Dallas has a very rare genetic mutation that allows his lungs and larynx to produce honey butter sprinkled with gold dust. Unreal.

The original version of this song is one Layne’s best choruses ever. So powerful and haunting. Dallas Green pushes it to a place I never thought possible. Masterful performance.

Been listening to C&C since the early 2000s and I love DG but that's a bit of a stretch. Just in Rock music alone there's Chris Cornell, Layne Staley, Freddie Mercury, Stevie Nicks, Maynard James Keenan, Mike Patton. If you wanna get into other genres there's artists like Nina Simone, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Andrea Bocelli, Billie Holiday, Sam Cooke, Ella Fitzgerald, Joni Mitchell, Marvin Gaye...

@@SID6.7 Its not a stretch at all, I'm well aware of some of the best vocalists of all time. Dallas Green could be easily placed in the top 3 of all time best singers to ever exist. His voice is phenomenally unreal.

His reaction, from 02:37 until at 02:50, was exactly my reaction as the song progressed. I did not know this guy was, and was terrified when I saw him standing there with only an acoustic guitar. I thought it was going to be a mess... Not sure whether I had ever been more on the wrong about something...

I think the reason why Dallas's cover is so good is because, as you said, he doesn't just sing the lyrics. He feels them. And that emotion creates a real resonance in his performance. For those of us of a certain age, AIC songs bring back strong memories and we react emotionally not just from the music, but the memories of those times and also the loss of those voices that sang those songs. I always loved this song, but hearing Dallas sing it the way he did also made me tear up. It just proves how good of an artist he is.

Being a huge Layne Staley/AIC fan, it is so hard to listen to those who cover their music b/c, even the best of artists, just miss the mark. However, Dallas blew me away with his interpretation of the song. He took this gritty, raw, slightly fearful/sad song and made it equally haunting yet so beautifully smooth - and you could still feel the angst that was Layne. Well done! And yes I shed a few tears as well!!!

I named my son Layne because of my love for the man.
Layne was telling us flatout in his music that he was on a path to death , you can almost hear the accepted reality of his own demise on the Dirt album, he knows the addiction has him and most likely will destroy him.
He was a one in a billion talent and missed sorely by us hardcore Fans.

Man I'm so glad I found you a few years back. You truly understand music and it's so refreshing. Especially when its artists I've followed for a long time.

Saw him live a few years ago at The Playhouse, just him and a stool and a microphone and a guitar. It was stunning.

Alexisonfire was predominantly from my home town, St. Catharines...Dallas I believe is from Toronto. He came to town and was the first act to play our new performing arts center...quick Wiki check, he is from St. Catharines!

So good. We saw City and Colour at the State Theater in Ithaca NY a few years back and it was otherworldly. The sound was so lush it felt like you could swim through it.

Note how Dallas gets his face out of the way to allow that tone to come through. Teeth exposed, jaw open, mixed voice-chest and head, holding back a little air to add compression.
    So gooood.

I have seen a lot of bands and singers perform. The strength of his voice in person is probably a top 3. As good as you think the recording is, I guarantee the room would still blow you away.

AIC is one of those bands that will live in my heart forever. I think they are so underrated and hearing their songs in context like this just proves how brilliant they were as songwriters and what kind of an emotional punch all of their music brought. THANKS Michael. This one crushed me!
