Impressive work, great understanding of the Polish politics, which is usually missing among Western commentators, publicists, even scholars.
IIRC from history classes, Poland's democratic roots go back further than the Commonwealth. Sometime in the 1200's the king's council persuaded (forced?) him to sign an agreement stipulating that his council could veto his decisions if a large enough majority (3/4?) disagreed with him.
I recall that the king's decision to invite the Knights of the Cross to come in and handle the Prusi was a major factor in this but I don't remember exactly how.
This comment was a response but I think it may also be in the main thread because I put too much effort into it.
It's a perspective of a conservative Pole to why PiS didn't get a 3rd term. I also list my personal issues with the party. If you read carefully you can differentiate between my personal opinions and description of public mood.
So why did PiS lose, when in 2019 they had over 40% support? It started with covid, they introduced stupid policies like banning people from going to forest, put severe restrictions, broke constitution as health minister can't just overwrite civil liberties, they didn't introduce state of emergency, didn't pass nessecary legislation in parliament, it was all done by health minister who could decide wherever you can leave your house or not, wear a mask or not. Police had authority to judge if you left your house for a nessecary reason. For example, when I went joggin back then, I took a bag to pretend I went shopping if police stopped me. I met my friends in the middle of the forest, we couldn't show up together in urban areas. There was big mess with vaccines, medical equipment, minister paid millions of dollars to his wife's ski instructor "for covid purposes". They bought respirators from a f*cking arms dealer in Africa and then were shocked when they didn't arrive.
In July 2020 Morawiecki announced we "have beaten coronavirus and we don't have to fear it not more" just to close everything again on autumn, after presidential election.
At the same time they changed abortion law. Since the 90's abortion was illegal unless a woman was raped, it endangered her life or the fetus was damaged. Under the new law women had to give birth to damaged fetus, sometimes doctors missed when it became a danger for a woman's life so some of them died. It angered lots of people and sparked mass protests in 2020. Since then PiS support never reached 40%.
Later many corruption scandals caught up with them. Inflation was at the highest since 90's, partially because of dumb policy of central bank and overspending on social programs.
For example PiS wasted 60 million on election that didn't happen, spied on opposition with pegasus, gave their people mansions, etc.
Meanwhile Tusk came back, solidified PO and people forgot about faults of his previous govt. Right before the election there was a visa scandal where PiS officials were caught on selling Polish visas for bribes and also accused of uncontrolled migration. Tusk played almost a nationalist who wants to protect borders from PiS incompetence.
He also promised people not to take migrants from EU while still reparing relation and some believed him I guess.
In Poland people have a rosy view of EU and think of it as the rich, free, capitalist west that defeated USSR and wants to share it's prosperity with Poland. Also as a rich daddy that gives us money for free.
And those who are mad about ecological stuff rather vote for Konfederacja as PiS quietly agreed for fit for 55 and everything else. The main conflict with the EU was rule of law in Poland which they indeed f*cked up by appointing judges unconstitutionally. Meanwhile they couldn't defend real Polish interests in EU, making them ineffective. They got played by the commission, agreeing to link funds to rule of law, as a result Poland got no money from Covid renewal funds while bearing the responsibility of paying this debt.
To give credit PiS for some things, I think they made some good investments, especially in energy sector. They tried to strengthen the army, even if it was very late.
They responded to Belarussian immigration crisis properly. They responded well to the outbreak of Ukrainian war. They aren't woke, funded Polish culture instead of LGBT.
They cooperated well with local partners and the US, had some vision of Polish international politics.
They didn't allow illegal migrants into Poland, though gave away too many visas without a thought.
Their faults (in my opinion) were overspending on social programs, corruption scandals, damaging rule of law, f*cking up taxation with "Polish deal", it's so messy right now. Breaking constitution and civil liberties, especially during covid. Turning state TV into Polish version of KCTV and spending billions of it. Ineffective EU policy, wolf warrior diplomacy when they screamed a lot but bent over in many crucial areas.
But 'm afraid Tusk's goverment might be even worse. It appears he won't fix what PiS broke but tear down what PiS did right. But only time will tell. Right now I support Konfederacja, they are deeply flawed but all parties are and we must choose lesser evil.
Even though I'm leaning liberal/left (and support KO), I gladly gave +1 to this comment. I can see your effort to be as objective as possible and I really appreciate that. This is not something often seen in political discussions. You might be surprised (I was), but I agree with majority of your points and in other cases I can usually at least see where you are coming from.
