Whenever I watch Thug Notes, I feel like I should be drinking hard liquor out of a china teacup.
more like malt liquor
@@KenMabie Yeah, get yoself a 40!
Don't drink ANYTHING!! You'll end up choking after laughing so hard!
Yousa fool for that one!👊🤣
The 1920's called :P
When I read an extremely condensed version of this story back in the day, I saw how Doctor Jekyll secretly sought to delve into his baser desires, but couldn't without sacrificing his public standing. So when he made his miracle potion, he used it to take on a new identity with a new face, thus allowing Jekyll to go from his public face (Jekyll) to his alter ego (Hyde) whenever he felt the desire to do wrong. This made me think of how pleasant and nice someone can be in person, but on the internet, where they can hide their Public Faces, can be as wicked and vile to their heart's content with their Alter Egos.
Or politicians behind closed doors 🚪👹

Jekyll and Hyde is the original "no spoilers" story that has been spoiled for everyone. For the first half of the story, the big mystery is the weird relationship between Jekyll and Hyde and what it really is. It's only halfway through that we realize they are the same dude.
True it must have been a real shock for the original readers to learn that Jekyll and Hyde were one and the same.
6:49 "Are we all just one drink away from becoming monsters?"
Takes me about 4.
Doctor Thug, you're the best thing to happen to literature, in the last 100 years!
Damn straight!
"Straight stomp a bitch, simply because she bumped into him". Sounds like a pretty common event, for our times!
Yeah Becky, that's a pretty good point.

Blood is bad to bone that’s for sure!
Really Wisecrack? I just had my English Literature exam on Jekyll and Hyde a few weeks ago, why didn't you do this then?
Monkey .D. Luffy I just got done watching cinemassacre trailer for Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde the game the movie.
Thanks for throwing this up. High school English class I subbed for didn't have a clue about this classic.
Yeah same here. had my last gcse exam today
Because the book is super, super short and you should have read/analyzed it yourself, "scrub" [Sparky voice].
Monkey .D. Luffy I have mine in a few days, Wish me luck! Or not, that's cool.
Hyde yo wife,Hyde yo kids
2 years later, still the best comment 💀
There's actually a pun in the book on Hyde. "If he be Mr. Hyde", he had thought, "I shall be Mr. Seek."
"if he is Mr. hyde, then I shall be Mr. seek"
Hyde yo self
There's a somewhat tragic part of the story where Dr. Jekyll is trying to recreate the formula and realized he can't because his original ingredients were tainted. Love the story and Thug Notes.
Good to see you again with another classic of lit.

Dear Mr. Sparky Sweets Sir,
a fine gentleman of your calibre can surely shed some more light on the Eldritch, soul crushing secrets hidden in another one of those magnificent tomes by Howard Phillips Lovecraft, can you?
I myself would be delighted, as well as many fine folk who happen to traverse these corners of the internet. I am looking forward to your next contribution to UA-cam.

Alex H. You may have already found it, but, he did "Mountains of Madness." A fine analysis indeed!
Anyone from Britain here who wished that this came out before the literature gcse?
Now we need one for An Inspector Calls. Also, closed book exams can go to hell.
Resurge this book is better than the other two I’m doing. The Woman in Black is the worst thing I’ve ever read.
Resurge good luck tomorrow pal then! We will need it lol
Thanks my dude. Hopefully I can scrape a 4.
Banana Ramaz thanks, good luck to you too!

Sparky: What is my purpose?
Audience: You summarize classic literature
Sparky: Oh my God.
Audience: Yeah welcome to the club, pal.
Here's my theory: I would read "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" as a story about alcohol abuse and addiction. To support this thesis, I present the following arguments:
1. The effects of Jekyll's serum: The serum changes his personality, causing him to disregard all social norms, act like a fool and turn violent. Doesn't that sound like a drunk?
2. The aftermath of Jekyll's serum consumption: Every time Jekyll uses his serum to turn into Hyde, he shows symptoms of nausea, headache, an upset stomach, physical and mental weakness, as well as an overall discomfort. Hangover anyone?
