* Bette (pronounced like BET) is a triple threat. A wonderful singer, incredible actress, and a hilarious comedian. 🎵🎬❤
She also can dance. Quadrupole threat
She was called "the Divine Miss M," for good reason.
Bette is a legend. she sings, acts and is an amazing performer.
Bette Midler has an amazing voice. If you've never heard "Wind Beneath My Wings," by her you should check it out! It was on the soundtrack for Beaches, which Bette was one of the main characters.
I love that movie so much. After many viewings, at one point I would start crying during the OPENING credits. 😆
I concur on both. Sincerely KSO should see both the movie and react to the song. Both are very meaningful and would appeal to her extremely.
Beaches such beautiful movie Bette milder songs from movie have such beautiful meaning
Colleen Hewitt singing wings beneath my Wings destroys miller also released 8/9 years earlier
My mom and her sister were a liitle estranged when the movie beaches came out. They both happened to see it the same weekend. Then tears and reconcilliation happend after 🌹
This is an incredible song from an incredible movie . If the song Moves you emotionally it would move you 10 times more if you saw it in the context of the movie . There are so many emotional moments in this film, I'd like to end this comment by saying we don't serve hippies here . You going to have to watch the film to know what that means . Great reaction!
You said it all. And also, Alan Bates is super hot in that movie.
"That's ok cause we don't eat them neither!" I'm a wreck during the last 10 to 15 minutes of that movie!
This movie, loosely based on Janis Joplin, was really good, and this song is beautiful.
Where did you get Janis,?
@@briankettleson290 The Rose was originally meant to be a biopic about Janis but her family wouldn't let them do that, so the script was changed so that Rose was a Janis Joplin type.
@@LilRocker2005 maybe a movie was made using the song. But this song has nothing to do with Janis Joplin.
@@briankettleson290 The movie loosely based on Janis that uses Bette Midler's recording The Rose is also called The Rose.
Not it's basically true 😀
I clicked on this one quick (don't know why, this song always makes me misty eyed - so I knew you'd be reaching for the tissues in due time!)
Bette did such a beautiful job with this song!
She also was on Broadway as Dolly in the musical Hello Dolly. She won a Tony for it.
A GREAT movie..."The Rose". The story is a bit of Janis Joplin.
Uhmm no
Bette Milder has sang some of the most beautiful songs ever. Including wind beneath my wings from the movie beaches. It's 1 of the first songs and movies I remember just bawling my eyes out to. Yes I'm a 40 year old man but I'm not afraid to be emotional when it merits it.
The Rose was that Bette Midler movie for me! I was 10 when I first saw it and to this day I bawl my eyes out during that last 10 or 15 minutes!
Hell, I was that 13 year old boy in the theater bawling at the end of Titanic! According to my parents, the entire theater could hear me bawling!
I'm so glad you enjoyed this. It rips my heart out every time. The movie will wreck you.
This song ALWAYS makes me cry! Bette Midler is so good at expressing emotion in her singing.
I love her concert film “Divine Madness.” Here’s a great clip of “You Can’t Always Get What You Want/I Shall Be Released” ua-cam.com/video/nZR4rRbkTKs/v-deo.html
Some GREAT performances in that show!
I know she did other great songs, but this one will always be my favorite.
You are my favorite reactor. I love how you feel music. I live for music too.
Oh- there’s a fantastic movie called “Beaches.” It’s a MUST watch, if you never have- 2 life long best friends journey together- highs and lows- absolutely a classic! 🥰😘
Bette is pronounced like “bet”. She was named after Bette Davis which is pronounced differently. Anyway, she is one of my favorite singers. She sang a song with Linda Ronstadt. Not a hit but nice. She sings and acts. The movie “Beaches” is a touching movie. I have seen Bette in concert a few times and on Broadway twice. She’s a great talent and known for being outrageous especially in the 1970’s. Love her!
Wanna cry your eyes out? Watch "Beaches".
Bette got nominated for an Oscar for the movie this comes from.
I think she lost to Sissy Spacek for her portrayal of Loretta Lynn - - another great movie with a lot of great songs.
Bette Midler won the Golden Globe for the movie in 1980. The film and song were released in 1979. Amanda McBroom wrote the song that soared to the top of the charts.
I believe this was 1979- I think Bette Midler lost to Sally Field for "Norma Rae" .