@@psow4062 Ja osobiście głosowałem na PSL w tych wyborach, czyli częściowo na nową koalicję i nie miałem wysokich oczekiwań, ale i tak się zawiodłem.
Nie będę tu pisał o swoich oczekiwaniach, ale czym mnie już zdążyli zrazić.
1. Obietnice wyborcze jak zawsze okazały się kłamaniem w żywe oczy. Mam wrażenie, że do tego wyborcy przywykli, ale nie jest to żadne usprawiedliwienie.
W 100 konkretach od razu było widać, że część postulatów jest trudna do zrealizowania jak podniesienie kwoty wolnej od podatku do 60 000, a część absurdalna jak postawienie Dudy przed trybunał stanu.
2. Ja osobiście nie widzę żadnej próby pojednania narodowego, ani przywracania praworządności, jedynie zaostrzanie wojny polsko-polskiej. Jak media publiczne wyglądały za PiSu wszyscy wiedzą. Ale mimo wszystko oni przejęli je ustawą, zrobili jakąś podbudowę prawną. A Pan Minister Sienkiewicz znalazł sobie jakąś OPINIĘ prawną, że ta ustawa medialna była niezgodna z konstytucją, zrobił uchwałę, a wkrótce potem policja wtargnęła do budynków, często na chama przerywając transmisje. I nie trzeba szanować starego TVP, ani być PiSowcem, żeby widzieć, że tak się tego nie robi.
Mogli przygotować nową ustawę medialną po konsultacjach ze środowiskiem dziennikarskim, zagwarantować jakiś pluralizm, pójść z tym do prezydenta, jeśli by zawetował poinformować o tym społeczeństwo i zablokowane reformy zrobić stawką wyborów prezydenckich.
Ale woleli wynajdować kruczki prawne, żeby powsadzać ludzi, których uważają za "niezależnych". Nowe TVP nie prowadzi aż tak nachalnej propagandy, ale ma pro-rządowy bias. A może sobie pozwolić na subtelność, kiedy środowisko lewicowo-liberalne kontroluje w tym momencie zdecydowaną większość rynku medialnego.
Tak samo robią teraz z prokuraturą i przymierzają się do przejęcia TK. Powtarzam, partyjne przejęcie instytucji przez PO z rąk PiSu nie jest przywracaniem praworządności, a takimi metodami tworzy to anarchię, bo od teraz każdy rząd będzie miał precedens do robienia tego uchwałami. PiS narobił wiele szkód przez ostatnie 8 lat, ale oni też robili pod szczytnymi hasłami jak dekomunizacja instytucji. I trochę racji mieli, ale ich to nie usprawiedliwiało, tak samo jak nadużycia PiS nie usprawiedliwiają działań Tuska.
Temat Wąsika i Kamińskiego przegrzał PiS moim zdaniem, ale Tusk nie potrzebnie starał się ośmieszyć prezydenta (co mu wyszło zresztą, ale nie było korzystne moim zdaniem),
A sytuacja kiedy mamy sprzeczne wyroki Sądu Najwyższego, gdzie władza wykonawcza wybiera sobie te wyroki, które jej pasują, jest skrajnie niebezpieczna. Uważam, że panowie powinni siedzieć, ale w tym momencie jest to sprawa drugorzędna, wobec utrzymania porządku konstytucyjnego.
3. To co robią obecnie z edukacją to jest żart jakiś. Czarnek był kiepskim ministrem, ale zaczynam za nim tęsknić. Usuwanie zadań domowych, to czysty populizm i widać w wywiadach, że to było przemyślane jedynie w wymiarze politycznym, a nie eksperckim. Reformy edukacji są potrzebne, ale zadania domowe trzeba czymś zastąpić, potrzebny jest nowy system. A Tusk wykorzystujący dzieciaka na wiecu, który popłakał się jak ciężko ma w szkole, to było nie smaczne.
Do tego dojdzie nam indoktrynacja lewicowa taka jak np. w Kanadzie i obawiam się, że większość ludzi nie zdaje sobie sprawy jak daleko to może pójść.