3. The progression of the transformation: While initially, the serum is used to turn Jekyll into Hyde, the amount required gradually increases, until the serum is needed in order to turn Hyde back into Jekyll and ultimately, Hyde takes over entirely. Similarly, a person suffering from an alcohol addiction needs more and more alcohol to get drunk and at some point even needs alcohol in order to function (and thus be "normal"), until everything is lost and they're just wasted 24/7.
To conclude, the serum in "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" resembles alcohol both in immediate effects and aftermath, while Jekyll's gradual permanent transformation into Hyde represents the progression of an addiction, making "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" the story of an alcoholic.
May I suggest the fact that this is a brilliant theory? Because it is!
Good theory))
I've always thought that (since Hyde is shorter than Jekyll) while the transformation was happening Jekyll's bones had to be broken & then healed again and that's why it hurt so much 🤷♀️😅
The hangover thing definetely sounds better
Well, that seems pretty likely considering Stevenson was struggling with drug addiction when writing the story. Good eye, though.
"thank you" from every british student currently doing this book for their english GCSE
GlitchyShadow
I second this Thank You
Could you pleas do thug notes for Stephen King's The Shining?
Christo Opperman I would love it :D
thug notes is my favorite series on wisecrack
Wow, this does such a good job summarizing the moral and philosophical implications of this book. Even my College Lit class didn’t go this far & looked at me crazy when I did - I thought the whole “Taste of the Fruit” thing was obvious but I guess they didn’t lol. Either way, this is very well done! Awesome job, my guy!
His "hmmmmmsss" got me cracking up. I got to hear what this comic sounds like on the regular.
And the use of "merc" is hella funny!
Could you do thug notes for "Paradise Lost" by John Milton please?
Roling K yes please. Do a 12 part series for each book.
So, just read the whole thing, line by line, on camera?
Sunshine_Shooter yeah cuz I meant do 12 parts for each of the 12 books for a total of 144 episodes of Thug Notes
This is my favorite book honestly and I love Thug Notes' rendition of it !
By God and all that is holy, I swear, this channel is amazing and Thug Notes should be shown on regular TV. Such an easily understood and thorough explanation that begs the watcher to read the book... I was happy to have known this book from references, but after watching this, I'm wanting to actually read the damn book. Thank you!
Gutock kek, it's better for 6 minutes not 15-60 minutes
THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN REALLY USEFUL FOR GCSE ENGLISH LIT PAPER, WEEKS AGO!
Feelsgoodman.
Laurence O'Brien (MM12) just copy and paste a bunch of texts and cliffnote books and rip this video off 💪
Thank the Lord I found this a week before my Lit paper :p
Laurence O'Brien (MM12) I’m doing mine in 2020
"He murked that ol' geezer." LOL
don't know if this was done on purpose, but if you go to 5:15, you can see that the split picture has more of Jekyll than hyde, this can show that Jekyll is more of a better person than a bad one, which adds to the surprise when we find out that Jekyll is hyde.
Sees notification: WOOHOO!
Good video. Read the books three times, and you mentioned points that still haven't occurred to me.
I wrote a small piece interpreting this text as one suffering drug addiction. Stevenson himself wrote it in like a weekend or something because he was addicted to cocaine (used as a med at the time legally). Without mentioning that, the text references that need for the serum, and also as you mentioned denial. He "kicked the habit" for a little while but then again he turns back into Hyde. I mean to me it is an easy way of looking at this short story, and also love your interpretation!
it would have been nice if this was uploaded before the gcse's
Thank you, Doctor Sweets! That was a legitimate take on the madness which is the tale of "Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde".
could you please do Hunchback of Notre Dame by Victor Hugo
2:52 😂😂 pls the way you said 'maybe he's been 💀 is absolutely sending me rn.
Thanks for this. After my english exam
We need this show back
We need you back Thug.
