The toadstool geological park is amazing, it's like Nebraska's little badlands. When you were in scottsbluff you could travel just a bit southeast to Bayard to see chimney rock, then to bridgeport to see the courthouse and jail rocks, all of which are more oregon/mormon trail stuff. If you travel east to the north-central part of the state, the Valentine area is amazing. The Niobrara river valley has lots of beautiful waterfalls

Other people - "Man, that was a scary movie"
Mike - "Yeah, It's a Bug's Life terrifies me...those grasshoppers are no joke."
    Me too, buddy; me too.

Too funny! Mike can't watch any movies that have jump scares, he is probably scarred from all the real life critters that jump out at him. To be fair though, those grasshoppers in "It's a Bug's Life" are pretty terrifying lol Thank you for watching, we really appreciate it!

Happy New Year Mike and Heather. Looking forward to continue following you guys as you “try to figure out this whole van life thing.” I have converted my 07 Town and Country van into a camper. I have visited 49 states in Redrover (my van). In April Redrover and I plan on going from Chicago to LA via Route 66. I would like you guys to share any advice you may have. I am particularly interested in where you all stayed. I would like to avoid paying for overnight stays as much as possible. Any other advice is greatly appreciated. By the way Heather I have my Route 66 Passport. Looking forward to hearing from you. Hopefully we can meet up down the road. “I see the road is bending up ahead. Wonder what’s around the bend”. Safe travels. Bill

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Wow, 49 states is really impressive! We have some catching up to do :) We are so excited for you to travel Route 66, you will have to let us know how it goes! We love hearing about other people's experiences on Route 66, that's part of the fun.
We only paid for one campsite in Kansas, the rest of the spots we found were free! We found spots using the iOverlander app. There are a lot of spots right along Route 66, especially highway truck stops as it parallels the highway the whole time. But there are boondocking places as well like at the Amboy Crater in California, we also stayed in BLM land near the Grand Canyon and in Arizona. The more West you go, the more options you have. (Cracker Barrels are always an option too) The great thing about the IOverlander app is that each spot has a review so you can get a sense of the area before you go and can plan to stop and spend the night in certain areas. We never had any issues finding spots to stay as there were plenty of options. We do regret not staying in at least one of the iconic motels along the way though, so that's something to keep in mind!
Not sure if you saw but we made a video with some advice on traveling Route 66 and general questions that we kept receiving as we were traveling. Here is the link in case you are interested in watching: ua-cam.com/video/yQK7Eh7c5P8/v-deo.html
Hope that helps! Please let us know if you have any specific questions, we would be more than happy to answer them! Thank you for watching!

The predator grasshoppers are the worst, luckily we don't have them in AZ! Bug Zappers are pretty darn entertaining! You will love CO. Travel Safe.

It's not the videoing we can't trust Mike with, it usually comes out fine WHEN HE REMEMBERS TO PRESS THE RECORD BUTTON! lol But in all seriousness, he has gotten better with remembering to press record and did a good job :) Thank you for watching, we really appreciate it!

I have TWO Water Canisters (5 gal. each) for the kitchen in my minivan.
(And one canister to collect the waste / "grey" water.)
I bought good water canisters by an online-shop for fishing gear.
And two canisters (2 gal. each) for to shower, dishes, etc.
I have a shower kit incl. a water pump, and driven by accu and USB charging.
I have a shower curtain with a hula hoop ring. Mounted with a paracord rope, if needed.
ie under a tree. = my shower cabin on tour.
I have fans (12 Volt) at the back, and by the driver seats. Also to avoid bugs.
And fans driven by accus = no wiring are very helpful by camping. Even outside by lunch.
Because bugs don´t like turbulences in the air.
Greetings from sw germany. - Now $ 7,40 per gallon diesel. (the top was $ 9,70)
But my minivan has also a great mileage.

I’m always impressed how well organised your national parks appear to be. Friendly people on the gates, visitor centres and loads of info boards dotted around. Not sure how much if anything it costs to get into these places but I’m sure it must be worth every penny (or cent for you guys). I think the passport stamp idea is a great one!
Thank you for sharing your adventures. Have a very Merry Christmas and all the very best for 2023 to both of you.

You are right, the National Parks are really great! It usually costs about $20 per park but there is an "America the Beautiful Pass" you can buy for $80 that lets you into an unlimited amount of National Parks and Monuments for 1 year. That is what we have and it has paid for itself more than once! Thank you for watching & HAPPY NEW YEAR!