Zajmijmy się drugim ministerstwem od nauki wyższej. Na dzień dobry zabrali mojej uczelni (Politechnika Poznańska) 200 milionów, bo rzekomo byliśmy "pieszczochem Czarnka". Pieniądze miały iść na centrum nowych technologii z komputerem kwantowym, miało się między innymi tam kształcić inżynierów jądrowych.
Ale po co nam takie rzeczy, politechnika starała się o to od lat, Niemcy wydają grube miliardy, ale my Polacy mamy być tanią siłą roboczą.
Szczerze mówiąc to przelało u mnie czarę goryczy.
4.Kolejną rzeczą są tańce w okół kluczowych inwestycji, które powinny być ponadpartyjne.
Ja rozumiem, że PiS upolitycznił CPK, ale nie jest tak trudno poczytać raporty ekspertów i wyliczenia, żeby widzieć, że jest to potrzebne przedsięwzięcie. O którym zresztą już się mówiło za pierwszych rządów Tuska (wtedy nazywało się to CPL).
A próba zmiany lokalizacji elektrowni jądrowej to dla mnie już typowe działanie na szkodę państwa. Budujemy je od 50 lat chyba, w końcu mamy umowę, skończone badania środowiskowe, to wtedy przychodzi nowy rząd i "testuje" opinię publiczną informacjami, że może nie tu tylko gdzie indziej.
Wielu ekspertów badało tamten teren, przez wiele lat. Po prostu już to skończmy, bo kryzys energetyczny jest na horyzoncie.
Za to mamy aferą lobbingową, gdzie mąż posłanki Polski 2050, która przepychała przepisy odnośnie wiatraków, pracuje w niemieckim Siemensie.
5. Budżet. Rozdawnictwo PiSu utrzymane, rozdawnictwo PO dodane, a na obietnic typu zwiększenie kwoty wolnej pieniędzy oczywiście nie ma. Rekordowy deficyt budżetowy, tak zaczynamy ten rok. Do tego Tusk, który niegdyś głosił hasła o tanim rządzie, powołał 107 ministrów i wiceministrów, co przebiło rządy Morawieckiego. Czym konkretnie zajmuje się ministerstwo równości poza obarczaniem mężczyzn o całe zło świata?
Czy zrówna wiek emerytalny?
Jeśli przeczytałaś to całe to gratuluję, trochę musiałem to z siebie wyrzucić, ale uświadamianie innych ludzi jest ważne. W dużym stopniu napisałem to jednak, żeby zebrać te myśli w jednym miejscu i je zapisać.

1. Obietnice wyborcze zawsze są problemem w przypadku koalicji. Świetnie to widać w przypadku aborcji - gdyby nie Trzecia Droga, to pewnie byłaby już ustawa (odrębna kwestia, że Duda pewnie by nie podpisał). Taki mamy system, że wiele obietnic przepada na etapie konsultacji z koalicjantami (albo politycy po cichu się wycofują używając tego, jako pretekstu). PiS z resztą też złamał sporo swoich obietnic wyborczych i co ciekawe media (nawet niezależne) im tego nie wyciągały, tak jak teraz wyciągają obecnemu rządowi po raptem 1,5 miesiąca rządów.
2. Myślę, że rząd ma bardzo twardy orzech do zgryzienia z tematami praworządności, demokracji i pluralizmu mediów. Idealnie byłoby zrobić wszystko tak, żeby nie było żadnych wątpliwości prawnych. Tyle tylko, że PiS i SP kontrolują TK, większość SN, KRS, do niedawna prokuraturę (a od strony medialnej KRRiT i RMN). I te instytucje są zabetonowane przede wszystkim przez to, że Duda jest prezydentem. Czy mamy czas czekać 1,5 roku aż skończy kadencję? Na szali jest nie tylko Krajowy Plan Odbudowy - nasi wojskowi ostrzegają, że lepiej, żebyśmy już za 3 lata byli gotowi do wojny z Rosją. Z tej perspektywy uważam, że nie możemy sobie pozwolić na to, żeby jeszcze przez 1,5 roku państwo było w rozsypce.