This was one of my favorite books as a kid. Hyde's increasingly evil deeds while Utterson "harrumphs" his way through the whole book. Real British and real dark. Like Jack the Ripper. I even got to listen to an old radio show about it that Hitchcock hosted. Hitchcock and Hyde were made for each other, and I really do wish he adapted it.
I love how this guy takes classic books and makes its simple
Please do Neil Gaiman's Coraline next
I find it hard to accept that the novella is saying that we should accept both our bad and good sides. Rather, it seems to be warning that when you try to indulge your bad side it becomes stronger until it threatens to take you over completely. A little similar to the story about there being two wolves inside us that are fighting, and the one that wins is the one you feed.
One of your best reviews yet! Keep 'em coming!
Hey, how 'bout Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux?
Is it wrong to find this comic attractive....like, a smart dude that is also streetwise and would merc a dude to save his woman, if need be?
Yeah, I know I'm trippin'. But homeboy got me straight twisted up in my feels.
Great video dude! I have two suggestions for some future installments of Thug Notes, those being 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (Jules Verne) or Phantom of the Opera (Gaston LeRoux). Keep on making quality work playa!
Perhaps we have two natures, no single one enjoyed
Primitive, amoral, and repressed but not destroyed
Forced into civility by anyone who can
Hold back the darkness in the soul
The urge... within a man

Awesome analysis of Dr. Jeckel & Mr. Hyde. Thug Notes really rocks. Keep up the good work.
What sucks about this story is that it's so iconic you know about the twist ending before you even know what the story is
What's funny about the comment section is that everyone is talking 'bout that thug notes be a real one droppin' that high class literacy like snoop dog up in the club
I’m actually reading the book and this helps so much thanks bro, I really appreciate it
I really identify with this story. I have struggles with my own Mr. Hyde, and it's always causing me problems. Thanks for breaking this story down, I've always wanted to read it.
This needs to be way more popular
The Lolita and Catcher in the Rye are phenomenal!
Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie!!!
About time another Thug Notes came out. Please make these more often!
May you please summarize "Flowers for Algernon?" It is one of my fav books, and it'll be so dope if you can make a thug notes on it.
You should do "The island of doctor Moreau" by HG Wells.
Killed it with that end resulting note to keep oneself balanced. Great timing that out in the video and flowing it in.
Do The Gunslinger by Stephen King!
Thank you!
In one and a half week I'm going to have my verbal English exam and on my literature list I have this book, having this video just before is really encouraging!
never clicked a video faster
I'm so grateful I wasn't spoiled this great novella!
just discovered this channel and i have never been happier, perfect music to go with perfect reviews keep it real my brotha.
Do The extraordinary Adventures of Arsene Lupin please?!?!?
Loved the 'For your eyes only' reference :)
do the lusiads next
sweet thug notes now has seasons and episodes gonna watch it all from beginning to end
IF YOU COULD HAVE DONE THIS 2 MONTHS EARLIER I COULDVE USED IT AS HELP FOR MY ENGLISH GCSE EXAM
Finally in words i can understan
A Doll's House - Henrik Ibsen :)
YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONG I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS. BLESS YOU.
*"Eh... don't trip on that, baby."* Best answer for people being unnecessarily inquisitive. Thanks.
I love these videos! Please do one on Where the Red Fern Grows!!
Watership Down!!!!
Good to have you back.
You are too funny for words! I love that you're marketing to those who, otherwise, would never read a book - even if you paid them. It's encouraging and, I'm sure, has changed many minds.🤗👏🏾👏🏾
Has been waiting for this one for a long long time
I wish we had good examples of explanation with stories and English history like this!!! I learn so much from these, more than I learned in school! And it’s crazy because I was always an A-B+ student but I feel like I didn’t learn enough interesting things like this!
I would love to see Taming of the Shrew by Shakespeare.
Andrew Phillips I believe he did that already. check the playlist.
Atysha Smith I think you are right, thank you.
finally I've been waiting for this analysis foeeva
make a thug notes on the dutch story of Reynard the fox.
