over the base paint, but calling them "deckles" is unacceptable. Seriously, though, great vid, and I wish it was twice as long for all the excellent comments you give about what you're doing and how you do it.
Fabulous build love it thanks for great videos cannot wait for your next project 👍 🇬🇧 🙂
Nice and clear description on the weathering. Very informative, thank you.

Lovely model and some good description of how you achieved this. Thanks for all the effort.
My good God! I find it difficult to even paint a barn door and can only marvel at your skill and knowledge in painting model aircraft.
Another excellent video from you as well as an excellent job building and painting your Tamiya A-1H Skyraider too!

When people don't know what to criticize, they'll go for if you add too much detail to the kit or not. The SPAD looks great. Well done.
What a fantastic build! One of my favorite aircraft. Beautifully done! :)
I need to get one for my stash!
Tamiya's is the best option in 1/48.
Great build for a great warplane!

It's nice work. Especially, cockpit work is so hard and excellent. I'm happy that I could watch such as video. Thank you !!
I will have to try the no gloss coat decal application. Was somewhat unsure but seeing your build..... its worth a try.
Nice job! I really enjoyed the exhaust burn on the fuselage... Very realistic with the brand new prop!

It's such an ugly, but deadly aircraft.

Fantastic build well done mate
I like Tamiya too, and I hope you keep rocking!
Hi buddy your spad looks mega cool you have done a awesome job of the kit and the paint job mate thanks for sharing.
That just looks awesome! Please keep the videos coming.
Question...is the razer's saw and tamiya thin the only things you use to restore your panel lines? They look really well done.
@@bubbapipe That's it! The razor saw is very fine and makes very clean cuts
Even tho you cant see them I usually always go all out in the cockpit, no photo etch I just make sure every little switch, dial, button lever is painted and looks good, its super fun to do that and just makes it feel more alive
That's sweet. It also saves your butt if you realize there is a lot more visible when the glue holding the halves dry.
Excellent build. Great tips too.

You did a great job! I built this model also. It’s a great kit and I love it! 👍

Very nice it might of been cool to model the toilet they dropped on the the outer wing just for kicks
I missed my chance to get the resin toilet. At our club Christmas party someone was selling it but I didn't have plans to get the Spad
Great build, I want to build the air force version thanks for sharing the video I found to be very informative
I have a bias towards Navy aircraft but that South East Asia camo looks fantastic.
I agree that you don't need the gloss coat prior to decals. However I do like having a protective layer between each step.
Nice build! What thin brush do you use to paint the yellow strip on the bombs?

With black basing it doesn't force panel lines to be darker. By building the paint slowly up you can control how much weathering shows through.