Uważam, że potencjalne łamanie prawa przez rząd jest bardzo niebezpieczne (nawet w sytuacji wyższej konieczności), bo daje precedens do robienia tego później z byle powodu, oraz uczy społeczeństwo, że prawo to tylko wskazówki i wcale nie trzeba go przestrzegać (co też jest bardzo niebezpieczne). Jednocześnie moim zdaniem prawo nie jest najwyższą wartością samą w sobie, tylko jest narzędziem do tego, żeby utrzymywać porządek społeczny. Tymczasem PiS i SP bezprawnie weszły na ścieżkę prowadzącą do autorytaryzmu (jesteśmy gdzieś w połowie drogi między demokracją, a pełnym autorytaryzmem), oraz uzyskały bezkarność dla swoich, a potem zabetonowały ten system przy pomocy prawa. Czyli prawo zostało użyte niezgodnie, a wręcz sprzecznie z jego podstawowym celem (porządek społeczny) - czy mamy szanować takie prawo jeszcze przez 1,5 roku w imię zasad? Bardzo trudny problem, bez jednej, prostej odpowiedzi. Stąd nie dziwię się, że rząd wybrał najwyraźniej ścieżkę pośrednią, czyli załatwić to możliwie szybko, ale posłużyć się kruczkami prawnymi, które uprawdopodabniają, że całość działań jest legalna (a czy jest rzeczywiście, to już temat dla niezależnych prawników, bo co powie PiSowski TK, czy SN, to z góry wiadomo).
Temat Kamińskiego i Wąsika jest o tyle istotny, że dotychczas w Polsce ludzie władzy nie szli siedzieć, nawet jak mieli za co. Rzetelne rozliczenie zakończone surowymi wyrokami za wiele, wiele przestępstw PiSu i SP uważam za absolutną konieczność, inaczej prędzej, czy później ta patologia wróci.
3. W temacie edukacji nie siedzę, więc dużo nie powiem. Też mam mieszane uczucia co do prac domowych - pewnie trzeba było to ograniczyć, ale raczej nie całkowicie likwidować. Co do indoktrynacji, masz coś konkretnego na myśli? Bo indoktrynacją na pewno był HiT. Wątku o Politechnice Poznańskiej w ogóle nie znam.
4. Patrząc po tym, jak PiS lekką ręką inwestował w przekop Mierzei Wiślanej (inwestycja, która może się zwróci za 800 lat), czy 1,3 miliarda zł utopione w blok C w Ostrołęce, to osobiście uważam, że dobrze, że nowy rząd postanowił wszystkie, mające się rozpocząć inwestycje skontrolować. Chodzą też słuchy (zobaczymy, czy się potwierdzą), że politycy PiS tanio kupili ziemię w okolicach, gdzie mają być budowane te inwestycje - tak, żeby państwo musiało ją od nich wykupić i to na dobrych warunkach (potencjalna korupcja). Elektrownię atomową oczywiście potrzebujemy na wczoraj, natomiast, co do CPK mam mieszane uczucia - niech eksperci zdecydują, czy to rzeczywiście jest potrzebne.
5. Zgoda, co do budżetu. Pamiętaj jednak, że budżet w większości przygotował PiS i zadbał o to, żeby nowy rząd miał możliwie najmniej czasu na wprowadzenie w nim swoich zmian (pewnie będzie szereg poprawek do budżetu w tym roku). Też wolałbym mniej socjalne państwo, ale takie są obecnie realia polityczne - gdyby Tusk zapowiedział np., że zlikwiduje 500+, to dalej rządziłby PiS.
You forgot to mention that a Polish court officially ruled that PiS is in fact a crime organisation. And not long ago another court ruled they are also a fascist party.

1. Nikt nie kazał im tego nazywać "100 konkretów na pierwsze 100 dni rządów".
Na razie zrealizowali może 10.
Sami sobie narzucili harmonogram. Po pierwsze w 2015 PiS jednak bardziej próbował realizować swój program (jego słuszności nie będę tu rozpatrywał).
A też można mieć do nich zastrzeżenia, wielu rzeczy nie wprowadzili, jednak ich kluczowe postulaty chociaż CZĘŚCiOWO były realizowane. Jako obywatele znormalizowaliśmy sytuację, kiedy kampania wyborcza jest festiwalem obietnic, których potem politycy nawet nie próbują spełniać.
Wyborcy powinni żądać jednak jakiejś uczciwości. I argument, że Tusk "musiał tak zrobić bo inaczej by nie wygrał wyborów" nie jest żadnym usprawiedliwieniem. Populizm i mamienie ludzi nie powinny przechodzić bez echa.
A aborcja, gdzie jest spór ideologiczny pomiędzy partiami to pojedyncze przypadki.
