Little fact about this performance which I love. This was the last song after a storing set list at Glastonbury. They followed this after Bitter Sweet. It's a massive NO-NO to play a new song / single at a festival. I still think the Verve are the only band to ever pull that off. The crowd went nuts! :)
I just love that line "walk on soles that are made in China"....given Ashcroft's spiritual nature, I immediately wondered if he intended there to be multiple layers of meaning to that line... eg. 'souls made in China' (the growing dominance of Eastern religions & culture in western society? Or perhaps another observation - that spirituality/religion is a throwaway thing for many westerners?) ... even 'souls made out of china' (how spiritually & emotionally fragile people are today?) ....just wondering.....some 'food for thought'? I'm no expert! lol I would love to hear some constructive opinions from some folks! :)
Shame they split again, no idea the reason's but they were a really special band, loved their early stuff from Storm In Heaven etc, McCabe is a real maestro on the guitar.