The following year, '80, Spacek won over Mary Tyler Moore in "Ordinary People" and Gena Rowlands for "Gloria" - can't remember the other two nominees. Winners ALL through!
however, due to a technicality ( the song was not actually written for the movie but inserted later) the song "The Rose" was NOT nominated for the best song Oscar.
This song always brings a tear to my eye!
She’s super funny as well. Watch her in “Ruthless People” and “The First Wives Club”...(her name is pronounced Bett- not Betty).
And don't forget her performance in Hocus Pocus.
And Outrageous Fortune with George Carlin and Shelly Long
And any clips of her doing her Sophie Tucker jokes.
First Wives Club is one of my favorite movies.
My wives middle name is Rose, so this song always reminds me of her.
I love bette midler, she's awesome. What a performer
🌹💗😊👌 beautiful lyrics !
Among the most beautiful, poetic lyrics I've ever heard. Credit to songwriter Amanda McBroom, as well as Bette Midler, for bringing this song to life.
This song always brings tears to my eyes.
You need to hear her song “From a Distance “.
I actually like Nanci Griffith's version of that better. (And Kathy Mattea does a good version too.)
@@fnjesusfreak that is Bette Midler's hit song...nobody else's.
@@kristopherwilhite I grew up listening to a country station out of Pulaski, NY...obviously they'd never play Bette but they sure played Kathy Mattea's version and even sometimes Nanci Griffith's. They grew on me. 🤪
Well done and especially well commented, as allways lady. I know, that this one hits you deeply. You´re right. Many people don´t know the meaning of love or just treats it as a common good. Make to consume like any other trading stuff. If it don´t fits anymore just abandon this feeling, together with the person they ones loved. Me, I ones was, a simple german navyman serving my country and the woman I love. She abandoned me, cause of my job. She was alone too long. I understood that. Later, she married another guy . Six years later, when our only son died in a train accident and she broked down, this guy left her. I was there, immediatly. I quit the job, just to be at her side. Cause she was my first love, the mother of our son.Never stopped loving her.. Well, we married again 17 years ago now. She granted our love with two lovely daughters. And yes, there is allways something growing, even in the darkest hours. Sometimes you have to fight for it. But there is no greater goal to fight for then your love and the well beeing of your loved ones. Stay safe and healthy out there. Greetings from a simple german sailor.
This is my all time favorite song
I’ve been a huge fan of Bette Midler since I was a small child. She truly is special.
I’ve heard this song a million times & I have chills along with you 🌹
Such a talented Lady, missing you Bette. 😢
I was watching the movie when I had to answer the phone; hospital was calling to say my mother had died. I've never been able to watch the film since, and it took me more than thirty years before I could listen to the song again. kerk
The Devine Miss M.
She participated in We are the world. You may have seen her there.
"Wind beneath my wings", is such an emotional song from the movie Beaches
You need to add this movie "The Rose" to your movie list released in 1979 the actress and singer's name is actually Bette Midler I think you have an "R" in your title in the name Bette, she plays a singer and the inspiration for the singer in the movie was Janis Joplin but she's not playing Janis Joplin. This has been a favorite song of mine so thanks for doing this. I think as other's have reference below you will also like "Wind Beneath My Wings" that is from another movie she stars in called "Beaches" in 1988 consider adding that to your drama list the official video with clips from the movie may not be best if you are going to watch that movie as well, and Beast of Burden is a fun one and I think you will really like "From a Distance" 😊
She's my hero. The Rose. Beautiful
The song and movie were released in 1979. The song was written by Amanda McBroom. Bette Midler won the Golden Globe for the movie in 1980. She went onto other ballads in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Melissa Manchester was part of her back-up singers, called The Harlettes, in the early 1970s. Katey Sagal, later known as Peg Bundy in "Married...with Children," was as well.
When I was younger I was a contemporary dancer. I did a routine to this and I cried everytime, even during every rehearsal. One of my most proudest and favorite routines.
I was 14 or 15 when this song came out and the first time I cried. And now 40 years later.... I still cry
Here you go again making me cry again. Love these tender songs. I'm so glad I'm not the only one who feels the music and the message. Thankyou.
Girllllllll (lady), those chills you feel when the song touches your soul...that's the Holy Spirit lifting you up!❤🕊
That’s exactly how I feel.❤
This song is so heart wrenching. Touches you so deeply. No matter how hard things are they will get better and become the rose
Bette Midler is just an amazing singer which makes her an icon in music history. I saw the movie "The Rose" and for me I honestly did cry at the end. I am an emotional person also but the movie is just so touching. I knew about the person she enacted in the movie and it is just an amazing role.