2. Czyli wszystkie chwyty dozwolone, byle żeby pozbyć się PiSowców z instytucji i wstawić swoich ludzi? Partyjne przejęcie mediów, prokuratury, itd to NIE JEST przywracanie praworządności.
Nie jest to na pewno przywracanie żadnego porządku społecznego, tylko eskalowanie wojny polsko-polskiej i wprowadzanie państwa w stan pełzającej anarchii. PiS wykorzystał jednak mandat demokratyczny i legislacyjny, by dokonać (negatywnych) zmian. A Tusk wybiórczo mówi, że nie uznaje wyroków sądowych albo ustaw zamiast zmienić je w parlamencie.
A UE jedynie dolewa oliwy do ognia i co raz mniej wierzę, że im zależy na jakiejkolwiek praworządności w Polsce, tylko żeby mieć uległych ludzi u władzy i elementy nacisku na Polskę. Fakt, że Komisja Europejska zmusza nas do spełniania jakiś niezrozumiałych kroków (które wybiegają nawet poza spór o praworządność) jest bardzo niekorzystna. KPO to dług, który razem zaciągnęliśmy, a teraz zewnętrzny organ jakim jest KE, będzie zmuszała państwo polskie do skakania jak małpki, żeby odzyskać własne pieniądze. Domyślam się, że wszelkie próby wyrażania własnej opinii na temat polityki migracyjnej, czy klimatycznej i nie podążanie za głównym nurtem, będzie się wiązało z zamrażaniem pieniędzy dla Polski, skoro KE już ma takie narzędzia.
Jak już jesteśmy przy polityce klimatycznej, Polska prawdopodobnie będzie państwem, które najbardziej ucierpi na tym biznesie, bo nowe obostrzenia najbardziej uderzą w rolnictwo, przemysł i sektor transportowy, które u nas są dość mocno rozwinięte.
Przyszłość polski, jako suwerennego, rozwijającego się państwa jest ważniejsza niż pojedynczy zastrzyk pieniędzy.
3. Mogli dać na ministra edukacji jakiegoś bezideowego PO-wca, ale dali aktywistkę.
Dla Lewicy jest to bardzo cenne ministerstwo, bo indoktrynacja młodzieży to ich modum operandi na zachodzie, co do tej pory było bardzo skuteczne.
Oczywiście zaczyna się od braku zadań domowych, braku mierzenia czasu na WFie, bo należy promować ideę, że wszyscy ludzie są równi.
Wkrótce obowiązkowo będą kursy, że mamy 1000 płci, a słowo "biologiczna kobieta" stanie się tabu. Polecam zapoznanie się czym jest marksizm kulturowy i jak Lewica wdrażała go na zachodzie.
Wątek Politechniki wydaje mi się, że wyczerpująco opisałem. Miały być pieniądze na rozwój, a nie ma, tylko dlatego, że Czarnek je dał akurat. W tle jeszcze jest szczegół, że wiceminister był dziekanem na politechnice śląskiej. Pokazuje to jedynie małostkowość tych ludzi.
4. Przekop rzeczywiście nie był najlepszą inwestycją, natomiast co do CPK eksperci już się wypowiedzieli dosyć jednogłośnie. Wystarczy poszukać co mają do powiedzenia niezależne think tanki i eksperci z branży lotniczej.
Główna krytyka poleciała ze strony polityków i wspierających i mediów jak TVN, czy wyborcza, onet.
Warto zauważyć, że duża część z tych mediów jest kontrolowana przez kapitał zagraniczny.
Dodam jeszcze, że projekt był już na stole Donalda Tuska w 2011 i za budową centralnego lotniska opowiadał się jego własny minister.
5. Tutaj wracamy do punktu wyjścia. Mówisz właściwie, że "Tusk musi być populistą, żeby wygrać".
Jeśli robi dokładnie to samo co PiS to co za różnica kto rządzi? Poza pewnymi różnicami ideologicznymi i przynajmniej pozornie inną polityką zagraniczną, wychodzi na to samo. Moja optyka jest taka, że nowy rząd nie naprawia tego co zepsuł PiS, a to co PiS robił dobrze to niszczą.
Rozliczymy ich na koniec kadencji, ale na razie źle to wygląda.

@@alehaim AI or not, as a Pole involved in Polish politics, I must say it was quite correct. I must disagree on one issue though. I think you wrote that death of Lech Kaczyński was some kind of hurdle for PiS. Nah man. They were falling down in polls. This accident catapulted PiS to power.