I had a metalwork teacher who was named Mr Hyde. He took great pleasure in reminding everyone that in the Jekyll & Hyde story Mr Hyde was the nasty one. He was a mean bastard too. He used to beat us with a particularly evil thing he had made himself. I doubt many of you will know what brazing rods are but imagine a piece of stiff wire about a quater as thick as a pencil and about 3 feet long (that's about a meter for all you young uns) he had about 30 or so of them that he had put tape around one end just enough to make a good handle so when he hit you with them it was like being whipped with 30 odd things at the same time. It really hurt and would leave a good welt and the bruise would last over a week. That would never be allowed these days. There would probably be some time in jail for anyone doing that sort of thing now. Kids eh? They don't know how easy they got it today. Most of the teachers in my school were right sadistic f**kers. err I mean people, although I think the first term is more appropriate.
They dont make enough of these.
PHILOSOPHY OF THE FILTHY FRANK SHOW!!!!
Chaz Giustina Jeez, okay man I get what you're trying to say. I just wanted to listen to Wisecrack's take on it. I'm aware that George Miller a.k.a has previously talked about his show earlier on podcasts and all but I still wanted to know what Jared and the rest of the team think about why literally millions of people find what he does so amusing. A lot of movies Wisecrack does videos on have already been analysed by plenty of film enthusiasts, but I still watch the videos because of my love for the channel. If that's not how you roll, it's fine man.
Angsty teens trying to be edgy. There
Samveg, you invest too much into Filthy Frank, it's a crude show with loose storylines. If you think it's worse analyzing over an actual film, then you shouldn't be watching Wisecrack.
Chaz Giustina I still choose to differ. I think there is more to the show than just profanity and chin-chin. You don't. It's fine. I might be a wannabe edgy teenager after all.
Okay, you literally just said you choose to be ignorant. Stop justifying yourself, and then backtracking. But what should I expect from a guy that wants a philosophical discussion about a guy who eats vomit and hair cakes on video.
Very helpful for my GCSE tomorrow! I didn't know a thing before
i´m so glad this show is back
Wish you had done this early. Like when I had to write an essay about this last semester.
i got gcses in exactly 9 hrs and I'm watching this fool definitely failing
I LOVE THESE. When is the next one coming out.
Do Heart of Darkness.
molten terror he did
I found this in my recommendations.....I don't know if I should be confused by his slang or feel educated because he summarized a nice piece of literature (Which I read. I personally didn't like how the story was told but the idea was brilliant) and pointed out the morals and what it could mean......I need to watch more of these.
Happened on this by accident. So glad I did. This is awesome. I love a good book and to see my people telling me about them is wonderful.
This makes me wanna drink 40's with my pinky in the air
Damn the visuals are getting classier and classier
honestly been waiting years for this
This series is lit af. Fantastic
it might be worth mentioning Carl Jung's theory of the shadow-self and how one cannot be a fully complete person without embracing the darkness inside of oneself and making proper use of it.
Would you please do a break down of Heinlein's "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress"?
I'd like to understand a little more about the book if you have the time.
Very new listener, Thanks much,
Greg
Thank God this vid will help me for this final year
Gulliver's Travels, or the really long title, "Travels into Several Remote Nations of the World. In Four Parts. By Lemuel Gulliver, First a Surgeon, and then a Captain of Several Ships," by Jonathan Swift.
I love what you have to say about books and how you articulate messages. I'd call the style "nuanced thug", personally. A request I
have for you to review, if that's the right word, is Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk, I'd be very interested in your way of telling the story, and your thoughts on it, and I can guess that there would be a lot of mentions of crazy bitches and icing
It'll be so awesome to still be getting thug note videos in 30 years.
please, please, PLEASE do one for Robert Louis Stevenson's classic Treasure Island. I teach this to 9th graders and they'd LOVE it and it would really help them. It's also one of my favorite novels. PLEAAAASSSEEEE!