Just love Bette Midler, not only an amazing singer, but if you watch the movie, The Rose, her acting is outstanding x
From a Distance is another great Bette Midler song. Great reaction!
The movie "The Rose' is loosely based upon the life and death of Janis Joplin. I used to perform this song quite often. I hadn't heard it in a long time however. Thank you for reminding me. ♥
The part that always makes me emotional is ( The soul that's afraid of dying , that never learns to live ) too many people close to me , never got pass this hurdle and lived and died a sad , lonely life , so it hurts to hear that part , for me at least
One of the very BEST. A song of my youth, and my heart.
A beautiful song sung by a beautiful lady. Thank you for the reaction.
I know, right? It's sooo beautiful...I get teary every time
Haven't ever been much of a Bette Midler fan, but I've always loved this song.
You may be interested to know that it was Bette's cover of Leon Russell's song "Superstar" that resulted in Carpenters' covering it...Richard heard Bette perform it on TV...
From the film, "Beaches". A real tear jerker. Bette Midler's voice is a marvel. Explore.
Beautiful song and lyrics! The Rose is a great film as well.
A fantastic song fom a great movie sung by an iconically talented Diva.
Gives me goosebumps!
One of those songs that makes me cry (there aren't a lot) - not surprised you reached for the Kleenex!
A classic song 👍
I'm generally not a fan of Bette Midler, but I love this song. So much emotion packed into such a simple melody.
Anybody not crying is a monster
It's a great song. I love the way it builds. And builds. And builds. And then just drops you back.
Man I forgot this song, so beautiful.
This song rips my heart open every time I hear it
I loved the movie ❤ I love the singer and the actress
I haven't heard this song in so long -- years. In the past it always moved me, and I loved it (my mum did too), but for some reason, for the first time here, it made me cry like a baby. A lot has happened since I last listened to it way back then, but I guess something in that time must have seen me connecting with it on a very deep level.
We're all worthy of love, even if it scares us or breaks our heart at times. We're all worthy of a great, enduring love.
This is my absolute favorite song of all time!
I think you'd love "From a Distance" and "Wind Beneath My Wings" also by Bette (pronounced 'Bet'). Bette has had decades of wonderful songs, both popular hits and others more obscure you'd find by listening to her albums. "Glory of Love" from her movie Beaches is also great. Too many to list here.
I love how sensitive you are and aren't afraid to show it. You are such a lovely lady.
Bette Midler with Mick Jagger: "Beast of Burden"
Oh yes! Let's rock out.
Awesome song!
Girl when you close your eyes and say Yeesss.. I feel that... 💛💚💙💗🤍
Thank you for reacting to this song! Isn't it amazing? Before I even clicked "play," I knew this one would make you weepy. How could it not?? In addition to having a beautiful voice, Bette is a fantastic actor: Ruthless People, Big Business, and of course Hocus Pocus (co-star Doug Jones reportedly could not stop laughing when he first saw Bette in her buck-toothed witch make-up). She does an *incredible* cover of "I Put a Spell On You" in that last movie, absolutely astounding.
one of the greatest song ever written and performed
I Just love that song. The movie is great too. Bette is the best!!!
Beautiful song! Better Midler sings it phenomenally!!
It's not possible to listen to this song without crying. 💖
A brilliant song from 1979, that is still tugging on heart strings. Written by Amanda McBroom who sings harmony vocals.
Bette is my favorite female artist of all time. She’s also as actress. Watch Beaches and you’re mind will be blown
The pain of a beautiful life.
Tears are life. Love is everything.
Makes the list of my top 50 fave songs ever. Beautiful stuff.
R.I.P. Janis.... The love you shared with us all lingers on. Thank you. Love your thoughts and commentary afterwards. So true, especially now a days. Most simply have no clue what "Love" really is, no clue what so ever. In themselves or how it functions or what its made up of.... And if its not what THEY want or fits what THEY percieve? They stop, shut it off, like its a water faucet and abandon it on a whim. Shut themselves off, turn their backs instantly on whomever they had said the words to as if it vanishes if/when it doesn't jive with their own limited understandings.