One important thing - 1989 elections were not really free, 300 out of 460 seats were given to the communist party and its allies, while only 160 remaining seats were contested. The Senate elections had all 100 seats contested, but Senate is less important than Sejm (equivalent to the HoC (UK)/HoR (USA)

There are some mistakes here. Liberum veto wasn't initially created because of Lithuanians for example. And it's weird mentioning Kaczyński brothers' career in anticommunist opposition but failing to mention Tusk's participation in it. Tusk was jailed by communists and thrown out of university - he had to work as a blue collar worker till the communism ended. Meanwhile Jarosław wasn't jailed by communists and did a PhD on Marxism during that time. I'd say it's pretty obvious Kaczyńscy were less important in early Solidarity or at least the communist regime perceived it like that.
I wrote the script based largely on a few academic texts I could find and read through in English that gave me the majority of the basis for the history of the PiS, which obviously have showed some problems based on the comments.
I will admit the liberum veto mishap was due to remembering one text incorrectly and this was not catched by GP when he was went through the text.
The perhaps misproportional presentation of the Kaczynsky brothers role in Solidarity was also probably result of how I was focused on the story of the PiS which may have led to me having somewhat misplaced focus.

Very good video about Poland’s recent struggles, but there are at least two mistakes in the first part covering troubled history of Poland. First, March Constitution was introduced in 1921, not 1922. Second, Jaruzelski was not president in 1981.
The second part covering period 2015 - 2023 does not include all sins of PiS, as there were a lot more than mentioned here. Luckily, Poland is now a free country and I hope PiS will soon become history.

A very well reaserched and made video. Though there is one thing i think should be addressed, don't translate or transliterate names and surnames. And since, understandabely, it's hard for you to pronounce polish, maybe try using tools to pronounce it for you. Because it May lead non-polish speakers to get a false sense of polish pronounciation

It’s really hard to emphacise enough, how terrible TVP under PiS was. The amount of hate broadcasted there was just insane. It created a really toxic atmosphere through the country, especially among the elderly.
Surely, the way current gov sacked the old TVP authorities was shaddy (PiS fucked our legal system so much, that it’s often impossible to say, what is legal and what is not). But man: I did feel big relief when they were sacked.
One year without hate speech on public tv will pass and I do believe, that the atmosphere among the common folk will be much less tense.

I'm half polish and I find poles to be a bit racist and very religious even if they tell you there are not I tried to live there in 2021 but lasted six months and wouldn't do it again besides a lot of people are still stuck in their old mentality of comunism and still have some laws that were used back in the comunist days the young people speak that if they had a chance to leve for the west they would while the wages are much lower to that of Germany and just because they are part of eu they follow a different set of rules so basically the the eu is a shit system that only works in western Europe while Poland falls to the eastern block they get different treatment nice video tho 👍

It is too difficult to describe but Kaczynski was under the lech Walesa .These two group have hatred recently each other representing of two different groups of post solidarity movement one active students who could follow modern changes in new Poland , and the other group started to be jealous and watched how quickly developed middle class in Poland .This hate caused populism in Poland lead by Kaczynski .The simplest way to explain what happened . Society highly divided one part of Poland is rational and the other irrational. The Judiciary reform was to replace more skilled people with a second third benches who could never have been promoted ..

The fall of PiS is a disaster for Poland and the Eastern Europe as a whole.
The government of Mateusz Morawiecki was the most impressive government in the whole of Europe, it transformed Poland from a backward country into a major political, economical and military power, that everybody takes seriously.
They improved Polish educational system, built great infrastructure, attracted foreign investment, grew economy, diversified energy sector, built an impressive army, dealt with crisis on Belarusian border. They were taking active steps against Russian expansionism and Franco-German hegemony in the EU, steps against illegal immigration and EU neomarxist policies. I don't understand why people hate them.
Now under traitor Donald Tusk Poland will become again a colony of Berlin & Brussels. Decisions for Polish people will be made abroad, not in Warsaw and it certainly won't be in the interest of Polish people. That doesn't sound like democracy, does it?
You'd have to live here to understand. Poland wasn't such a backward country in 2015 and it isn't such a powerhouse now. 8 years under PiS was just another step forward, Polish economic rise began with reforms in 1990 and the biggest growth was in 90's and 2000's.
As to army all goverment in 21st century neglected it, including first 6 years of PiS. In 2022 they woke up and went into a shopping spree in panick.
But it will take untill 2035 to fully build up our army, right now it isn't ready for any war, we might not have time untill 2035. As they say better late than never, Tusk just has to fulfill the contracts and restore industry, maybe bring back conscription in some form but yeah he doesn't have the best track record. But situation now is different and people demand strong army.
So why did PiS lose, when in 2019 they had over 40% support? It started with covid, they introduced stupid policies like banning people from going to forest, put severe restrictions, broke constitution as health minister can't just overwrite civil liberties, they didn't introduce state of emergency, didn't pass nessecary legislation in parliament, it was all done by health minister who could decide wherever you can leave your house or not, wear a mask or not. Police had authority to judge if you left your house for a nessecary reason. For example, when I went joggin back then, I took a bag for shopping to pretend I went shopping if police stopped me. I meet my friends in the middle of the forest, we couldn't show up together in urban areas. There was big mess with vaccines, medical equipment, minister paid millions of dollars to his wife's ski instructor "for covid purposes". They bought respirators from a f*cking arms dealer in Africa and then were shocked when they didn't arrive.
In July 2020 Morawiecki announced we "have beaten coronavirus and we don't have to fear it not more" just to close everything again on autumn, after presidential election.
At the same time they changed abortion law. Before abortion was illegal unless a woman was raped, it endangered her life or the fetus was damaged. Under the new law women had to give birth to damaged fetus, sometimes doctors missed when it became a danger for a woman's life so some of them died. It angered lots of people and sparked mass protests in 2020. Since then PiS support never reached 40%.
Later many corruption scandals caught up with them. Inflation was at the highest since 90's, partially because of dumb policy of central bank and overspending on social programs.
For example PiS wasted 60 million on election that didn't happen, spied on opposition with pegasus, gave their people mansions, etc.
Meanwhile Tusk came back, solidified PO and people forgot about faults of his previous govt. Right before the election there was a visa scandal where PiS officials were caught on selling Polish visas for bribes and also accused of uncontrolled migration. Tusk played almost a nationalist who wants to protect borders from PiS incompetence.
He also promised people not to take migrants from EU while still reparing relation and people believed him I guess.
In Poland people have a rosy view of EU and think of it as the rich, free, capitalist west that defeated USSR and wants to share it's prosperity with Poland. Also as a rich daddy that gives us money for free.
And those who are mad about ecological stuff rather vote for Konfederacja as PiS quietly agreed for fit for 55 and everything else. The main conflict with the EU was rule of law in Poland which they indeed f*cked up by appointing judges unconstitutionally. Meanwhile they couldn't defend real Polish interests in EU, making them ineffective. They got played by the commission, agreeing to link funds to rule of law, as a result Poland got no money from Covid renewal funds while bearing the responsibility of paying this debt.
To give credit PiS for some things, I think they made some good investments, especially in energy sector. They tried to strengthen the army, even if it was very late.
They responded to Belarussian immigration crisis properly. They responded well to the outbreak of Ukrainian war. They aren't woke, funded Polish culture instead of LGBT.
They cooperated well with local partners and the US, had some vision of Polish international politics.
They didn't allow illegal migrants into Poland, though gave away too many visas without a thought.
Their faults (in my opinion) were overspending on social programs, corruption scandals, damaging rule of law, f*cking up taxation with "Polish deal", it's so messy right now. Breaking constitution and civil liberties, especially during covid. Turning state TV into Polish version of KCTV and spending billions of it. Ineffective EU policy, wolf warrior diplomacy when they screamed a lot but bent over in many crucial areas.
But 'm afraid Tusk's goverment might be even worse. It appears he won't fix what PiS broke but tear down what PiS did right. But only time will tell. Right now I support Konfederacja, they are deeply flawed but all parties are and we must choose lesser evil.

The only problem here is that communism doesn't pretend to be the people's system. It is the people's system.
Once again, stellar research way above any other foreign sources looking into Polish internal affairs. Now the biggest challenge I expect from the current government is make most of the institution demicratic and independent from any rulling goverment including themselves, perhaps there is a need for some mixed comities rulling over media and such? I don't know, the challange is pretty tremendous and I doubt they will succeed.