Great movie
Beautiful lyrics....when love fails, you can't be afraid to love again. "From a Distance"
One of my favourite songs... and reminds me of my Nan whose name was rose 🌹 and it always brings a tear to my eye
I like watching you because you bring out the beauty in your soul 🥰😍🥰🥰😍🥰😍
Love love love your reactions.... You never disappoint!! Especially with strong emotional songs like this!! When I saw you did a reaction to this, I had to watch it!! You have a Big Loving Heart, like me!! I knew you'd be reaching for that tissue!
GOOSEBUMPS!!! Love me some Bette! Love & Light ❤️🙏😇
Wind beneath my Wings is a Bette Midler must .
Here's what the writer of the song, Amanda McBroom had to say:
People often ask me what inspired me to write The Rose. Here is the story:
I was driving down the freeway one afternoon, some time in 1970-something.
I was listening to the radio. A song came on the radio. It was “MAGDALENA” by Danny O’Keefe, sung by Leo Sayer. I liked it immediately. My favorite line was “Your love is like a razor. My heart is just a scar.”I thought,”Ooh, I love that lyric.”
As I continued to drive down the road the thought came, I don’t agree with the sentiment. I don’t think love is like a razor. (I was younger then.) What, then, do I think love is? Suddenly, it was as if someone had opened a window in the top of my head. Words came pouring in. I had to keep reciting them to myself as I drove faster and faster towards home, so I wouldn’t forget them. I screeched into my drive way, ran into the house, past various bewildered dogs and cats and husbands, and sat down at the piano. Ten minutes later, THE ROSE was there.
I called my husband, George, into the room and played it for him, as I always did with my new songs. He listened, and quietly said to me, “You’ve just written a standard.” I protested that no one but my pals would ever hear it. (This is long before I had ever recorded anything.) He said,”Mark my words, something is going to happen with this song.”
A year or so later, a great young songwriter named Michele Brourman, who became my primary musical collaborator and best friend, said “Listen. There is this movie coming out called “The Rose”. They are looking for a title tune. Do you want me to submit this to them?” I had never really tried to submit this song to anyone. I didn’t consider myself a song writer at the time. So I said, “Sure.” Originally the film had been called THE PEARL, which was Janis Joplin’s nick name. But her family refused permission to use that name. Lucky for me. “Pearl” is MUCH harder to rhyme.
She submitted the tune to the producers, who HATED it. They thought it was dull and a hymn and NOT rock and roll and totally wrong. They put it in the reject box. But the divine Paul Rothchild, who was the music supervisor on the film, and had been Janis Joplin’s producer, hauled it out and asked them to reconsider. They again said no. So he mailed it to Bette. She liked it, and that’s how it got into the film and changed my life forever.
It is very hymnic. There are actually hymns that could be set to this tune. But that's a GOOD thing, it makes it timeless.
It was a great song when Bette Midler did it, it was a great song when Conway Twitty did it and it was a great song when LeAnn Rimes did it.
Sounds like a download from God, wow, very inspirational, other artists and musicians have stated that similar inspiration like this are from The Lord himself, like it was meant to be heard and felt. Thank you for this back story.
Incredible, writers must dream of writing something like this. Well done and hope you lived a life with this song.
You need to watch the movie The Rose with Bette midler
What a loving heart you must have to be so touched by some of the beautiful music you've listened to on this channel. Thank you.
I think this might be one of the most beautiful songs ever.
I knew you'd appreciate this song. One of the most beautiful of all time. The lyrics are so meaningful.
Conway twitty done a version of this song that will cause goosebumps
I didn't know this. I'll have to check it out. Thank you.
Vi la pelicula en los 80 y adore a bette midler y este tema.
Always gives me goosebumps and used to make me bawl like a baby.
Wow! Thank you Sincerely!
So far you're the only person who has reacted to this song! I've requested it in other channels but to no avail. Thank you. I'm happy that you enjoyed this song and Bette Midler's singing as well. 🙂💖
Love, love love this song.
thank you Hunni, corrected it.
She not just a heck of a singer she’s also one heck of an actress
the best eppic movie of all time #TheRose based on the life and spirit of Janis Joplin.....a must see if yoy never have.....#BetteMidler best and epic proformance...still today the best ever done since 1979
What a great voice she has. Thanks for this reaction.
At the end where she sings “just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snow lies the seed that with the sun’s love in the spring becomes the rose” was saying that when we die we are born again. I guess because of Bette’s character in the movie dies. 🥲
Chills.
